In depth review of the 2016 Triumph Tiger 800 XRx. All you wanted to know and more. Smooth, Turns on a Dime, Plenty of Power, Nice Motorcycle.
Sept. 27, 2016: Ok, so Now I have 1245 miles on the Tiger. I was out in the wheat fields of eastern Washington the other day and rode 86 miles of gravel roads. Most eastern Washington Wheat field gravel roads are pretty nice roads, but still they are gravel. I found myself cruising on them anywhere from 15 mph to 65 mph. I haven't had that much sustained fun in years. I used the off road traction control and was conservative in my riding but still was able to gas and go on the straight stretches. It was a blast. I enjoyed the 19 inch and much wider front tire (compared to the xc models) on the gravel. I had to ride 38 miles of freeway/back paved roads to get to my off road beginning destination. On the paved roads I used the cruise control which was really nice. I set it at 72 mph and the bike was totally smooth. I really enjoyed the pavement riding also. The ergonomics of the bike is a perfect fit for me. This is what I have wanted for years. A motorcycle you can ride comfortably at freeway speeds and go off road in a second. The 3 cylinder engine is really smooth and the exhaust is extremely quite, which I really like.

Karsten Lund You are going to really enjoy it. It is such a fun bike. Unlike any motorcycle I have ever ridden. Pushing it around in the garage it seems really tall compared to my other bikes. But once you get on it you forget about about everything and you find yourself smiling.

Much wider front tire? 100mm - 90mm = 1 cm difference only IMO: tubless tires are a bigger thing

Accessory parts are readily available almost anywhere, the price doesn't seem to fluctuate. It seems to be the same as for spare parts. I haven't had any issues at all that needed anything. I have a little over 2500 miles on it and it's going strong

Thank you for such a comprehensive overview. I'm considering one now. I've always ridden Harleys but now also want a bike that I can take onto gravel and dirt roads when the occasion presents itself. Was thinking about the BMW 800GS also but the Tiger seems to edge it out when it comes to on road comfort. Thanks again

Thank you for such an excellent review. Top marks Sir! You clearly LOVE this bike. I am 5' 6" with a 29"inseam and am keen (dare I say excited) to try out the XRX LRH (Low Ride Height) that has a seat height of 760 mm or 780 mm depending on the seat position. I am hoping this will be the last bike I ever need to buy. Thanks again for taking the time to put together such an informative and helpful review - made me feel like I own one already!

I'm actually about to buy a 2016 800 XR this Saturday. I'm doing my research on it and I'm really psyched for the bike. I just want to get it and ride already! Have you had any trouble finding parts or anything else for it? Also, just saying, put a photosensitivity warning in your video description, that freaked me the hell out. I thought something went wrong with my computer. Back to the bike, however, I have to ask you. Have you ever felt like chopping off and grinding to a smooth finish the passenger pegs attached to the subframe? I've heard tipovers in this bike can total it if the pegs bend, since they're directly attached to that exposed subframe. Also, how's it feel around the corners? Scrambling for grip or stable?

TheSteps62 : There is basically no difference between a 2015 and 2016 models. I just got done riding for four days in the Colville national forest here in Washington. 140 miles of gravel roads, bike did excellent. You won’t be disappointed if you get that 2015 XRX.

@@windsurfed1 Thanks, what tyres are you using at the moment? As you are enjoying the gravel roads you might be using a trail type of tyre? What octane of petrol can you use? Would 91 be ok? Cheers.
@windsurfed1
@windsurfed1 5 жыл бұрын
TheSteps62: original tires wore out at 12,000 miles. Replace them with the same exact tires. I am a 90/10 Rider. 90% on pavement 10% Offroad I used to let the air pressure out when traveling off road. But I don’t anymore because I found myself on and off road so much when I did plan a route. I search out smooth gravel/dirt roads. No more Ruff stuff for me. The manual says you can use 87 octane which is regular gas I mix it up and use regular medium and premium. Here is a KZfaq link to that f4 dayride in the forest you might enjoy it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p6ejg7B4rtisaJ8.html

What’s it’s like off road please?
@windsurfed1
@windsurfed1 5 жыл бұрын
Jordan Graham. I am a 90/10er. Meaning I ride 90% on the road in 10% off the road so it has highway tires not really geared for off-road but when I do go off road I seek out smooth gravel roads that go for miles where I can travel at 55 and 60 miles an hour. It’s so much fun! I had it off road one time for 14 miles and very rough terrain it handled well even with the tires I had, but I went very slowly. Probably one of the hardest rides of my life. I rode dirt bikes for 20 years then as I got older I didn’t like the rough terrain anymore so I probably would say it fairs well off road. . For mud and sand and rock you would want more Knobby like Tires. Depending upon your riding preferences, Triumph offers a whole line of tigers geared from 90/10ers like me to 50/50ers.

I just bought a 2016 this week! How do you set the auto turn signal! I didn’t get the manual!
@windsurfed1
@windsurfed1 2 жыл бұрын
I don't believe there is a control for that. Not really sure. If you go in a straight line and I think after so many seconds (15) It automatically shuts off. I don't have the motorcycle anymore. Not sure also, but I think if you turn a corner it auto shuts off after about 10 seconds.

The triumph model has a self canceling turn signal function that can be disabled or enabled. To disable or enable the self canceling functions with the motorcycle stationary and a neutral, press and release the set button on the left hand switch houseing until “set up” is visible in the display screen. Press and release the scroll button until “Ind” is visible in the display screen. Press and release the set button and auto or manual will flash on and off. Press and release the scroll button to select auto or manual then press the set button. Exit self canceling turn signal menu by press and release the scroll button until the display shows return and press the select button.

Needless to say the Brits are always going to be biased, so don't take their words seriously for a moment. You must test ride one yourself to find out what's really like, this guy is American so it doesn't apply on him since it sounds like he's never owned a European motorcycle. I think Triumph building this bike with such a low ground clearance they've completely ruined it. I'm only 5'10' I had my legs bent, it's a very weird sensation, it felt like I was seating on a scooter, it's going to hit all sorts of bumps and uneven tarmac and scrape the foot pedals off especially into the bends. It didn't give me any confidence since i was always worried to touch down with that little sort of plate they've fitted under it, I definitely disliked the 19' front wheel, replacing the spokes, they've totally spoiled it, what a waste ! Thanks but no thanks !

I don’t quite get it. I am 5 foot eight and I’m on my tippy toes on this bike. Which I don’t have anymore because of life changes. But it was a good bike. The in-line three cylinder made it really smooth. I now own a Harley Davidson 2020 Tri Glide. Lost my balance on the Triumph one day and fell over. Went out and bought a Trike. Don’t have to worry about that anymore.
