Of course your hair will grow regardless of what you do because it's in your genetic makeup but are you going to be able to retain most of your length? That's the main question and the aim of protective style is to do that. But now you don't want to protective style because you probably want to be able to rock your hair, style it as you want, and not always keep it tucked, essentially you want the freedom, or your reason is something else. Yes, you can still retain your length without protective styling, but if you hair is in the type 4 range, say 4c, it may be harder to see good length retention results without protective styling with styles like mini twists, mini braids, etc....but there's hope.
