@12:30. If it was welded inside C channel. That would cause a weak point. It’s inside a cutout. The weld stabilizes. When you weld you burn into the metal. It changes the temper a bit. (Nirmally) The weld is stronger then surrounding metals which are slightly weakened. IF they weld into C channel from both sides. You penetrate all the way thru.

Wow!! Your landing gear has two gears for a reason. dropping a empty trailer you use the high gear and when the pads hit the ground you unhook. A loaded trailer if you drop it like that you will not get back under it to rehook so when you unhook a loaded trailer you put down until the pads hit and then you switch to low gear and crank it about ten times then unhook

Maybe someone has already suggested this....You could hang/weld another tool box above your present one. Leave enough space that you could still access the lower one. A cheap addition, in my opinion, and it might get you blankets, etc out of the weather and dirt.

The problem with the brakes is: Over time the heat they take makes those two springs stop having the necessary force to close the shoes, You would only have to change all the springs and the problem would be solved. Hey there Y. A good idea is install a New 7-way Plug in the Bed of your truck ( Driver’s side ) Sometimes those bumper plugs in extremely bad weather get really dirty and could play havoc on your brakes and lighting systems. If you do this you may want to replace trailer end also. Cheap SAFE Maintenance. Have a Great Day.

Hi. I see a lot of badly worn tires, especially the inside ones. They have to be rotated and as they are radial, the direction of rotation cannot be changed, for that; rim A (steering wheel side out) and rim B (in side) We take A to B to the passenger side and B to A and do the same with the passenger side (This is for tandem trailers) For singles we have to disassemble the rim and turn the rim. Always remember that you cannot change the direction of rotation that the tire says in its specification. This applies to the truck as well. I do this every 2 weeks.

Bro so for every inch of weld it is able to support 7000 lbs. also the material used to weld that steel together is stronger then the metal the trailer is made of. If you were putting 500,000 lbs on the trailer then I would be concerned about a week point, but for the weight your hauling you have nothing to worry about as far as weak points with steel on your trailer

I have a Diamond C. Welds are perfect and the front steps retract so you don't have a issue with them bending. I got the FMAX 207 35' with super-singles 17.5" LR-H and pull out ramps for about $10,900. The tool box is huge and has a double gas strut assist and a solid lock. Build quality is FIRST rate. Truck and trailer weigh about 15,100 lbs. so with 26,000 plated weight I have a solid 10,000 lb. capacity. Only have 10,000 miles on the Diamond C but no problems so far. My 2011 RAM 3500 has 203,000 and going strong. Putting 19.5's with Michelin XDS 2 tires on next week. Works for me hauling 40' containers and the fuel millage and maneuverability are great. Just my opinion but I think you will find duals are a pain in the ass. A super-single is much better built tire and there is only one tire to check. Duals; if the pressure is not balanced the tires will have a different compressed radius and will wear one against the other. I'm able to get 80,000 miles out of duals on another vehicle by keeping both inside and outside tire exactly the same pressure but most people simply hit the tires with a hammer to see if they are inflated and leave it at that. You can see they be complaining about tire wear latter.
@tomcat59863 жыл бұрын
Definitely considering my next one to be a Diamond C. I am looking at a tri-axle though. What's your take on them? Also, to insure equal pressure on your tow rig, do you use a system like Crossfire to equal each tire?
@johnschubert46653 жыл бұрын
thomas smith I use “Cat Eye” to get equal pressure. I have a double axle but I would probably use a triple axle if I were hauling cars. John
@tomcat59863 жыл бұрын
@@johnschubert4665 I have the Crossfire on my dually and like it. If I were to get a dual axle trailer I think it would be a good investment for it as well. What is the trailer you have GVWR? I have heard some hotshots on here saying they will stay away from dual tandems on their next trailer for a few reasons.
@my11badkids783 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry about the welding. Technically when metal is welded correctly it is stronger then the metal surrounding it. Thats how you get certified as a welder. You weld a coupon and they cut it into slabs and do stress tests on it to verify you got the correct penetration and that it is strong enough. They then Xray those slabs to ensure the metal was properly welded. Big Tex being as big of a company as it is and making products that have to adhere to to U.S. D.O.T. guidelines most certainly have hired A.S.M.E. certified welders.

In reference to the strange/uneven tire wear: I’ve seen a few big Tex trailers now that have really thin walls on the axle tubing that cracks and eventually fails so you may want to look into how thick your axle walls are and possibly upgrading to thicker ones.

Check 3 point trailer alignment for tire where
@MonsterTruckingCo. Жыл бұрын
Not sure if you know this, but your complaint about welds being the weak spot is something that’s not true. The weld area in fact is actually stronger than the materials being welded. You likely will never break a good weld, the material would more than likely shear before or after the weld zone if anything was to fail. To have this happen, would take lot of force, so much force, that the trailer would likely not be useable. Example of enough force, a collision directly impacting the trailer. Normal day to day use, not likely you’ll break a properly cleaned and prepped weld.
@gusfc18423 жыл бұрын
I believe the decking on that trailer is Southern yellow pine pressure treated but it's only 1" Thick I believe You want inch and a one and half inches thick so the material slides on the would not wear the medal Basically you want the wood to stick up more than the metal
@MonsterTruckingCo. Жыл бұрын
Winch track is made in 6’ or 8’ pieces. This is why you see welds on the track at the seam. Perfectly normal and nothing against Big Tex, has everything to do with the lengths the track is manufactured in.

I saw in a video by Tow Piglet that Big Tex uses thin wall axles and they start to bend which causes premature tire wear on the inside tires. His axle eventually broke while going down the road and he had to replace it on the side of the highway. You should get a straight edge and check if the axle is starting to bend and replace it before you get stranded.

It could happen with any brand here & there. This one just happened to slip through qc. Always, always, always look over your trailer before hooking up to a new or used purchase. It will only help you & the seller with quality and warranty issues. With used trailers, it may save you repair cost down the road by preventing a bad sale. CYOA

Your wear out is related to axles that are not square. I had the similar issue, where I had to pay for two axles to stay on the road. Because of that I'm not sure I will go with another Big Tex. Add a nut for that spare tire and strap it down or you’ll loose it down the road.

I lost one, turned around and had to go find it. Luckily I seen it rolling off into the grass. First and last time I carried a tire like that. Got that spare mount I had been thinking about for a few years haha

Thats not a 12k brake it looks like a 7k brake. You need a driver side which is a part# 023-442-00 electric.

I have checked out many of trailers and big tex makes good stuff. The axles are dexter brand which is gold standard of trailer axles.

@@tomcat5986 I have heard so many bad things about big tex trailers. Go with Kaufman they cheap and built with good quality. At least mine was!

@@holguineroloco I've seen many people with Kaufman, I don't know much about their quality though.

@@tomcat5986 I personally own a 40 ft flat bed and it has been doing good for me, I just had to replace the spring bushings and oil, but thats just regular maintenance. The trailer is from 2011 tho.
