Great points, Nour. With both Mystical Greenwood and its upcoming sequel, I tried focusing on Nature-based magic only and also trying to keep in mind that it's a last resort but also has limitations.

I keep forgetting my magic exists because none of my characters use it / are good at it lmao. So when I sit down with my magic system it's like I'm looking at a stranger. I need it to explain other stuff in my setting but it gives me a headache. 😂

I want to come up with Magic Wands in my fiction, just need to make sure they’re different than those of Harry Potter and some other fantasies.

Magic doesn't need to be original, some of the best stories I've read are ones where the magical system is based on classical ideas of how magic works. Magic doesn't need to cause internal conflict, not every tool needs to cause conflict in a story. Adding in conflict just for the sake of conflict can detract from the actual themes of the tale. And yes, magic shouldn't simply be an easy solution to all problems, but it's fine if it sometimes is.

I agree completely. I think the most important part in a fantasy story is the characters and how the magic system contributes to the characters and their arc.

I'm going to disagree with point 2, because that's like saying "if your character uses a cell phone, they need to be conflicted about it or it should hurt them to use". If the focus of your story isn't on the dangers or internal conflicts of using magic, then it's fine to just use said magic as a smaller part of the world! Adding unnecessary conflict just for the sake of "depth" can actually harm a story rather than help it.

Hmmm idk if just getting exausted -> passing out -> going into a coma when you use it is a good enough limitations or not

About 2: I don't agree. I don't think the magic should have "cost" something for inner conflict. Maybe someone uses his power to help his country, but wonders if killing people is the way. Also, struggle doesn't need to be the same all the time or even be an inner conflict. Example: one time my character had to choose between the immidiate danger he saw to his son and the morality of killing a stranger (he carried him to.the queen to avoid it), another time he was distrssed over killing hos beloved tree and a third time he knew it was his life ir someone else's. In neither case was a conflict, he always knew what he should do, but it did come with burden (okay, the first time is more annoyance than emotinal burden, but still)
