Bonjour, Votre chaîne fait partie de celles que je préfère regarder sur KZfaq, vous faites de la mécanique, je dirais « artisanale, à l’ancienne » quoi... Et en plus avec les moyens du bord, je veux dire que vous n’avez pas de pont ou autre, juste de l’outillage que beaucoup de gens pourraient avoir... Et c’est vraiment passionnant. Le genre de mécanique qu’on voit plus nulle part, ou alors très rarement... On change des pièces voire même des moteurs carrément, mais on ne répare plus et n’optimise plus rien... J’en apprends beaucoup et suis attentivement chaque vidéo de mécanique que vous mettez en ligne. Et pourtant j’ai vu dans les commentaires que ce n’était pas votre métier... Merci pour le boulot que vous faites avec votre chaîne😉

No wonder it was running rough, the two way leak must of been bad :-( When you placed the precision flat bar across the surface and showed the gaps, i thought you may have to get it skimmed by a local machine shop. Thankfully it is a crude engine and a fresh head gasket would fix it. Grinding the valves and replacing the stem seals should improve it as well :-D. Yes the oil delivery was very crappy, such a rough design, ford want a kick up the ass lol. And the press comes in usefull again ha ha, so handy :-D I hope there is nothing else wrong with the engine, this car is a nuisance. Thankyou for your clever repair videos :-D I hope you are well and the weather has been loverly where you are, i'm not used to sunshine and warmth lol.

There was about 5 or 6 hundred or millimeter of gap under the precision bar i think,so it's not bad. 10/100 mm didn't slip under and 5/100 didn't rub while slipping under. Yes,sure,the oil delivery was awful,i don't know why they don't fix it after all those years,it's not like they don't see their engines running. I'm ok,nobody sick in my family,i hope it's ok for you too. We will be allowed to go outside freely the 11 ,so monday ,no more 135 euros of fine if you go buy non essential goods anymore lol. This car is a pain,but i think i searched it a bit aiming that low lol

Very good video and cleanup of the head! The idea of using the screwdriver is a very good one, never thought about that! But let me point out one thing that almost threw me out the chair as I yelled "NOOOO, PLEASE STOP" as I was seeing the grinder... At 20:32, that grinding of the oil channel to the rockers was a BIG mistake that will prematurely wear the engine. There is a reason for the oiling holes to the rocker shaft to be small and not in alignment, that is to intentionally restrict oil passing to the rocker shaft and increase the oil pressure for lubeing the crankshaft and pistons. Think about this, the oil pump creates pressure because of the restrictions the oil finds when lubeing the various bearings and journals. That is why a worn engine has a low oil pressure: the clearances went up so bad that the oil flows more freely around and the pressure drops. What you ended up doing is increasing oil flow to a part that doesn't require much lubrication at all and with that lowering the overall oil pressure around the engine. I acknowledge that the idea of increasing the oil flow might seem a good idea but do not try to outsmart the engineers who designed the engine. Those holes are offset intentionally, by design!

Hi,thanks The oil passages are not offset by design. They are "poorly" aligned and machined,with a lot of tolerances. The diameter of the two meeting bores are way bigger than the oil passages feeding them : it's simply to be sure both bores will face somewhat once the block and head are assembled together. It's a manufacturing trick to eliminate problems in case of machining tolerances drift,or simply casting imprecision. All those engines have poorly lubed rocker arms,it's clearly visible at the end when i compare before and after,and are very noisy from factory. Not this one anymore,even cold. The oil pressure will maybe drop a bit at hot idle (wich i doubt) ,but certainly not off idle where the engine is always in excess of oil flow (and pressure) It's not trying to outsmart some 50's design,it's just solving old basic flaws and poor design. You clearly see the rockers arms are starving for oil while at 2000 rpm while stock : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9Sera-TsOCWoIU.html

The coolant bottle was a like boiling kettle. It's a good job you're rebuilding the head as it's in a right state. What did you put in the water to clean the valve springs and collets?

@@honestguy7764 Plastic pellets you feed machines to produce objects with,and some domestic degreaser. Friction caused by movement did the job. You can use metal polish liquid and some wheat to polish them then.

Peace be upon you, Professor. I have a question on the car. My generation Ck. I have bubbles appearing with it in the radiator. I replaced the cassette 3 times. The machine is clear and smooth. Strong pulling from the cooling off. Returns the text. Normal. Professor . The driver did not switch.

Make a video when you adjust the pushrods please! I have a Ford Ka and I want to adjust them, but i can't loose the screws from them, they are a little stuck i guess.

They are "interference thread" screws. They seem stuck because they really need a lot of force to move and not get misadjusted by the vibrations. But you need only a tiny fraction of a turn to adjust rocker clearance.

Par contre quelque chose que je ne comprends pas : Pourquoi poncer l'interieur des soupapes avec un disque a tronçonner de meuleuse ? Ca ne les abimes pas trop ?! La portée n'est-elle pas sensée être super précise ?

Salut, le disque ne touche pas la portée,c'est uniquement pour polir la "tulipe" de la soupape entre la queue et la portée. ça évite que la suie n'y colle,ainsi que les cochonneries,vapeur d'huile et autres.

There is a bunch of temp fluctuation on engines having the thermostat in the head,so a gauge with that much amplitude is normal. Often there are electric or electronic devices to temper the needle movement to don't make the driver questioning all this amplitude.

@@michaelovitch thanks for the explanation, I suppose that needle si stem is not well made, some kind of people don't understand the amplitude, I've been driving an old Peugeot with bad head gasket cause the indicator doesn't explain really nothing, in 110 degrees is like normal, and many mechanics said to me that s normal cause is in the range, it's a bad engineering issue I think, are you thinking about installing a digital temperature indicator??PD:your job is really really nice thanks for your video, take care in this special situation, gob bless

@@michaelovitch اهلا بك لدي تأخير في اشتغال مروحة التبريد لقد غيرت حساس المروحه ولافائده مؤشر الحراره ثابت عن النصف لاكن درجة حرارة المحرك عاليه ويوجد انتفاخ في خراطيم المياه قمت بإلغاء التدفئه وقمت ايضا بإلغاء الثرموستات ولافائده عند الكشف علي الزيت كل ثلاث ايام اجد نقوص في الزيت بارك الله فيك

@@user-mn7cr6ru5c If you have bubbles in the coolant when you run the engine with the thermostat ,that mean that exhaust gases pass through the head gasket. If you have an oil leak,you need to know if it's leaking through the head gasket,or just from an other gasket. You will can see that if the engine is covered in oil on the outside. sometimes the head gasket is damaged,or the engine head bolts are loose or stretched because the engine overheated and oil is leaking ,because the head gasket itself is not clamped enough anymore

@@endriilnica3356 If you have bubbles continuously coming from the coolant reservoir wile the engine is running,that mean that the head gasket or the EGR cooler is damaged. If you have EGR,and it's cooled down with coolant,you should start to check that.

Salut Louis, Merci : ) Pas besoin d'outils spécifiques à part une clé dynamométrique pour serrer les vis de la culasse,tu peux en acheter une dans un centre auto. Le mieux est d'avoir la revue technique,mais les valeurs et l'ordre de serrage sont indiqués sur un papier fourni avec le joint neuf. Des vis neuves,un joint neuf sont nécessaires. Il faut vérifier la planéité de la culasse,et pour ça une règle de précision est utile.

J'ai une voiture de travail avec un tel moteur (1299ccm Endura-E, millésime 1997). D'après les factures, 10w40 a toujours été chargé pendant 5 ans. Il ne mange pas d'huile, je recharge en général 1 litre entre les changements annuels (environ 6-6.500 km/an).Par contre, la machine manuelle : 5w30 / 5w40. Rester sur 10w40 ou changer ?

Depends of your weather : 10w40 is ok if it's quite cold in winter ,and quite hot in summer. If i understand you are in Hungary,so it's not very very cold. You could use a thicker oil,like a 15W40 or 15W50 if you want : the engine would be more quiet. Thinner oils like a 5w30 will be burnt by the engine quicker,so you will have to add oil more often,but will also help to reduce fuel consumption a little bit. I suggest you to keep a 10w40 or 15w40 : it's a "old" engine technology,with bigger machining tolerances,and thicker oil is more adapted to it. Each oil viscosity has positive and negative sides. I would keep 10w40 or 15W40. Thin oil evaporate faster ,burn faster,because circulate more easily between the piston rings, and reduce oil pressure between engine parts,flowing more easily. The oil in a small engine without a turbo very rarely heat up to operating temperature of 80°c or 90°c,so a 5w40 will always be way thinner way longer than a 10w40 or 15w40 for the same operating conditions. You need to use the car at least half an hour on moderate or high load to have a real warm engin oil. www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/30197/choose-engine-oil

Merci, Quelques minutes,en prenant son temps. Tout dépend de l'état de surfaces du siège et de la soupape,plus elles sont mauvaises plus c'est long. Quelques minutes grand maximum,à la main,ici c'était assez court.

I don't really know,,overheated maybe,or just a a gasket failure. There are no coolant leaks ,and the fan is working fine.

I just removed the sharp edge. It's not rounded like a big radius ,so the turbulence will be produced still. The car is pulling pretty well,i did not mess up the head : )

ATTENTION ATTENTION On ne desserre JAMAIS une culasse avant que le moteur soit totalement froid, comptez au minimum 10 heures ou plus après la dernière mise en route du moteur si il avait eu le temps de chauffer. CAUTION CAUTION A cylinder head is NEVER loosened before the engine is completely cold, count at least 10 hours or more after the last start-up of the engine if it had had time to warm up

Pourquoi ? C'est pas le cas ici. Quand bien même ce serait fait moteur chaud,les pièces sont toutes dilatées,de la même manière de façon homogène. C'est exactement pareil que si tout est à température ambiante. Seul le mélange culasse alu,bloc fonte peut poser problème,les deux métaux se dilatent différemment,et ce serait plus un problème de vis de serrage que des pièces elles mêmes. Il faut éviter de desserrer partiellement, et laisser refroidir ça ok,c'est dangereux ,ça cause de la déformation du fait du refroidissement sans tension sur une partie de la culasse. Mais si tout est desserré à chaud,ça se déformera pas plus que si tout est desserré à froid.

il y a aussi des artistes parmi les mécano du dimanche. Mais pourquoi tant de boulot pour remettre en vie une voiture qui ne pourra plus circuler avec les nouvelles normes de pollution ?

Quelles normes exactement ? les nouvelles normes ne concernent que les véhicules neufs, depuis toujours,et pas à un véhicule déjà immatriculé avant la mise en application de la norme.

@@michaelovitch Au fur et à mesure, les grandes agglomérations sont incitées par la loi à interdire les véhicules anciens classés en crit'air 4-5 (1999). A Lille, après les avoir interdit lors des pics de pollution, ils sont interdits de circulation totale depuis le 1 janvier 21 sous peine d'amende. Je présume que cette norme sera progressivement étendue dans toute la France. Les détecteurs de radar automatiques vont même pouvoir flasher les véhicules hors normes à partir de 2022. C'est encore pour inciter les gens à changer de voiture, je ne suis pas convaincu que les nouveaux modèles soient moins polluants. Je qualifie cela d'écologie punitive.

Dans peu de tps les véhicules Critair 3 seront également interdits. Paris est en pointe sur ce sujet. J'aime vos vidéos puisque je retrouve le système D Français en vigueur dans les années 80 : avec pas grand chose et beaucoup d'astuces on arrive à mener à terme son projet. Je croyais que c'était un savoir perdu. Bien à vous.

@@stephmomo9132 Un nouveau modèle ne pollue pas moins qu'un vieux véhicule de 20 ans d'age,mais pollue plus. Il a fallu énormément de ressources matérielles et énergétiques pour le fabriquer,et les industries qui utilisent ces ressources ne sont pas soumises au respect des mêmes normes aussi contraignantes. La simple dépense énergétique pour remplacer un véhicule qui roule déjà par un autre est injustifiée et stupide en soi. Si c'était un simple point de vue de pollution,une re motorisation suffirait : le constructeur peut créer des kits pour tous ses véhicules passés. En effet ,les mesures prises ne servent qu'à satisfaire les industries. Les voitures électriques sont le futur exemple : l'électricité est principalement produite à l'aide de pétrole ,gaz et charbon. Si tout le monde s'équipe d'une voiture électrique,il faudra refaire le réseau complet de transport d'énergie de quasi tous les pays concernés,et envahir quelques pays détenteurs de gaz,pétrole ou combustibles nucléaires. Même principe pour les métaux rares qui constituent les batteries,principalement trouvés en Afrique,et Amérique du Sud. Sachant aussi que ces véhicules sont extrêmement lourds,leur rendement est mauvais. etc...etc...

Cleaning the head. The brush is made of steel,the head is made of cast iron,wich is way more hard,so it can't be damaged by the brush,unless maybe if you stay on one spot for half an hour.
