“I’m not a morning Person.” “I’d love to come to your sunrise yoga, but then I wanted sleep more” “I wish I could just get up and go to yoga with you, but I can never make myself do it”.
I’ve heard all those words, said them to myself even, and I feel them. In the moment of the alarm going off when you’re tired, it’s the worst. I love my sleep, I value my sleep. So “how” do I wake up early for sunrise yoga, or 4am hair & make up for ballroom competitions, for 3:30am cases, or just regular life on a Monday?

3 things you CAN take action on to help. But the REAL HACK to getting g up early? Have a vision that pulls you. Decide exactly how you’ll talk to yourself the moment the alarm goes off and you want to say to yourself “not today. No. I value sleep more. I can’t. You expect too much. This is too much.” Or whatever victim talk track you usually roll with… we all have our own words that allow us to “get out of jail free” or at least “sound” legit to say NO. So when that pain talk track starts, you have to be ready with the overthinking talk track of WHY YOU WILL DO THE THING THATS HARD or SCARY or UNCOMFORTABLE in that exact moment, practice it, and change your thoughts right there - in that moment.
Because pain pushes, until a vision pulls you. And the one way I have become someone who CAN get up early: how I talk to myself in that exact moment of the alarm going off waking me from a dead sleep, barely able to open my eyes, and just want to give up and snooze.
But I know how much I value being the girl who overthinks her way into believing in herself… and this small seemingly insignificant act of waking up early is what reminds my mind, body and spirit that “I can do hard things. I want more, so you know what? Screw that. Let’s go change our thoughts - right now. Not write about doing more, make plans to do more, create a vision board to do more, set goals for more - I am going to BE MORE RIGHT NOW, in this moment.
That’s how I get up early. I prove to myself I can change my thoughts in the moment. And that is priceless. Especially when it’s before the sun, behind closed doors, all alone, no one watching or caring if do it or not, only me to decide if it’s important to me…. That seemingly insignificant moment - that’s the difference.
