What protective gear are you using to make contact with the ground like that? Hands, allows and knees are my focus. Please help. I haven’t skated in over 20 years and just got a pair of 3/125 two days ago. I want to get good on them. I’m willing to practice and learn. I’m grateful for any guidance on protection gear (especially hands and wrists) etc…

About protective gear, you better wear at least knee pads. If you have gloves and kneepads, elbowpads are not nessary. For the beginning, you could also wear a hip protection. Personnaly, I never wore a helmet during my learning years back in the 990s et never hit my head on the ground. But a lot of people will tell you to wear one ;-) Up to you to decide

I'm curious about your skate setup. I've been dreaming about 3 x 125 for my rural road routes.
@skatingdoctor
@skatingdoctor Жыл бұрын
3x125 has proven its value. My setup is unusual, because this Endless Blading frame was not planned for 3x125, but for 3x110 (or 4x100 with a 1mm rocker). I only had to cut the boots with a Dremel to free the room needed to put the 125 wheels in place. But now it is very stable, because it is almost as low as a 3x110 😉

Hey vincjom, any tips on how to go this low ?I have great stopping power and overall I am happy with my skating skills, but I am barelly able to touch the ground since my squat mobility is not great, but I would really love to learn to do something similar .
@skatingdoctor
@skatingdoctor Жыл бұрын
As you can see, it's one of my specialties (with downhill) 😉 If you watch closely, I'm not really doing squats. The outer leg is extended. The inner leg is at 45°, just in case I loose the grip with the outer leg. To reach these angles, it depends on the quality of the urethane of your wheels, on the grip of the road and on your frame. You can do it with any frame. I do it with 3x125, 4x100, DH350 (125-110-110-125), 5x84... Then you must have enough speed. The bigger the frame/wheels, the faster you must ride. After this, you can see you could draw a straight line frome my head to the outer skate and my body is bent forward. If you have this position, you can touch the ground. Maybe for a first try you could ride with new wheels, so you're confident in the grip. But I can assure you I do it everyday with used wheels 😉

In this video with DH350 (125-110-110-125), wheels were brand new. So I had to reach 30 kmh to be able to put the hand flat on the ground because it was quite impossible to let the skates turn more than that. But with the wheels being new, I had 100% confidence, and could put weight 50 - 50% on left and right leg kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o5uafsSQzN7Uoqs.html&feature=share&EKLEiJECCKjOmKnC5IiRIQ

Here, I have 4x100 with a 1mm rocker. That allows sharp turns at low speed kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8V4pNB83ruxpnU.html&feature=share&EKLEiJECCKjOmKnC5IiRIQ

@skatingdoctor
@skatingdoctor Жыл бұрын
@@vincenthenriod5867 Hello!

Do you think you could go downhill on a speed skate boot? Albeit with smaller wheels (maybe 100mm)?
@skatingdoctor
@skatingdoctor Жыл бұрын
You can do everything with anything. But you must be confident with your braking technique. A few years ago, a french woman practiced downhill with speed skates and won a few (difficult and technical) downhill races. Her name's Caroline Jean

If you can find a way of braking, you can do anything. As you see on my videos, I can gloveslide with any setup (3x125, 125-110-110-125mm, 4x100, 5x84,...). And even still have grip on only one skate with both hands on the ground. So no thing's crazy to me!

These are 'longboard sliding gloves' initially designed for longboarders. You can buy cheap ones on Amazon (these were 25$). Dont need leather. But for the sliding pads, you must buy good ones. Because the one on the cheap gloves were... not sliding!
