@donziperk - Next time that happens, inform them that the 289 Shelby Mustang GT 350 beat the snot out of the larger 327 engine Corvette Stingray 3 straight years, '65, '66, '67 for the SCCA B Production National Championships. That should quiet their pie holes! 🤠 🏁

I have owned 289s since 1978. They remind me of a V8 motorcycle engine if they existed. They just keep winding up till you loose torque. I out ran my friends new 455 Trans Am with a 3 spd standard. My last build is a built 289 with a Reed Cam. Reed made NASCAR cams. It sounds like this on my street car. I out run Can Am 3 wheel motorcycles. They freak out.

@@pd2865 Look up a VFR750 straight piped. While its a V4, it sounds absolutely amazing.

I'm a Ford guy but the most incredible small block I ever saw in drag racing had to be this guy's 55 Chevy Altered. That small block 301 revved like it was turning 9,000! Frickin screamin but never saw it blow.....just ran its ass off down the track. Good old '60s @ Connecticut Dragway. Great memories. Dyno Tuned By Deb's !

Great comments, Allan. I'm a Ford man, but I appreciate all brands and engines. Too many just instantly dismiss anything if it doesn't fall between their narrow preferences. Everything has it's pros and cons, it would be a very boring non event if everyone had the same brand and engine as everybody else. I say to people to build what you want and enjoy it, there will always be something bigger and better somewhere! Cheers.

In my younger (less mature) years I WAS that guy that flippantly dismissed anything that didn’t have a bowtie as rubbish. I guess somewhere in my late twenties, I began to own up to the fact that there were OTHER manufacturers on the planet, and that they were producing some pretty awesome engines. I used to follow NASCAR closely, and for a while, I was a pretty big Bill Elliot fan. Since he raced nothing but Fords, a lot of my Chevy Nation friends just couldn’t get it, as to why I would jump ship so to speak. Well , I never “jumped ship”, all I did was recognize a tremendously successful racing program, that just happened to be racing Fords. After that, I was a lot more open to other manufacturers, and was quick to acknowledge any one that could present a high performance ride, regardless of the make should get the kudos that they deserved Some twenty years ago, my eyes were opened about the Japanese cars on the drag strip. The Toyota 2JZ engine for instance, is an incredible performance engine, that can be built to over 2,000 HP. I’d call that amazing. At the strip these cars are highly respected, and beat cars with much large displacement engines on a fairly regular basis. Well enough of my ramblings. I appreciate your comment. God bless.

Ford owns desert racing. Most class wins, overall wins, and complete wins at the Baja 1000 for cars, and has the only street legal desert truck lineup that can actually last in the desert (the TRX isn’t that good in the desert).

@@The-fs5wn I don’t know much about This style of racing, and what is what, but what little I’ve seen, it’s just about as crazy a rally racing, but with lots of sand and rock. I know that about a year ago I was watching a demo of a truck with a Yates Ford SCREAMING around a course, kicking 10k revs and sounding like hell had been let loose. To say that it was awesome wouldn’t be just. It was mind boggling how fast It got around the course, and the sound was absolute eargasm.

⁠@@allanpolk2681it’s crazier than rally racing. I mean, the Trophy Trucks have 30 inches of suspension travel on both ends and each one of the 8 shocks costs a quarter million dollars. These things go flying way higher than any rally car ever will on a regular basis.

That would be a cool build! I’ve got a 331 stroker in my Mustang (302 Windsor base) and it’s such a great motor. I want to eventually do a 351W build, as they share alot of parts with the 289/302 blocks but can take more HP.

The X pipe just seems to work nice with some combinations. You usually put them where ever they will fit, sometimes that just seems to be just the right spot in relation to the types of headers, exhaust valve opening, etc. Thanks for the feedback, it's the positive comments that keep me interested in posting. Cheers, it's definitely got a sound all of it's own. Nothing that special in the exhaust, 4 into 1 headers, X pipe cross over and twin 3" pipes exiting both sides of the Car. I'd love to hear this thing with an 8 into 1 set up, but it sounds fairly exotic as is!

@@Mr357Cleveland That's wild. Your X-pipe must be mounted at the perfect distance from your merge collectors to bring out those higher frequencies. I wouldn't change a thing.

I’m gonna hafta go film a couple laps and see what I think from outside the car (no one drives it but me so I haven’t heard it objectively yet) I’m not getting much over 5600 rpm and you’re probly what 7k? I’m thinking mines gonna bark more than scream, but either way, when I put my toes in it, I do know where my $ went…lol very nice car my friend.

Try listening to an original 289 Daytona Coupe and you'll swear it's a big block!

If you imagine a handheld loudspeaker 📢, it's similar to that. It's basically just a large funnel on the end of the pipe. It makes the sound even better than with just a straight exit. Cheers.

It's all in the parts and prep. The balance of the rotating assembly with good rod bolts, pistons etc. You also need a big duration Camshaft with enough support on the induction and exhaust side to make it worthwhile taking it there. When you do they're a beautiful thing and are capable of over 7600 rpm. Cheers

@@Mr357Cleveland It would be amazing to just get a glimpse of the specs. on your build.. Compression, heads, induction, camshaft (Don't need valve timing events, just duration @ .050", LSA etc.). Sounds absolutely amazing!
