The first few records I'm playing this year include a bad pressing from Music On Vinyl, some 70's color vinyl, a Rocky Horror memento, Atlantic soul sampler, 1969 rock band named after a phone book, and an American disgraced in England!

I love that High School Confidential! has an exclamation point in the title, for no discernable reason. I saw Rocky Horror in a drive-in when I was 5 and was a bit confused and went to sleep, expecting a regular horror movie.

I love finding those promo label comps, much like your Atlantic one, even on CD, as they are great for getting those odd tunes you'd like to have, or check out, but wouldn't spend money for on their own. Nice little lucky dip albums.

The Killer! Love Jerry Lee Lewis One of the best concerts I've been to, and the one time he didn't show was still a great show, he didn't show! The Sun Rhythm Section his back up band, played. Most audience members left, but my father, wife, and I stayed. We were entertained by The Greats......... Stan Kesler, Smoochy Smith, Sonny Burgess, D.J.Fontana, Paul Burlison, Marcus Van Story, and the great J.M. Van Eaton! It was by far one of the great concerts. I was a little bum out the "Killer was a no show, but these guys rocked! We got to go back stage and meet them! I got to talk to Elvis' drummer! Dad was there and when I look back, will all I can say, yes it was the one I say was the "Best"!

I have the UK edition of Black & White with the 7". I usually can't say I have a 7" (my awkward attempt at continuing the joke). It has Tits, but it also has a great cover of Dionne Warwick's Walk On By. The Stranglers were like a punk Doors to my ears. Love 'em. That Yellow Payges LP looks neat. I picture the name was originally chosen as some kind of "ironic commentary," but then they went full circle and did the commercial, haha. I think those "evil lurking woman" songs were made so these guys could justify cheating on their girlfriends/wives. "But I HAD to have sex with her, baby. She was lurking around my door evily!"

As I'm old enough and English enough to remember it happening, I ought to point out that it wasn't that Jerry Lee was married to a cousin (his third marriage, and him still a teenager) that caused the moral panic, but the fact that she was 12 or 13 years old.

Persuaders: I thought I knew them, but it turned out I was thinking of the Persuasions, who were an a cappella gospel/soul band, active at the same time, both from NYC... That compilation seems like good stuff. I'll try to track down a copy. It sucks that some big label reissues are still sloppy... The bad work they do with cover reproduction is even worse.

My mother had tickets for that cancelled Jerry Lee Lewis tour. It wasn’t that it was his cousin that was the problem (marriage between first cousins is legal in the UK), the problem was her age.

I'll never forget when Twisted Sister released We're Not Gonna Take It. I was 12 and sick of everyone loving Quiet Riot's version of Cum On Feel the Noise. I immediately felt that TS had done drum opening, anti-establishment hard rock absolute justice. That it was an original tune (albiet with a Who song title), was that much sweeter. These days, TS are merely a tiny, but meaningful bookmark in my music fandom, i.e. still have their first four for sentimental value, but never listen to them. In an interesting twist(pun intended) I do break out Slade every so often.

Speaking of tits. Everytime I come across Found All The Parts by Cheap Trick. It never has the single sided 45 in it. I got that Twisted Sister album for my birthday or christmas that year. But this is a good example as to why I would rather check the reviews online to find out if the record is shot or not. Saves the disappointment. Those album promos are awesome. Not like they ever show up often. It would be something i would find in the dollar bin. Because no one ever wants these albums. Or maybe thats just the impression the store gives. I never see Jerry Lee Lewis records around here. But sweet looking album. Any chance that see through brown vinyl? I had a Herb Alpert on London that was. I remember as a kid seeing an ad for R.H.P.S. in the newspaper. Of course, I was thinking it was something related to Rocky 3. Cut to decades later. One of my favorite karaoke discs that we would just start at track 1 and play the entire thing. They also had a Purple Rain disc. How many Yellow Payges albums does it take to hold up the coffee tables broken leg? Oh yeah. Stranglers albums aren't easy to find here either. But I did find a 12" UK single not that long ago. And that's kinda what I have started my new year off with. Our local shop got maybe 1000 12" singles in. Makes me wish they had a listening station. As there is a lot of strange records in it. And i would probably want to check every single record of some unknown band/person that mentions any year between 1977 to 1986 that has a NYC or Los Angeles address on the label. In hopes that I find some unknown cool ass early rap song that has been long forgotten.

Yeah, whenever there's a bonus 7" involved, my experience is that it's only still there about 35% of the time. Another popular one is Stevie Wonder "Songs In the Key of Life". It took about 2 years of seeing that album in various places before I found one with the bonus single. The Jerry Lee Lewis was just black vinyl.
