I'm currently renting this car for a few days and agree with all the points, especially the low-visibility criticism *and* the niceness of that sliding compartment. And the engine noise really is quiet, it seems like the speed-adjusted audio volume (which I was initially surprised by) actually overcompensates a decent amount when the car is in motion.

Very nice! Just bought one...only 35,000 miles on it. Very good condition. I fell in love! I never really noticed the limited visual. But I did notice the limited head room. Love driving long trips. Or just scooting around town. Great gas mileage as well.

I own a 2015 Chrysler 200 and I must say I agree with you about the visibility problem. I'm only 6' tall, and when turning to the left, when checking the right I have to duck and jive like Muhammad Ali. I love most things about this car, but will admit that it doesn't seem like it wants to drive all the time. Some days I fire it up and it's all "meh". Some days I fire it up and it's all "Let's GO!". Very temperamental vehicle. Still love it though. I mean, I upgraded from a 2006 Chevy Cobalt.

I've been subscribed for months but I've been subscribed to SaabKyle for much much longer and let me say it, I can easily watch a 10 minute video review of a car I'm not even intersted in from you while lately I can't even make it past the first three minutes of SaabKyle04's reviews no matter how exciting the car is for me (and they just keep getting longer), so... Congratulations, your videos are awesome and deserve way more attention.

I agree with you. Saabkyle04 has a great channel, but his videos have gotten WAY too long and he only reviews really expensive cars anymore. I liked his channel better when he did all sorts of cars, not just exotics, sports cars, and luxury cars and his videos weren't longer than 10 minutes.

I own this yr & model Chrysler. As you mentioned, I was skeptical about purchasing my vehicle just because of the poor visibility due to the wide pillars & narrow windshield. Already had an incident where late at night while on the freeway I couldn't tell a car came up along my passenger side & I went to change lanes & somehow my front bumper slightly hit his rear bumper. Besides this issue & the fact that it's slow to accelerate I think they made up for it in the comfort & many extra's this car has to offer at a reasonable price!

An auto does not have to “drop 5 gears” to overtake. It is not a sequential gearbox. It will downshift, for example, from 9th straight to 3rd.

It had 3 recalls. 1 to close a potential security hole when using Mobile Wifi, 1 for a seat belt sensor that doesn't affect most vehicles, and 1 to correct the transmissions tuning. 0 were for safety. Still its a Chrysler. If you get this vehicle, expect to spend another $4k on the long term warranty if you don't plan to modify the vehicle. Will probably be needed.

Its nice to see Chrysler finally taking things seriously but it seems they have some catching up to do. That 9-speed auto seems to be a last-minute response to DCT and CVT. Jason - one thing you forgot to mention is how the rear view mirror itself is a HUGE blind spot. Maybe it's just where your camera was mounted, but a massive percent of your view was blocked off by that mirror. I've had the same problem in my old car, which also didn't have much head-room.

37.6 MPG is way more than 'pretty good'.
@Leo9ine
@Leo9ine 8 жыл бұрын
When every other car in this segment is pulling 40 mpg 37 mpg is mediocre.
@wiibaron
@wiibaron 8 жыл бұрын
Leo There are no cars in the mid size that get real world average 37 1/2 MPG. Not including hybrids, which MIGHT pass that. Most compacts don't get even rated at 38 comb, let alone real world. But even IF cars got 40mpg, 2.4 less is certainly not mediocre.
@Leo9ine
@Leo9ine 8 жыл бұрын
+wiibaron +wiibaron This doesn't get 37 real world average mpg. It gets 37 EPA highway mpg. By comparison, the Corolla (same class) gets 42 EPA highway MPG. 5 mpg less than everyone else is at best acceptable, I wouldn't call it "pretty good".
@wiibaron
@wiibaron 8 жыл бұрын
Leo Didn't watch the video, eh? This guy got 37.6 mpg in this car. He did 0-60, and ran around in it. He got better than the HWY number. And a Corolla is not a mid size but a compact like a Dart, which has a 41 HWY MPG figure. A 200 is the same as a Camry: 23k-35k,100+ cuft of space.and 25/35 mpg. everyone knows a mid size from a compact although that Dart is kindof big for its class.
@Ryan57Garr
@Ryan57Garr 7 жыл бұрын
+wiibaron I don't know how he gets those figures, but 37 is super high. I average 35-36 on a long road trip, but I live in Texas. He's in Colorado with a much higher elevation. That would account for the better than average mpg. On a trip to Utah, I averaged about 5 mpg better than Texas

Any chance you've got enough rep to wrangle a long term review car sometime soon? For brands with shaky reliability ratings (e.g. Chrysler), initial quality doesn't tell the whole story, and it'd be interesting to see what cropped up. That said, I'd feel bad if this suggestion led to you daily driving a Chrysler 200 while your STi sat in the garage.

Dunno, my problem is that if I were to buy something like this it would be a daily driver...but if the visibility sucks then there's ZERO point in it being a daily driver for me. So I'd take away some heavy points from it due to the low visibility, to the point where I wouldn't consider it.

Actually a nice car. Just be careful, if you find drops of oil on the garage floor or driveway, replace the oil cooler immediately, preferably with an all aluminum cooler, not the plastic cooler the factory installs on all Pentastar v6's. Due to heat from the engine the cooler is subject to developing leaks over time and eventual catastrophic failure. It happened to me, still like the car though.

I like this car, but I don't get why FCA builds both the 200 and the Dodge Dart...
@vossler360
@vossler360 9 жыл бұрын
Ivan Matz I think that the Chrysler is meant to be a more upmarket compact size offering, with better interior appointments and more exterior style. The 300 hp V6 is also exclusive the 200. Both the Dart and the 200 are pretty good as far as compact cars go.
@vossler360

***** Good point, the 200 also has a longer wheelbase, which gives it a larger interior.

Well, while I get your points, I believe one of the two will be discountinued, just like the Dodge Durango will be because of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
@vossler360
@vossler360 9 жыл бұрын
Ivan Matz I'm sure that it's possible for one of the two to be phased out, but I think the sales numbers will ultimately determine this. As things look now, both the Dart and the 200 have enough distinct qualities to justify their existence. It would probably be easier for FCA to discontinue the 200 as opposed to the Dart, as the Dart is in a pretty important market segment.
@KevinSmith-qi5yn
@KevinSmith-qi5yn 8 жыл бұрын
The Dart is a compact, the 200 is a mid-size. Both these vehicles are being discontinued and Chrysler leaving this market after they lived through their product life cycle. FCA already has a number of products that compete in similar areas which sell better.

A lot of the design was lifted. Overall exterior is a Ford Fusion. Has some hints of Audi. Proportions are more Chrysler. Interior has some features lifted from Jaguar.

How can u get 37.6 mpg on this car? What was your speed when u drove on the high way? That is unbelievable. My 2014 accord 2.4 with cvt can get 41mpg if I drive 50/55mph, but if i drive 65/70mph the mpg gonna drop to 35. I really cant believe this 200 is better than accord on mpg.

+Y Brent Stayed within 5 mph of the speed limit. Speed ranged from 55 to 65 on the highway. You can see the full course in my Chevy Volt review.

Chrysler's tend to be exact on their MPG ratings from the EPA unlike some Japanese brands. The 8th and 9th gear seem to be matched for 65 and 70 mph on near level highway. You won't have some of the natural drawbacks of a belt driven transmission, so it should get better mpg at the speeds its gears are specifically matched to. Throughout the entire speed range a lighter vehicle with CVT should get better MPG. I can get 38+ mpg highway in this when driving a constant 70 mph in San Diego which can be a bit hilly. When going over this speed the mpg drops off to around 32-34 mpg, and in the city it drops off a lot to its EPA ratings.

Brent, I have the V6 3.6 l version of this. The transmission has nine gears with final ratio being 0.48. That means when in 9th gear the wheels turn little more than two rotations for every one rotation of the engine. This is an extremely low transmission ratio. I can get easily about 37mpg average on a 300 mile road-trip driving 80mph. However, because lower gears have very high ratio (main drive is 5th gear), it takes a lot of gas to get going from a dead stop. So, while the car can have about 32-37mpg cruising at 35mph on flat ground, the average city drive mileage, with heavy traffic and a lot of "stop and go" is about 22 mpg. Overall, per tank I get about 28 mpg depending on how much highway driving I do. Also, it has been a hot summer so all these numbers are with AC running. I would not be surprised if you could add another 10%-15% by turning AC off. The reason why the gas mileage on this car is so great (keep in mind I am talking about a 3.6l V6) is for two reasons and they both pertain to the transmission: 1) The transmission has a 9 gears and 4 of them are overdrive (ratio smaller than 1). This means that the engine can be kept at the lower number of rotations during cruise, where you get the best economy. 2) All of the clutches in the transmission (If i remember right there are 6 of them) are slipless clutches. This means that at no point during the life of this car's transmission are you going to lose power because a clutch in the transmission is slipping. Just about all work potential (Horsepower, or Wattage) going in one end comes out the other and only things that change significantly are speed (rpm) and strength (torque). Though, the reason 2 is also why the shifts are not "creamy smooth" sometimes. There are other reasons for good gas mileage as well. Like how the engine has variable valve timing... The engine is very efficient. But, I highly doubt I would be getting more than 30-32mpg on a highway trip if it had a standard 6 speed automatic or even a 6 speed manual.

I drive between 1-10 different Chrysler 200's per day. I hate them. I mostly move them around in a parking lot or on the highway. where all of the terrible things shine. The throttle is wonky as shit. You can't move slowly, like if you're navigating a parking lot, or slow moving traffic. Its jolty, and jabs around. The blind spots are bad, I have to back them up very often and you just can't see out of the back. The reverse camera is there, but Its in a weird spot and you get a weird angle on the things behind you. Really exciting that you've reviewed a car that I drive very often. Disappointed that its a 200 :)

Do not buy. Worst decision I’ve ever made. 1- oil consumption 2- huge depreciation 3- on four cylinder lack of torque 4- the vehicle is discontinued. The quality of materials inside is not bad. But it’s not worth it unless you buy it well taken care of for really good $$$$$$.
