Prices on essential services (housing, food, energy, healthcare, education, etc) can drop to zero thanks to automation and AI. We just need to regain control enough of the land and materials from the neofeudal landlord cartels. Into a new postcapitalist commons. Private and/or democratized public sectors. UBI is great, but needs to be paired with lowered rent caps, or else price-gouging will continue to just decimate people's spending power. UBA... Universal Basic Access/Assets seems even more ideal. Eg. Decentralized mutual aid and crowdfunding networks. Rent and mortgage strikes, bulk debt (eg mortgage) buyouts. Community land trusts and their bylaws can be customized to prohibit rent and resale, and ensure ecological stewardship, and also potentially paired with DAOs. Bots, fabrication tools, community spaces, and systems can be shared in local/global modular gifting/sharing/replication networks.

Anyone else get the sense that the folks sounding alarms about a.i. the most are those with the most to lose? Same people who can't put forward a coherent argument for returning to office? Am I taking crazy pills? I see a bunch of billionaires playin some kinda king of the mountain while everyone around me is still tryin to get rich by "focusing "on their careers. Heads firmly planted in drying concrete talkin about passive income streams. what the hell man

I think the opposite is true. Those promoting accelerationism and the rapid development of AI (the techno-optimists) are those who have already obtained a privileged status in society by way of technological development. These are the Sam Altmans, the Mark Andreesens, etc. They are rich because of tech, therefore they inherently think that tech improves the lives of everyone. Those who are skeptical of AI are often those who have more experience with the groups of people who have not benefited from tech advancement, or are at least aware of the fact that tech advancement does not inherently improve the lives of all people.

@@Steve-xh3by Fair enough, I'm sure there's plenty of evidence for the Executive Types attempting to push their agenda' for a.i. into the broader public space. But they seem to be playing both sides. I find a proportionate evidence of their push for "safety" through legislative measures (king of the mountain). Unfortunately, I'd also argue the broader public's got almost no influence with almost all our skin in the game.

Really insightful. Listening to this while i work and they both move pretty fast so it's a little tricky to digest it all. But good stuff. That makes me wonder... On a human level these two are in the top umpteenth percentile in their knowledge and ability to communicate on this subject. But will AI and it's limitless advancement reach places where it communicates so quickly and efficiently that it surpasses our human ability to continue comprehending it? Like if I play this podcast for my toddler he might be able to pick out a single word or two that may mean something to him and the rest is beyond his comprehension. Is that our future - are we going to be the toddlers in the room?

30:41 I totally agree with Dylan here, people always forget that you don't actually need incentive to do something. if someone is curious enough or passionate enough about something they will do it because they enjoy it.

In that case, passion or curiosity is the incentive. But an important thing to remember is that there is a very, VERY large chunk of the human population which lacks much (if any) curiosity or passion: low IQ people. This isn’t meant to be racist or sexist either (there’s low IQ people of all races and genders, the entire lower 50% of the IQ bell curve). But we all know people who, if given UBI and didn’t have to work to survive, they wouldn’t do anything good with it. At best they’d just be aimless and do nothing, and at worst, they’d just wreak havoc having so much free time. I think intelligent, motivated, passionate, and curious people often forget that not everyone thinks the same way they do. It would be amazing if all humanity was like the upper half of the bell curve, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case.

Instead of fearing complete replacement, it's wise to focus on understanding how AI will change the nature of work and prepare by developing skills that complement, rather than compete with, our robot counterparts.

Not just for the reasons you mulled over, Dave, but also because even if they aren't particularly enlightened or benovolent, there's nothing we have or Earth has that they would want that they couldn't get easier in millions of other places without the hassle of dealing with humans.

I wonder how AI could make construction site workers life easier in near future.. maybe some device to talk with the AI and it could calculate and estimate alot of the work..?

TLDR: Automated systems without AI can and do already improve some aspects of construction. The scaffolding for automation exists but AI won’t become more useful until it can take reliable independent action in apps (like auto cad). The next step after is robots and drones that can do the necessary physical work on site. A lot of engineering firms (civil and related) are using drone scans to do surveys. If we can get a pretty good auto generated cad (which I think happens as soon general ais can act independently in apps and produce good outputs -

There's no "policy" or law that can just delete human nature. He should know by now that you don't try to change it. It will ruin you. You channel it. So if there's an innate human desire for status, you create an artificial way to get that status. And it seems difficult and legit, and whoever makes the cut gets the status. Whatever that might be. You let them feel as special as they want to feel, as long as they don't trample anyone else's rights.

Hello Fellow Humans, I truly hope we become a Star Trek type civilization. I am permanently disabled due to Bone Cancer and I can't walk without crutches. So I desperately want technology to advance so I can walk and be pain free. However I am guessing Religion will destroy us way before AGI. However if religion somehow doesn't end our species which honestly is way more likely in the next decade or two than anything else. But I would not be surprised if we make the BORG essentially. We may become the BORG because we will use technology and then someone will want power and once you connect two humans together they will connect a third then a fourth then it will become everyone. World war 3 or civil war 2 in the USA will happen before 2040 and honestly I think if Trump doesn't win his MAGA cult will start the civil war 2 in 2025. But if that doesn't happen then world war 3 will happen. Long before AGI destroys us. I truly hope it doesn't and I hope we have something like full dive technology. Humans could work together. We could get rid of boarders. We could all speak English. We could feed everyone. We could house everyone. We could educate everyone. If we worked together as a globe then we would be so much more advanced. We could cure cancer or aging or whatever. But again religion breeds hate and tribalism. Look at the middle east and who has been fighting for over 2,000+ years. It's always religion. We need to unite or we will destroy ourselves.

Will UBI actually work, long term tho? Argumentative, it's been said that on avg we already live much better than say 100 years ago. I don't necessarily agree with the statement, but others do. If we take 100 year ago as the absolute benchmark, then 1. People living in those same conditions should have no additional complaints, because their situation hasn't changed; 2. Ppl of today, livong in today's standards but are in the 'without' camp shouldn't complain because they have it so much better than those living at the -100 yr level. Those who are enriched by today's standards have no complaints because they have it all. They have it all primarily because they provide economic value beyond the average. Economic value affects everyone, and I have no problem with the above. The problem I have is when it is done at the expense of others. Getting ahead, while simultaneously holding others back. Playing by the current rules, but keeping others in an outdated rule set. Esp, when it doesn't have to work this way, or rather esp when someone has successfully added value without holding others back (eg. Musk). With this in mind, UBI is a potential answer for today, but about in 100 yrs time? Or in generations time? If history is any indication, the relative gap will become larger over time, and ppl will begin to complain. Necessity provides the drive for change. In the past those compalint would be heard because ppl were needed enmass to produce. Going forward that is less likely, and so the complaints will be less likely to be acted on. In short, UBI is a bandaid. Which is fine, if the entire monetary system is revamped before the bandaid falls off. Again, human nature is to inherently be held back by memory, so real absolute change is a low probability.

Long term? It wouldn't work even in the short term. It's simply not feasible at current price levels. We couldn't even afford $1,000/month. That's over 3 trillion/year. And when factoring in the lack of income tax bc no jobs to tax, we couldn't even come close. Only way it could work is if our prices were MUCH lower. Like building a house for $5-10k. a meal costs $1.50. And these prices are doable with AI. But getting there will prob take a collapse

The dream can be real mentality motovates ppl more than $. What the point of $ if it can't buy change? The influx of ppl with this intention, begins competition and creates a need for improvement and everyone levels up. Nearly everywhere else, only a select group have this opportunity and they know it, which eliminates true necessity and thereby real competition. This is why monopoly's are not permitted (, save for IMF, Fed Reserve, etc.) to foster change where governments want change.

Augmentation: Technologies often augment human work instead of replacing it entirely. AI can handle mundane, data-heavy tasks, freeing humans for higher-level decision-making and creativity. New job creation: Just as technology disrupted past industries, it will also create entirely new roles and sectors we can't yet fully imagine.

I think it is exceptionally naive to think that it is a good idea to share AI models with rival nations. The first nation that gains ASI, wins. Fulls stop. The CERN model will fail as the other rival nations will immediately defect. And they will have no reason not to when the prize of ASI is that great. While cooperation allows both to win. If we dont defect, we hand the world to those who would seek to be your masters.

I think it is exceptionally naive to think humanity could/would/should successfully centralize ASI and, moreover, mitigate any detrimental consequences of ASI coming on to the scene by doing so (especially when we dont even understand what makes ourselves sentient/sophont). A lot of nations are also essentially insolvent so working to centralize the development of ASI among them when they cant even balance a budget seems even more naive. The concept of money in itself is being forced towards decentralization despite them trying to prevent it so how are they going to ensure the same thing doesnt happen with ASI? Are they going to prevent ASIs (...note the obvious plurality...) from developing more ASI? Also,....define "we"...

@@TW0man4RMY we = Western centric leaders in ai development. There are two leaders in ai right now, the US by a large margin and China. And you don't need to be preventing it. You just need to be first and have enough lead time to allow exponential growth outpace anyone chasing you. My point is, it is in their interests to defect away from regulatory rules and decentralization if they are not competing as a great power. If they are developing to maintain dominance domestically there may be some token effort to regulate and decentralize as it doesn't hurt them and stifles foreign development. Either way I think it is foolish to "come together" with Nations and cultures who would use it against us.

Hey - just wanted to give some constructive feedback. As a long time follower and as someone who always looked forward to your new videos, this channel is starting to get very confusing. Webinars, podcasts, no more videos of you talking about AI breaking news, I'm starting to not watch/listen to the videos anymore. Just wanted to give you a total friendly heads up that the past few weeks I've been confused by the uploads. 1 hr 25 min is too long when I don't really understand the format and you don't provide timestamps or a description. I think it might be better if there was a different channel for podcasts and webinars maybe? Otherwise just maybe the channel isn't for me anymore.

I believe the new uploads were all previously paid content that was exclusive to members, but they voted to release it free to everyone, so he has been dropping older stuff while also continuing the webinars that were only for paid subscribers.
