Jeep replied to our information request 2 hours after this video was posted. So here are the verified facts (ignore what they say on their web site, and what you read in other articles.) The Trailhawk does in fact have Quadra-Drive II. The ONLY difference between Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II is that the latter has an electronic limited slip differential. They are otherwise identical. So our reference to QTII with an auto-locker basically describes the current version of QD II. The auto-locker engages in Rock mode.

"electronic limited slip" meaning electrically engaged limited slip, or an "e-diff", meaning the brakes are actuated to emulate having real limited slip diff when it is, in fact, an open diff?

Jeep has been dealing with parts shortages with the rear ELSD and has built Grand Cherokees that were supposed to have QuadraDrive2 instead with QuadraTrack2 and given a customer credit for the missing rear ESLD. That must be the case with your test unit since the rear diff didn’t show a locked symbol when you were in rock mode (26:40 in the video).
@tallll70
@tallll70 Жыл бұрын
@@ethanmonat ELSD in QD2 is combo of variable lsd and true mechanical locker in one, Eaton manufacture offers the whole thing either automatically controlled by vehicle's sensors or manual locker button engagement, unfortunately automakers often choose locker auto engagement only just like in Grand Cherokee... But apparently as said in video the Jeep still has break based traction control, each is probably used by different modes i would guess

Great presentation, content, demonstration of its impressive capabilities...which in my view could/would be enhanced with the QD2 air suspension and also if you had aired down the OEM tires; more aggressive tires would further enhance the off-roading experience! I just wanted to add that my 2012 T4R Limited 4x4 was a full-time 4x4 and you didn't engage "part-time" 4wd as you put it. It also stuck to the road like a race car on curvy roads. It was great off-road with the exception of factory 20" rims even after wrapping them in some AT tires. My 2017 TRD OffRoad Tacoma DOES have to be locked in and shows at the gas pump FWIW.

I appreciate this format of review without overly rehearsed demonstrations: The infotainment is glitchy? Mention it. The 4x4 system is confusing to operate? Show it. The digital dash is weirdly laid-out and not intuitive? Show the confusion. If it's not intuitive to someone like you, with experience on lots of systems in lots of cars, it will confuse most people. Good to know. Keep it up!

Wow!! Pretty capable ride! From what I understand, air suspensions tend to become really stiff when raised. I would like to see the difference in travel with it raised and lowered. I noticed that when you disconnected the sway bar on the climb, it didn't seem to change much. Maybe an inch. Still, great review as always!
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c Жыл бұрын
Air suspension is pretty stiff at full ride height...its also very expensive to fix when it fails, and it will fail. Disconnecting sway bars on an independent suspension vehicle isn't really going to gain you much suspension travel...A-Arms don't give much travel in the first place, and disconnecting a sway bar ain't gonna do much LOL.
@LafemmebearMusic
@LafemmebearMusic Жыл бұрын
@@wildbill23c fun fact. Did you know an aftermarket icon suspension or billsteien suspension instal and parts is between 6 to 10k to install and buy. Similarly it costs a lot to repair as well, similarly priced to the air suspension on this vehicle. Listen folx there’s a lot of old main stay information bits we pass around, but it’s 2022 and times have changed a lot. You can’t just make blanket statements and write things off so easily, do a few googles it’s not hard to find out the information I just spoke on. Also was in Moab with my 2021 bmwx5 with air suspension and talked to a few Toyota folx with tricked out systems and they concur for the most part about cost. The icon suspension on two of the rigs plus all the tires and wheels and beeded rims cost nearly 30k on those trucks. It’s all expensive run what you want have fun, you’d cry if the jeep broke you’d cry if the used off road jeep broke too, just have fun.

Yes, lane tracing is huge when it comes to long journeys. I just returned from a 20 hour round trip drive from Maryland to just about as north of New York as one can get. I used Tesla FSD for the entirety of the trip and the system definitely helped with fatigue. I think a new vehicle like the Jeep GC should have that tech standard. full time 4wd is just a fancy term for AWD with a push button to kick it into 4LO when you need it, its not true 4wd no matter how much they market it. their website even confirms that AWD is the same as full time 4wd minus the option to put the AWD into a low range. All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is almost the same as full-time Four-Wheel Drive (4WD). It is also a system that powers all four wheels of a vehicle at all times. It can be used full-time on all surfaces, including pavement, like full-time 4WD. The only difference is that a ''4-low'' setting is not available on AWD vehicles. Due to the lack of ''low range'', AWD vehicles are much less capable in off-road settings than full-time 4WD vehicles, but work perfectly well on-road.

what would be the difference off road performance between Cherokee Trailhawk and Grand Cherokee Trailhawk?

This review came at the right time. It's a good one! I've been thinking about trading my 4runner in for this. Ryan, I have the exact same 4runner as you, would you say trade it or keep it?

I’d recommend keeping it until we can see what the new 4Runner looks like. (Probably next year.)

@@0HOON0 there's nothing that I dislike about my 4runner. I dislike that I don't use it to it's full potential. At the end of the day, its a grocery getting mall crawler. That's why I think about getting something more comfortable and thats in the 21st century in terms of tech.

I believe the quadra-drive II is what the Trailhawk is equipped with, which is just the quadra-trac II system plus the rear locking diff, which is what the quadra-drive system always has been. Quadra-Trac is/was just the full time 4WD with low range in certain models, but with open differentials...Quadra-Drive is/was the Quadra-Trac 4WD system plus a rear locker...originally Quadra-Drive in the Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ's it had front and rear limited slip, and I believe the front limited slip was dropped in the WK model introduced in 2005.

@@drivingsports Yep, noticed after I spent the time typing the same thing that Jeep told you LOL. Although I prefer the old school Grand Cherokee with a lever for 4WD, no electronic issues to deal with later on when the shift motor fails or gets stuck in a mode and you have to take it to a dealer for repair/replacement. Not an electronics fan....my 2008 Ford Explorer ABS control module failed last winter rendering the vehicle quite useless as it set off a continual warning chime that wouldn't go away, disabled the stability control, traction control, ABS, and made the brakes very questionable if they would work or not, sometimes they would sometimes they wouldn't. The control module is no longer available, so you are stuck with a junk yard replacement, or a $400+ rebuild service and hope they get it right...and you have to have a dealer level scan tool in order to program the module to the vehicle, as well as to bleed the brake system. This was a $2K+ repair with a used part. So...electronics and me aren't exactly on the same page for reliability and repair issues.

A spare tire is actually very useful. In the event you have a blow out or just a flat tire, you can mount the spare and drive off. It is however a temporary tire, it is not sized to give you the same ride performance and to minimize space in the cargo area. This tire will allow you to self recover saving you time and money until you get your factory wheel / tire replaced.

For the price point and the facts it’s an off road focused vehicle, not having a standed full size spare shows Jeep is still cutting corners
