There's a setting that puts a horizontal red line across the screen whenever you're in Volume view. Technically not needed, but it's quite useful because whenever you leave Volume view, you'll be on whatever slice that red line falls on. Using that, you can rotate your view to align the redline over the ball, and the next part of the course and then switch out of Volume view and go.

There are five platonic solids in 3D, six in 4D, and three in every higher dimensional space. The three that exist everywhere are the equivalents of a tetrahedron, cube and octahedron (which is a dual of a cube). In 4D these are 5-cell (made of tetrahedra), tesseract (made of 8 cubes) and 16-cell (made of tetrahedra), the remaining three are 600-cell (made of tetrahedra, equivalent to icosahedron), 120-cell (made of dodecahedra, equivalent to dodecahedron), and 24-cell (made of octahedra, equivalent to nothing).

7:20 it is possible to mirror the world by rotating it in 4d, much like you can flip over a piece of paper in 3d, so you got turned around due to that
@Varandru2 ай бұрын
Expanding the analogy, you just turn, say, katha, until the world looks the same, but mirrored? Because to turn around a 2d sheet of paper in XY I rotate it in XZ?
@creativenametxt29602 ай бұрын
@@Varandru yeah, pretty much if you got a 3d object with directions (x, y, z, w): forward (1, 0, 0, 0) right (0, 1, 0, 0) up (0, 0, 1, 0) you just rotate it around the plane (x, w) by 180 degrees to get up and right unchanged, but forward flipped, which is just mirroring the 3d object around the plane (y, z)

10:20 you know something, replays would actually be a fantastic addition i think. especially were there some kind of splitscreen view so you could watch what's happening in slice and volume views at the same time. i've made some shots with some of the weirder obstacles like those hyperspheres, that icicle or the rotating platforms where i went off course and had no idea what happened
@drdca82632 ай бұрын
10:46 : indeed! In higher than 4 dimensions, iirc, there’s like, Uh, well there’s the n-cube, the n-simplex (analogy to the tetrahedron), and... I think like, 2 others? Oh, I guess there’s probably an analogy to the octahedron, dual to the n-cube ? (Take each hypersurface of the n-cube and put a point at its center. Then take the convex hull of these points. I’m pretty sure this should be a Platonic n-solid . Doing the same thing to the regular n-simplex should I think just give you the n-simplex.) Uh, maybe there’s only those 3 for n>4 actually? Idr. Of course, there are plenty of weird polyhedra-like shapes in higher dimensional spaces, I just mean “ones where all of their (n-1)-dimensional parts are congruent, and also satisfy the same property one level down”. So, like, I guess there’s no way to e.g. stick together a bunch of regular 24-cells of the same size in order to form the boundary of a 5D thing. But more generally, in topology, lots of stuff actually gets simpler (in a certain sense) after dimensions 4 or 5 . Like, the simplest stuff is in dimensions 0, then 1, then 2, The most difficult to classify tends to be in dimensions 3,4,5 , and then stuff higher than that, gets simpler again (and like, the same in each) Though like, I’m not saying that the “it gets simple after this number” is the same for all questions. There are some things that are special in 6,7,8 dimensions, and also 24? (E.g. “exotic 7-dimensional spheres”. Iirc there are multiple inequivalent ways to put differentiable structure on something which is topologically a 7D sphere. And for sphere packing there’s the E8 lattice and stuff) But like, for a lot of questions, 4 dimensions is the last case to get fully solved, with the higher dimensional stuff getting solved first. Iirc.

the 4d world does not have any 3d objects, they are all 4d, otherwise they would be surfaces not objects
@drdca82632 ай бұрын
It often makes sense to regard objects as surfaces. E.g. a sheet of paper. It still makes sense to call it an “object” while thinking of it as a surface.
@sirati97702 ай бұрын
@@drdca8263 a sheet of paper has a depth, it is not just a surface. just because we mainly use it for the purpose of its maximised one surface side, does not make the object itself the surface

@@sirati9770 I know it is not just a surface. When I said it can be thought of as one, I meant that as an approximation. It is slightly thickened. One can always take an epsilon thickening of whatever lower dimensional thing one wants to embed.

I have a couple criticisms about this game as well as some things I feel the creator did right. 1. This is one of the first games I've seen to actually make the whole environment visible, not just a slice so I greatly appreciate that, but why is the environment so transparent to the point it's a bit hard to see while seemingly random chunks of the map are completely opaque? 2. while I like how it accurately shows fog [albeit only in one direction for some reason] and I understand making the environment transparent [thank you Dev], for some reason it's translucent too, is this an oversight? 3. this is a bit weird to say but I wish I could see what other people usually see when looking at 4d rotations. People often say bizarre things like the shapes are going "inside out" or "disappearing" or it's somehow "psychedelic" but I all I'm seeing is just a normal rotation around a plane, can someone please fill me in?
@user-tl4bg3ci3g2 ай бұрын

@DontfeelNienfeeler2 ай бұрын
@@user-tl4bg3ci3gfor number three it actually has nothing to do with the game and it's just a general statement, what do 4d rotations look like to you? why would they look weird to you?, in what way does it not appear to be a rotation to you? Also weird that you call it "volume mode" when really you are just looking at the floor, or at least that's what I see anyways.
