I find castor oil to be quite heavy on the scalp due to its thickness. I rather use lighter oils like olive & argan oil.

I tried your recipe as part of my moisturising routine and it has made a huge difference. My hair has kept its moisture for longer and it feels stronger. It’s only been a week but I was so impressed I added horsetail cloves and rosemary. What I also love is that it darkens grey hair. Thanks for sharing this great recipe.

The truth is truthing!! I’ve known this for a while. My hair had been thinning simply because I have PCOS, so as a result it tends to shed a lot more than usual. But there’s a memory I keep from an old coworker: nurture, take of and love your hair the way you would a plant and you will see the difference ❤ I learned my hair grows best when I do it myself, I guess because I can’t braid as tightly it doesn’t strain my scalp. But in the moment growth isn’t really the concern its more so shedding so I’m working on my hormones and changing my diet in hopes my hair appreciates it.

How does it take for your hair to dry after washing
@Ifeoma_Gift

@Ifeoma_Gift
@Ifeoma_Gift 16 күн бұрын
@@ajayiosahenrumwen5519 Based on that short drying time, I would say high porosity. But there could be other factors. If your hair easily absorbs products, it could also be high. For a start, you can use the water test to find out. Tbh, sometimes my hair dries in shorter time, say 3 hours. There was a time I even believed my hair switched porosities. The confusion is real. Porosity is just a small factor for good hair care. The major factor is using products that your hair easily absorbs, and which keep your hair moisturized the longest, irrespective of your porosity. That's where humectants + butters + protective styling come handy.

@@Ifeoma_Gift I wash my hair every three weeks and deep conditioner every three weeks too. I condition my hair twice a week but I am not very consistent. I trim my hair every three month and I do protein treatment every three months too. But I am thinking of washing and making my hair every two weeks and trimming every six month and also making my hair myself because the hairdresser are just too harsh on my hair. What do you think I should do to improve my hair routine and maximize hair growth
@Ifeoma_Gift
@Ifeoma_Gift 14 күн бұрын
@@ajayiosahenrumwen5519 That's some impressive routine there. From your plan, I would say you're halfway there. You say 'maximizing your hair growth'. May I ask whether you've seen some growth with this routine at all? If yes, changing your routine might not be the issue, but enhancing it. If no, then you absolutely should switch things up. Since I don't know how well your current routine works for you, my suggestions may not do justice. But one thing I've spotted in your routine that could cause setback is your 'frequency'. I think you might be doing a little too much based on the time stretch between your treatments. Your washday frequency of 3 weeks is fine, which is a good start. You don't have to condition your hair twice weekly if it disturbs your schedule. Once weekly is fine. The important thing is 'be consistent'. 3 months trimming frequency is too much to see any new growth. 6 months is okay but still may not be necessary. The pointer to know when to trim is 'split ends'. When your ends are rough and the split ends are too many to handle, that's when you need a trim, and it could take even a year for this to happen except you use heat/ manipulate too much/damaged hair. As long as you don't do much with your hair, you won't need a trim anytime soon. Many deep conditioners are actually protein treatments and shouldn't be done as often as 3 weeks. I would recommend that you stretch your deep conditioning to 2 or 3 months. More so, in the months that you do protein treatments, you don't need to deep condition again. Sorry about your experience with rough hairdressers. They are likely the major problem to your hair growth setbacks. Making your hair yourself is a very good move, especially if you can cope with it. Otherwise, finding a trusted natural hair stylist is equally a good option. Hope this helps. All the best with your hair ❤️

@Ifeoma_Gift
@Ifeoma_Gift 21 күн бұрын
Very fine, thanks so much 🥰 Oh yes, after my last mini twists challenge, I installed mini braids, and I have stuck them ever since, even currently. I still wear twists (in-between losing my style and wash day) before my next install. Honestly, plaits win for me, not because I'm unable to retain length with twists, but plaits manage my shed hair much better than twists, which increases my length retention results. Plaits have also been convenient for my schedule these past weeks, but that could still change in the future.

Your experience with shea butter is quite like mine. My hair loves Shea. The softness is usually unmatched 😩 I hardly get the same results with my go-to oils. Sure! I've used some in the past but I haven't had any positive experiences until using mega growth leave-in strengthener. I noticed it contains at least 2 emollients (aloe extract & glycerin). I've heard good things about Auntie Jackie's curl milk, and Shea moisture for type 4 hair, but I haven't used either of them. I'll tell you to just make sure your leave-in has at least 2 emollients in its ingredients and you can be sure to get enough slip (slippery but thick consistency).

I have almost completely stopped using store bought products, but I love the diy life I love knowing exactly what is going in my hair and seeing what my hair likes and dislikes. I struggle with long term styles. I wish I could easily go a month in cornrows. I just can't keep my hands out of my hair. I recently tried a challenge which has me washing my hair only once every month, I wash weekly so I thought my scalp was going to be itching and dirty but I haven't experienced any of that. I am looking for a simpler routine and hair regimen that allows me to get length retention.

Well I don’t agree with this method. Spraying your hair with water alone is not moisture but just hydration. You will need to add a leave in conditioner for a complete moisture because water/tea will evaporate easily and that will cause dryness which will eventually lead to breakages. There’s also hygral fatigue of which I’m not ready to go into details.
@Ifeoma_Gift
@Ifeoma_Gift Ай бұрын
It's totally fine if you don't agree with it, but did you watch the vid to the end though? I acknowledged that water isn't enough from 09:00. I also recommended lighter options to add to the routine to preserve moisture, and I mentioned skipping the scalp when wetting your hair to keep it dry and breathable, which should prevent hygral fatigue. Generally, this routine is more suited for low porosity people who retain moisture much longer. It's actually not suitable for everyone. But this doesn't change the fact that some people are able to retain length from this routine...which is simply a combination of protective styling, trims, water, herbal rinses, and mild oils.
@Ifeoma_Gift
@Ifeoma_Gift Ай бұрын
More so, I only started using leave-in conditioner like 8 months ago or less, and my hair had already almost hit bra strap before then. So I don't rate leave-ins as a major moisture ingredient for me because they're something I can easily do without.

@Ifeoma_Gift
@Ifeoma_Gift Ай бұрын
I may have experienced something similar some years back during the maximum hydration craze. But I won't call it a full experience, especially because at the time, I wasn't sure what damage I was causing my hair follicles and strands. But the first signs I noticed was this lifeless appearance to my strands, very dry and dull. Plus the shedding was just something else, and there was this soreness I felt on my scalp, so I took a break, and not long after, I big chopped my hair. But personally, I don't think getting hygral fatigue is that easy. You have to be really washing your hair like everyday with harsh soaps and deep conditioning too often to end up with such problem.
