Sauces can make or break a meal, and they can offer positive nutrition or change that healthy salad into a glycemic nightmare.
1) You may think that ketchup, derived from tomatoes, is a healthy choice. But most brand-name varieties are loaded with added sugar, preservatives, and many contain high fructose corn syrup.
2) Liquid aminos is a soy sauce alternative that's not loaded with sugar or calories, but it has an extremely high sodium content. This can affect heart health, and so it may not be a great choice for people suffering from diabetes.
3) Soy sauce, like liquid aminos, won't typically impact glucose levels, but it contains even higher concentrations of sodium. Thus, it can be hazardous to heart health.
4) Store-bought vinaigrettes and balsamic salad dressings sound healthy, but most brand-name versions tend to have large quantities of added sugar. They may also be treated with unhealthy chemicals, like caramel color and corn syrup.
5) Store-bought creamy salad dressings can also be overloaded with added sugar, corn syrup, preservatives, and can be high in sodium.
6) Avocado sauce can carry over the many health benefits of avocados. You can easily make creamy avocado sauce at home.
7) Vinegar is low in calories and carbohydrates. Homemade vinaigrettes are a combination of vinegar and olive oil - both of which can offer antioxidant and glucose-lowering benefits.
8) Pesto sauce is a combination of healthy ingredients - olive oil, basil, pine nuts, parmesean and garlic. This sauce is low calorie and low carbohydrate, which supplying a variety of beneficial nutrients.
9) Whole grain mustard is low in carbs and fat, and mustard seeds are loaded with beneficial nutrients.
10) Salsa comes in many unique varieties, and all contain healthy vegetables and fruit juices. Just try to make it yourself, instead of opting for less-healthy store-bought versions.

*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

Learn to cook. The originals that most of the “bad” sauces are based on are actually reasonably health friendly.

The best sauce for a diabetic is a simple pan sauce. Sear a cut of meat in the pan, over medium high heat. Meanwhile you microwave your veges. When the meat is done, plate it and cover it to rest. Turn the heat down to medium low, and add 3 tablespoons of vinegar or dry wine to the pan and deglaze the pan, and reduce the vinegar by half. turn off the heat and whisk in a tablespoon of butter. Spoon one tablespoon onto the steak, and toss your veges in what is left in the pan. And plate them. Folks, if you are going to manage your diabetes, you must learn to cook. The knowledge gained in learning to cook well, give you insight into how foods a re prepared. And what ingredients to avoid. Basaltic vinegar has lots of sugar in it. It is never a god diabetic choice. And, lemon juice is a very good salad dressing. If you want to make a vinegar and oil dressing that doesn’t; separate at home, add a pinch of agar agar.

Yes, real food cooked by me is what keeps my sugar low and blood pressure normal. Processed food and takeout foods are poisen

So if soy sauce and aminos are bad, what can we use to flavour stir fries and Asian-inspired soups? I know miso is also chock-full of sodium.

Thanks for all the information on different sauces. I knew some of the details in this video, but not all of them. Too bad Ketchup is so bad for diabetics. That is always a favorite topping for many foods, especially hamburgers(they say it is not processed meat).

There are some sugar free versions of ketchup, but as usual, remember to read the ingredients and see what they swapped for the sugar. Usually if they take away sodium or sugar, they increase the other one. The most important thing diabetics need to do is portion control. Know what you are putting in, count your carbs, and all non- starchy veggies are free. Mostly the green variety. (Except peas, many of those have more sugar than their other green counterparts)

I stay away from sauces and stick to rubs My salads I don’t even use dressing. I just give them some flavor but throwing in some sort of berry. Sodium is a strange thing. Too much will kill you , none will also kill you.
