Do ALL INFP's struggle with perfectionism, imposter syndrome and procrastination? Because it feels like it 😅 I'm a student, lockdown hit me hard as all my worst habits flourished (hermit mode? Disappearing for 5 months??? Yeah) and I'm trying lately to get into a semi-functional routine. If I don't have external forces guiding me, I really struggle to keep to my own word. I've been beating myself up over this so bad, because my roommates make it look so easy - just go to sleep earlier, wake up earlier, do things on time, don't procrastinate or doubt yourself or push yourself to an unhealthy limit - and I feel like such a failure next to them. I do think though, something clicked that you said in another video - I need to recognise that my lifestyle might not fit a 9 to 5, no matter how much I force it. If I can embrace my natural creative rhythm, maybe I can stop feeling so damn guilty all the time. Thank you - I have a feeling I'll be bingeing all the video's on this channel!!! Xx

Omg ikr, ever since lockdown I've been in my hermit mode and it was hard to keep up with school related things. It seems that going out, meeting people was always my best variable control for me to be able to keep up with others. Lack of exposure of what real life actually is kinda made me feel disconnected.

But when I recently found out that I'm an INFP and that somone like you talk about these stuffs, it's making me understand myself more and push myself to thinking what I'm feeling is completely fine and there are so many others out there who experience the same thing and that I am not alone. I don't remember how old I was when I first experienced imposter syndrome, but I remember feeling like a monster in sheep's clothing. By the time I was 10 the feeling got strong and I was so nervous that other people would see me for who I was and judge me. It would be years before I learned about imposter syndrome and that lots of people had experienced the same thing as me. I'm so glad I found your channel! Through my life I've been called lazy and "slow" but I've always felt like I was better than that, despite feeling a strong hatred for myself and endless loneliness. I'm starting to understand that there is nothing wrong with me, I just need to build the right environment around me for my body, spirit and mind to blossom ✿ Thank you for sharing knowledge and compassion ♥

I can definitely relate to the parts about being a life long learner yearning for further information all the time, and the natural creative. And I think, for me, they blend quite a lot. When I was in college, I started out in interior design... but because of the combination of my health and a learning disability related to numbers and lines, I eventually had to switch gears and move onto the next degree I'd planned. My intention was to get degrees in interior design and English, and take photography courses during the summers. Life didn't turn out that way. My time in school taught me some tremendously valuable lessons, but simultaneously, my health declined. I was just starting a new career, and less than 6 months after graduation with my master's degree, state law changed requirements. So, I wrote books until I no longer could. Writing books was part of my initial goal, but those were in conjunction with designing interiors and doing the photography and text for books on specific topics within the trade. Instead, I ended up writing Christian time travel. Even now, I don't usually call myself an author despite that I am. I call myself a writer because I grew up hearing that unless you make atleast as much money as Louis Lamour or Tim LaHaye, you should just give up. That understanding of the writing world by some of my family members has consistently led me to use their language, feeding into the feeling of being an imposter. So, no matter how many authors I know, how well known they are, or where we met, I often don't think that I should be sharing shop talk with them... especially now that writing is on hold. And knowing that most of those authors live with imposter syndrome, too, doesn't seem to help. It helps me empathize with them, but not necessarily make me feel better that I'm not the only one.
@MsDoryLinda

What a rich and interesting journey you are on! I was so captivated reading through all of this. How you've had to pivot and change course, adapt to challenges and persevered through push-backs, that is so inspiring. So interesting the labels we feel comfortable with and the ones we reject, the language we accept and adapt and make it our own even when internally we don't feel the same (author and writer). I remember listening to Maya Angelou once saying even after all the success she's had she still felt like an impostor every time she published a book, isn't that interesting? We definitely have to guard our precious gifts and only share our aspirations where they can be celebrated. I see writing as something that comes in circles, just like art. Just like the message I shared in the other video about us being vessels of greater things coming through us. With that special gift, we don't get to dictate how much or when it comes, if we are truly allowing the authentic rawness of if to come through. My feeling is, that's what your "on hold" moments are. They are equally important parts of the process as the writing seasons.

I totally agree with problem #2, learning but not executing. I'm obsessed to learning a lot of stuff, academics, psychology, self-help books that it came to the part that its hard for me to create ideas. I can say I have knowledge on this area, I consume a lot of information but it's not keeping in me, the ideas are there but it's not as strong because I don't put it into practice, nor execute them. I'm still facing this problem currently, letting what I learn go to waste, I should execute them instead.

I do all of this!!! I'm a professional artist. It was and is very hard for me to even say that about myself. I had a hard time with this in Art School and I had to really learn that I don't have to do everything. I still to this day struggle with this. I have now come to a point that I really have to hire people to do some of things that I don't know how to do or don't want to do or take the time out to learn and master a new skill set. I'm very much of a perfectionist when it comes to some things. If I see someone doing it in a way I wouldn't do it or it is not getting done in time I have to step in. Which I know, I can't always do nor do I really want to. As for living like an impostor I have run into this a few different times in school and doing jobs I really didn't like doing and didn't feel I was really getting anything out of it. Also doing are I remember even saying to myself and sometimes to other people that I wanted to be a Master in any of the arts that I was interested in. I'm a dancer, Stand up Comic, Fine Art Photographer, designer, sculpted, painter, (learning again how to sew, knitting, crochet, leather working I hope to make coat's and some clothes, bags or anything I come up with) wood working, Architecture, interior design, play a few different instruments, love all types of music, actor, writing, motorcycle riding, soccer, field hockey, swimmer, I have been performing since I was a kid, traveler (this is what I can think of off the top of my head) etc.....(My poor parents) LOL!!! Right now I am working on 7+ different projects. I have always been that way my family never could understand this and would ask me why all the time and teachers. I do remember telling a gallery owner why I work this ways because they said I lost interest...NO not at all. I just sometime get stuck on how to do something and move on to another project until I figure it out and go back to it. I work in a "Circle" is the best way for me to say it. I also don't really like to talk about all the things I have done or planning on doing because of "Naysayers"!! They really affect me. This has happen to me all my life and stops me from even trying. I have to really push myself through it and sometime just to prove them wrong more so when I was younger. I have figure a lot of this out without any help. I find it interesting to find someone talking about this. I think I only talked about this with one friend one time years ago in art school. I'm very glad I end up going to the art school I did. I learned so much about myself and how strong I really am! I could also train myself to do much more than I though I could ever do with and without help. Also to see that some things I am just not that good doing and it was ok.Also being ok saying it as well. :)

What a rich and full life you lead 😊 I can definitely relate to the duality of a great sense of discovery when we try new things, and at the same time the challenge of letting go and hire people for some things since so not to try to master everything. That fear you described in your chest, is exactly what I feel in my body, manifested as physical pain. I'm working through recovery in a community of fellow chronic pain sufferers and according to many psychosomatic practitioners, the primary cause for pain is fear/anxiety. And of course, goodist/perfectionist personality types experience this the most. I've been reading all of the comments under your videos and it seems sooo many of us INFP-T tyoes suffer from anxiety and other psychosomatic disorders. Have been feeling that I don't belong here and not doing justice to the role. Have discussed this with my boss who says I am doing alright and it takes years to be really great at something. If you're interested in saving your space in what you've built with your current organization, it's worth getting some research backed data and talk to management to perhaps change the way things are done. If you can demonstrate what they're losing or what they can gain (financially speaking by gaining better work/progress or saving time etc) then they'd be more inclined to listen. Learning learning learning, I used to panic and overwhelm myself with knowledge because I never felt like I knew enough, I decided it was to do with fear of not being prepared or potentially good enough, I saw it as trying to feel more secure and safe within the world. Also I have a thing where I don't feel like I need a teacher especially when it comes to personal growth, tho there are times that I feel so overwhelmed with life I search for one but I feel they either don't know as much as I do already or they don't understand me and what I need and that is frustrating mostly I find myself just being reminded of what I already know I need to do 😊 I do find it hard if I find something difficult in an area I usually do or understand easily and can get overwhelmed with feelings and have to breathe and tell myself it's part of the process just keep going and it will become clearer.... I had a lady say to me on a course when I was overwhelmed that she felt I was the kind of person that usually was good at everything and when I find something difficult I struggle, I had to say to her that's not right, actually at the moment my life is very full and quite difficult and I want this thing I'm interested in learning to be easy because I do not have the extra energy right now to put into something that is difficult...

Also I started a project at the end of 2019, I am a home educating mum and wanted to work in an environment where I get paid for being me, where my work is also a part of my everyday home education, I wanted to teach families so the parents learnt with the children, I had much learning in spiritual growth and teachings in alternative therapies and thought I could start a group, I also wanted others to join me and we work together, I kept it going throughout 2020 as much as possible and through part of 2021 but I found it hard to carry on without others helping and it was alot of pressure, I am proud that I kept going for over a year, potentially a year and a half but I felt like I was trying to do everything and I was overwhelmed and felt I wasn't doing a good job and it wasn't matching what I wanted and felt like an imposter as when overwhelmed I couldn't gain access to the knowledge I had accumulated so planning what I was going to talk about each week was difficult, if I was to do it again I would probably get lessons in how to teach children and how to facilitate family sessions....

Thank you for sharing. I think understanding what type of people we are and how we function can really help us understand how to design the functions of our lives. I'm glad you experimented and was able to see how the pieces fit for you.
@MsDoryLinda
@MsDoryLinda 2 жыл бұрын
As for asking for the right type of support, it helps to understand what stage of idea development you are at to determine the right type of support. Eg. If you're at the experimentation stage you might want to be open to trying different possibilities that may be out of your comfort zone. If you are at a stage where you''ve already validated your idea and ways to work, you might need someone to be more of a mirror and holding space for resilience, as it's a long road and exhausting without that type of support. So knowing where we are helps us know what type of support to ask for. Does that make sense?

You and me both!! I've found GaryVee, strangely enough, talk about patience and being willing to have a long term view so not to stress about not seeing change in the short term. I'm intentionally meditating on this. In some ways impostor syndrome is a sign we're stepping so far out of our comfort zones our bodies just don't know how to appropriately respond 😉

Thank you for sharing your story. Writing is very helpful for me as well. Impostor syndrome is something I struggle with at the moment as I'm training to become a hypnotherapist. I can definitely relate to perfectionism ahah. And also with the learner I guess 😂 I have also a hard time to ask for help. All you discussed is really spot on. Thank you for the tools. Indeed remembering that my failures are actually something I can learn from is really helping me. And preventing from putting too much pressure on myself. Being realistic is definitely something I need to work on, thank you for the video, really helpful 🙂 Nice Job

It always seem to show up when we are moving to new heights doesn't it? Especially if you're a seeker and have had many interests, for me it always shows up as "can you just stick to one thing" 😆 In the past I tried to be less seeker like, if that's a word so I can have this consistency I see others have. But as I've grown to embrace all of me, I can now hear it and that accusation feels false, whereas it used to bring horrible judging sentiments in the past. So yes getting to know ourselves better helps debunk the narrative that needs to be released vs something we can perhaps work on.
@MichaelSimone

@@MsDoryLinda Ahah yes exactly, I like how you put it. I used to be annoyed that I needed to seek so many things. I've tried so settle down as well, but now I'm becoming more aware of it, embracing it. And by knowing that this is healthy for me, I can enjoy it instead of blaming me :) So yes I definitely can relate!

Then when i am doing my degree, i am struggling and i feels like i don't have mastered any skills in my life. I feel useless. Is it how imposter syndrome?
@MsDoryLinda
@MsDoryLinda 4 жыл бұрын
Impostor syndrome is a pattern of doubting your accomplishments and having a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud". Being exposed as a fraud means you feel one day someone is going to realize you're not as smart or deserved to have been acknowledged for the accomplishments you've had. You fear you're going to be "found out" as impersonating someone who's smart and accomplished. Like I said in the video, this usually happens to people who are actually well accomplished. Do you feel that's what you've been experiencing?
@azrina1230

@@MsDoryLinda actually i never experienced failure in my life before i study for my degree. My life always goes smoothly and i just follow the flow. Then i continue my degree and it is the first time i cannot complete something in my life, i have to extend my study and i really afraid and ashamed if people found about it. Since i was young people always see me as a good student, but now i ended up as someone who far away behind my friends. It makes me really frustrated with myself.

@@MsDoryLindanow, i am trying to accept that every person have some failure at some point of their life. I try to think more positively, maybe this is the opportunity for me to learn. So that, if something happens in the future i can handle it more easily. Hope you can understand my english. 😊
@MsDoryLinda
@MsDoryLinda 4 жыл бұрын
Oh I understand your English no problem there, I was asking you those questions so that I can make suggestions towards what you personally want right now. If you're looking to make peace and grow from this situation try looking at how much of your identity is tied to external "wins or success". So ask yourself questions and sit with them to see how your body and mind reacts to them. Ask yourself "would I still feel loved and accepted by my family if I wasn't the success they believed me to be"? Because what if the frustration lies in fear that we won't be loved or accepted unless we outwardly perform to a certain level? And not necessarily with the inability to perform at a certain level? See the difference? Just something to think about 😊
