There are myths out there about which foods are rich in iodine and which are not. Some people think potatoes are a rich source of iodine (NO). Here is a list of 7 Iodine Rich Foods that taste great, are full of other nutrients, and are easy to find.
I'd rather you not supplement at all, so add as many of these foods as you can to your diet. There is NO research showing an iodine overdose from eating iodine rich foods. Your brain, glands and every cell in your body needs you to eat plenty of iodine rich foods.

My state, South Carolina, used to be known as the Iodine State. That was its official nickname. It was because the lower half of the state, where lots of farming occurs, was at one time covered by ocean, and the soil in that area is still incredibly rich in iodine and transfers the iodine to the crops grown in that soil.

@mchrysogelos7623
@mchrysogelos7623 2 жыл бұрын
I also heard (not sure where) that the iodine in the salt evaporates and releases into the air over time and after opening. so it is almost useless. Most of what the "government" tells us and does (without our permission) is USELESS and even possibly harmful! People used to eat full-fat foods all the time and when I look back at most people prior to 80's, 90's, etc. they didn't have the weight problem we see now. Granted - many things contribute to this, but it can also be a cycle: cut out good stuff, people eat bad/empty foods and crave more, they continue eating bad stuff which packs on the weight and keeps starving them. I generally don't listen to what "medical folks" tell us. Especially when one year coffee aspirin, etc. etc. are bad and then suddenly the next year or so, they are good. blah

Yah, red meat or any meat is bad, eggs bad, butter bad, cream bad but be sure to eat carbs in any and every form. Yah, look at how well that turned out. I’ll go to Dr B any day, or a doctor he recommended. But 99% I do not trust. I blame my sisters Dr for her death because she had cancer and told her she could eat whatever she wanted, just don’t drink soda😳. Stage 4 cancer and don’t drink soda. That’s not all of it but that was the last brain fart from him before she died. I genuinely believe most Drs don’t give a shite about their patience. But I know Dr B does.

@belleray2 3 ай бұрын
@@CentralTexasPuppies I take it orally, 10 drops from an eyedropper in a large cup of warm water first thing every morning. Just sip it as you would a cup of coffee. It doesn't taste bad and the protection you are receiving is huge. If you are new to Lugol's start off with 3 or 4 drops, then slowly work your way up. Really beneficial for females especially. If you are looking for topical protection or a cure for skin infections, scratches, cuts, pimples or any damage to the skin that is of risk of becoming infected, iodine tincture is the way to go The tincture is 2.5% iodine and 2.5% Potassium iodide. A pharmacist will make these up for you on request. I have been taking it once daily for well over 30 years and I put my good health down to iodine ( plus real food)

Thank you for an information and iodine rich video :) My father told me when he grew up, near the coast, the family had one cow, some sheep and some chicken. He learned early to go out fishing and they ate lots of fish. My grandparents was the first generation Finns that moved to north Norway because of food scares in Finland in the 1880. They used seaweed as food for the animals, and I remembered my father telling me how happy the animals was when they got cocked fish for dinner. And my father loved the raw milk that tased a bit oceany ( is that a word?) I wish I had that upbringing, but now it's illigal to sell raw milk here in Norway and it was not possible to live where my father grew up, he had to be near a job earning money for living.

I apply iodine topically. I feel very certain that masses of individuals, especially those living inland, are iodine deficient. In the 90s people began shifting away from iodized salt to sea salt. This has possibly made the situation worse.

To my understanding, sea salt is naturally rich in iodine that is added to mineral salt (henceforth iodized) that has less or none.

@@musamusashi Well, if you haven't yet, research it. Maybe there's different information out today, but when I have researched it before, what I find is that they don't know how much iodine is there, but in many cases it may be none. I suppose it may be like how iodine levels in seaweed can vary widely from batch to batch, and they don't really test for it. Not much information is available on any of this, unfortunately. At least as far as I could see. Please post a response if you find good sources of info that help on this topic.

@@SG-js2qnthanks, i stand corrected. I just assumed iodine would be high, because of the sea factor, but it actually seems that Himalayan salt has the highest content. I still always try to get my nutrients from the foods they are naturally present in, rather than from foods those same nutrients are added to. Good we use Himalayan salt regularly beside eating a good amount of sea food.

Dr. Berry, how did you arrive at determining what supplement was best for you? I'm astounded by the variety of products that are available, the forms of nutrient available (Iodine, Iodide, combinations of the two), and the advertised sources for the ingredients. Would you consider making a video that discusses the metabolic pathway of Iodine uptake in the body & how the Adrenal gland uses it? Perhaps include mention of TSH and the delicate balance that exists between it and Thyroid hormones? Thank you so much for your work. I'll give the J. Crow product you recommend a go in the meantime.

I’m following a keto diet, or at least my early in this journey. Is metformin a helpful rx.? Is fasting for 24-36 hours 1-2x per week? Thx again for your sharing.

I have kidney failure (not disease) from being poisoned. My diet is heavy in nuts, mushrooms and coconut. I also like some seaweeds soups that they have in health foods. I think nuts have iodine because of very deep roots and many are grown in california, near the ocean. Some mushrooms have very high amounts. Coconuts help with the balance of fats that is natural. Hazelnuts - one of my favorite (the nut not the processed stuff). I also use the pink salt from Real Salt Himalayan.

It varies with age, activity, and person. Older people need more protein, and may need levels approaching that of body builders. Some people thrive on a plant based diet, and others thrive on a meat based diet. I am 67 years old and thrive on a meat based diet. My target is 0.8 g of protein per pound of ideal body weight. Grams of protein are not the same as grams of meat. An example is 100 grams of rib eye steak no visible fat eaten contains 30.7 grams of protein. So rib eye is around 30% protein. Most of the weight is actually water. You need as much protein as it takes to satiate you, give you good energy, and make you feel healthy. There are as many opinions about how much protein to eat as there are people with opinions. This is mine.
@someguy43210
@someguy43210 5 жыл бұрын
@@bnsgokugreat It depends on various factors, such as your weight, metabolic health, genetics, and physical activities. The advice telling people to restrict protein is wrong, it's not a problem when combined with intermittent fasting and low carb. See Siim Land video title Methionine Restriction and Longevity. He eats significantly more protein than the recommendation, yet his insulin and IGF1 levels are lower than people who eat low protein, but he eat in a 2-4hrs window, low carb meals, and work out. Carb raises insulin and IGF1 more than protein. Protein does seem to need to be restricted if you have existing cancer. Too low IGF1 is associated with cancer mortality and too low insulin is associated with shorter life span. So there is a sweet spot, health is not about restricting everything all the time.

The Irish are known to be big consumers of potatoes and I'm sure that potatoes grown in Ireland are loaded with iodine because it's an island nation. Also, Irish cattle, cheese and milk should have good iodine in them as well - even the grain fed cattle. Iodine is absorbed by the lungs if it is available in the breeze that wafts in off the ocean spray. Japan produce is loaded with iodine too, I would say.
