I've heard lots of rumors on the difference between these two rounds, but I haven't seen any definitive testing. This is part one, but I'd like to verify my results.

Aluminum is cheaper than brass but aluminum expands more in the chamber than brass while brass expands more than steel. If the pistol will shoot aluminum then it will shoot anything because there is a higher probability of stuck cases and extraction problems with aluminum chamber expansion. Steel case is dirtier because it does not expand as much as brass and leaves a gap between the case and the chamber wall where carbon fouling blow back can accumulate and foul a chamber much quicker. So guns need to be cleaned more often if using steel case or chamber fouling will cause stuck cases and extraction and chamber feeding problems.

The only non reloadable ammo I buy, is x39, 54r and 22lr. everything else I reload. This brings cost way down. As a Canadian my components cost more, even so my costs are under 200 a thousand.

Now this is 8 mm Mauser man at his best. I've shot a couple thousand rounds of the aluminum and a whole bunch of the brass through my MP5. This stuff has been available online cheap for the last year at least. Blindfolded I couldn't tell the difference when shooting it.... But then I wouldn't hit anything either.... So I generally don't shoot blindfolded. The aluminum has two major advantages: it's noticeably lighter and that's important if you're on an electric off-road motorcycle or backpacking..... And it's not reloadable because I really don't enjoy at my age bending over a hundred times to pick up brass which I'll probably never reload anyway.... I just don't have the time. It's also typically a little bit cheaper for the aluminum than the brass. I've never had the case mouth splitting and exploding gun curse that I've read about but that doesn't mean it won't happen to somebody else. Don't forget to give us the overall cartridge weights on part two because that can be very important... ammo is heavy. Thank you Mr 8mm Mauser man. 😁

Everyone should pick up after themselves , even if it’s aluminum cases. Do better

@@guaporeturns9472 why? I like to see spent cases in the desert....do you pick up the lead bullets you shoot? what about the poop and paper if you have to take a dump on the side of the road? and we really don't need your BS hygienic advice.....but your welcome to pick up my brass before it goes back to the earth from whence it came.....I do better by ignoring your admonitions.

I’m glad to see that someone likes me getting way too detailed about the cause of a 15 FPS difference

Awesome…the small difference in powder weight would probably explain most of the speed difference imo, not sure if there is a difference in metal strength between brass and aluminum…would think maybe they load alum to slightly lower pressure for safety reason can also be since alum ammo is less expensive they’re saving money…or both…

I think so too. I have a comped pistol that Blazer Brass 124s work great in. I’ve got to try alums and 115s
