There is one thing I like about this plane, how awesome it looks with the wings fully swept along with the fuel tanks and 9ls/7temps

Part of what i like about the tornado is that it actually feels like a real plane and not some magical 14g pulling spaceship like a lot of top tier aircraft

The Tornado really represents me besides the British part, fat, slow, and if I go too fast I tumble over (wing tear). I am also super anti-social so if someone gets too close I slow down due to social anxiety (compression). I’m also outdone by literally everyone else.

I love how this plane is only .3 higher BR than the IDS now. It has like 4x the countermeasures, 2x the 9L's and pretty good radar missiles... there seems to be little to no rhyme or reason behind a lot of BR's.

Spit, I've never been able to put my finger on what gives me this feeling until now. Thank you. The feeling when flying a plane that no where meets the meta yet still finishing amongst the meta vehicles at your BR is quite the dopamine rush.

For me the biggest weakness of the F.3 is the radar, it really struggles to lock simple targets even in the most opportune conditions and I've even had it be defeated by flares before. Whilst the Tornado is an absolute bus, they've also kinda messed up the lift characteristics of the plane as it does have a lot of fuselage lift which Gaijin has completely ignored, making it even more wallowy and slow than it should be.

The communities reaction to the tornado is really funny but confusing to me. I was and remain a big fan of the tornado in game, mostly because I like the top tier bomber play style and because the thing is just so fucking cool and also pretty successful in real life. However with other people it seems funny to me. People used to talk about it a lot, always asking when the Tornado would come, 4th gen swing wings when? etc… but like, it was always a bomber/interceptor and was never really likely to be super successful in war thunders current meta, except in a fast jet bomber/throw missiles at long range support fighter. Yet people seemed shocked when this was the case, but I feel like this should’ve been obvious from the start, if you knew anything about the plane. That’s not to say it’s not Gajins fault, they deliberately nerfed the plane, especially the British ones for some reason, and it would really excel in an Enduring confrontation only air RB game mode which of course doesn’t exist. So a lot of the reasons it doesn’t do so well are due to the game, but knowing about what the plane was good at irl should’ve prepared people for what the plane would be like in War thunders meta. So it’s funny to me that people were talking about it and excited , but then just uninterested when the obvious factors came into play.

It is the same feeling I got from spading every single french ww2 prop. There's just a certain charm of flying a cr.714 or an ms.410. And getting kills with those is the best feeling ever

Apparently it's underperforming, shouldn't be a great dogfighter but I heard it was able to keep up with a tomcat in a dogfight until it eventually ran out of energy. Wouldn't be surprised if it was gimped because it does feel a bit too exaggerated in all the wrong ways.

i love the F3 in sim battles as im able to make full use of the radar, people cant hide from me. and ive been able to win many dogfights in it

This is literally my thinking with the Tornado IDS. It got moved up and it's atrocious how 50/50 playing it is. You're either going to do poorly, or you're going to bite and scratch to even get one or two kills. And I love it, it gives me a run for my money. The tornado is so beautiful in looks and I'll always come back to it.

On the Pyrnesse game, however you spell that map, you played the tornado how they would fly irl. U, the tornado have the radar and radar missiles and have a manoeuvrable team mate beside you. Britain would use Tornado, Hawk combos at Red Flag which made them absolutely dominate.

I love the F3, such a good looking aircraft. The recent buffs are a welcome addition. The only thing I don't like is your AIM9s fire off both left wing first, so when you're left with only 2 missiles (such as 13:25), if creates a real unbalance in the wings due to the right wing having the weight/drag of 2 missiles, with nothing on the left. It should fire off alternating wings.

That's what happens when you turn a bomber into a fighter.

Well the tornado is meant to be a fast strike fighters not meant to dogfight so call me at bed as a dog fighter is actually accurate

I still really want the tornadoes to get their respective cluster munition like the JP233 for the GR1 and mw1 for the german IDS

9:19 yeah, the plane was designed over the IDS, whose role was that of “fly extremely low at Mach .9 on autopilot, release bombs, go back home”. So, it wasn’t meant to have good high alt performance

Yep, it's addictive...I left. F5-C and F4-S from USA tech tree, to play Tornado IDS on German Luftwaffe Tech tree...dammit. sometimes I successful on base bombardment and get some kill, sometimes I die to F14s and Migs with their R27er

Tornado f3 is my favourite plane. AB Approach from side start with the super temps pick off oncomers from 10k or attack key targets such as 12.0 planes then when closer use the 9Ls. Then it’s literally duck and run, everything all while deploying 1.0s flares. I’d I get past the initial top tiers it is a killer but one thing you never dog fight you tun turn and kick ass

When people complain the mig-25 doesnt have a place in war thunder, i just ppint them to this plane, the tornado f.3 is a foxbat with swing wings and wow look, its in the game and If the foxbat ever drops in game, it will play the same way as the f.3

*Gaijin NEEDS to fix the Tornado F.3.* Warning: Rant incoming. Currently, the F.3 is unplayable. At 11.3, it sees everything at top tier almost every single game and it simply cannot even begin to compete in its current state. The F.3 still has severe bugs that hinder the already hindered performance of this supposedly top tier aircraft. As of writing this comment, the devs are yet to implement the Tornado F.3's proper radar variant. What we have in WT currently is a dumbed down subvariant of the early Foxhunter radar, when we should have the much newer, much more capable Foxhunter radar that would actually make it one of the absolute best in the game currently. But even with the current radar, it's performance is hindered by ridiculously stupid bugs. Bugs I have noticed as of writing: 1) When locking a target from TWS into an STT (to fire a Fox 1) the game will tell you, when you try to fire a Skyflash (DF or sT) that *you need a radar lock*, despite the fact that you definetly already have a single target track lock. This makes it impossible to fire your skyflashes, because the game simply thinks you don't have a radar lock, when you definetly do. 2) The ACM mode of the F.3 only goes out to 9km, which is pathetic in itself (the Phantoms go to 19km making individual target locking much easier) but the issue mainly lies when trying to lock a target with the radar, and missing. Sometimes when trying to lock a target, the radar tries to find it in a specific area. And if the target is not in that specific area, the radar (instead of turning back to scan) continues to try and lock something in that general direction. The issue is that you cannot cancel this action. The radar for some reason will continue to try and lock something that isn't there, and you cannot switch back to a wide search mode, and cannot change into TWS or PD/SRC. There are still MORE radar bugs that prevent a player from firing missiles, but they come and go as Gaijin pleases. As for the wings, I think that yes, the Tornado had brittle wings, but for the sake of the game, the unpredictable wing ripping at an unspecified and varying G level is utterly ridiculous, and puts top tier British players at a significant disadvantage. And this all would have been a bit more excusable if Britain were to get an actual 4th gen aircraft below it. The problem is, THIS IS ALL BRITAIN WILL GET UNTIL THE EUROFIGHTER. Top tier Britain will be utterly crippled until Gaijin gets its head out of its ass, and implements fixes to the Tornado F.3 that actually make it at least somewhat competitive against top tier planes like the F-16, F-15, F-14, MiG-29, Su-27 and whatever other planes Gaijin will add in the following years. Rant over.

I got a gun kill after a pretty drawn out dogfight against one of these in the German F-104G. I’d feel confident dogfighting it in an early phantom too. That’s how poorly this thing turns. It makes up for it with the good avionics and missiles. Coming from the FGR.2 I can use the Tornado F3 fairly effectively… but fuck I agree. It’s a brick with wings. You’ve really got to know how to position well and do your best to keep your 6 clear.

since the new economy things with compensation ive finally been able to enjoy this plane without having to worry too much about losing sl. always wanted to fly this plane in war thunder so now that i can do it without a huge threat to my sl balance is godly

I spaded the event tornado in air rb and used to have a good time running to bases getting two of them destroyed and pulling off behind the enemies lines and onto their sixes firing off my aim9Ls off the rails and getting two easy kills as I’m headed back to base lol

This resonates with me, I have the premium Phantom but prefer the Tornado because of the sheer amount of flares and it's interceptor capability, the small city map is my favorite, flying low on the city street before turning on the tails of the strike aircraft too focussed on base bombing. Definitely not a turn fighter!

First of all, a reminder that this is the same BR as the Tornado IDS, a plane with no radar, no radar missiles, half the IR missiles, and far fewer countermeasures. All because the IDS has GBUs... for Ground RB... which you have to grind for... in Air RB... That said, I hope Italy gets the leased Tornado F.3 in the tech tree as well. I know they leased some Skyflash missiles as well, but I don't know if they were the SuperTEMPs that the British one uses. I also know that Italy unfortunately didn't care much for the plane in general (which led to the acquisition of the F-16A), but it would be nice to have the ADV as a fighter alternative.

Currently spading the ASTA. Its limited AF. Lots of fun when you get a kill on a F16 or MiG. So bad its good. So ugly its beautiful. Might try for F3 after.

if you have the wings fully extended and full landing flaps with after burner, then the tornado will turn like a champ at around 700-900kmph, trust me

It’s a variable wing sweep plane, if you had to dog fight at lower speeds shouldn’t you have the wings out and maybe even flaps if you have to go real slow? If people can dogfight with an F14 surely this could do ok I would think.

Spit why do you use C-Scope radar instead of D-scope radar? I find D-scope is much better for BVR since it allows you to crank much more efficiently

You should try the Su-22M3 it can face F-16,F-14,MiG-29,etc.., could barely reach mach speed, cary only R-60 and only 12 countermessure

Most people just assumed “swing wing” and expected it to have a bullshit f14 and mig 23 flight model, where you can throw the wings out at Mach 1 pulling absurd amounts of Gs. Use manual wing sweep with this but don’t just throw the wings forward when you need to turn, it’s most agile at 70-50 % sweep at mach 0.9 and 85% above mach 1 easily pulling 9-10gs just be careful not to rip above 10gs. The wings will break around 0.84 fully forward, but at 0.8 with the combat flaps down it’s definitely not bad.

I hate facing this thing. For one it's got two aim9Ls that aren't much of a problem when you are going head on if you use your own missiles, and for twoth, it crashes the moment it turns, not letting you even kill it.

Shhh, it's "so bad" that it has one of the highest K/D ratio's for it's BR. Tornado = Play the plane like you should play a real modern jet... If you are dogfighting... you are dead. If the A2A does not get you... the G2A will.

I would say the plane is average, I do pretty well in it with a KD of around 3.5, you just have to play as a support plane and it works well for that I also think the plane looks amazing so i'll forgive some of its bad aspects

In reality, the Tornado is a low flight bomber plane, made for flight under the radar and has the ability to hold and use nuclear weapons, and thats the reason why its not good in dogfights, it is not a fighter !

Why are the tornados so bad in war thunder? Surely they dont turn this badly irl. I've seen them plenty at airshows etc and they seem pretty agile from what I've personally seen.

I just really dont get the people saying the plane's garbage. You have poor handling yes, takes a minute to do a vertical at medium altitude, but if you find yourself in a dogfight at toptier you've already made several mistakes. Went into it expecting an equally miserable experience to the Tornado GR1, but when you get past the stock grind it's super good. If you do it right each superTEMP's more or less a guaranteed kill, only sad part is the 9L's have been nerfed to ge ground and even with radar slaving they get insta flared, go after some random missile or decide to suddenly pull 90* to demolish my teammate flying 3km away. F3 almost feels as good as the FGR2 did back in the day.

The F3 was kind of a crutch because Britain could not build something as powerful as the F-15C Eagle nor could the RAF afford them after the economic downturn in the 1970s. Which is a pity, during WW2 Britain could build world-class fighters like the Spitfire, Mosquito and the Hawker Tempest.

I really like this thing for similar reasons as you do, but man, going up against Mig29s hast to be one of the worst experiences WarThunder has to offer. If one of those things wants you dead you WILL die, they just outclass you in every relevant metric

Play it like a F104 with wonderful radar and Fox1 and you'll be fine ! My WR in the F.3 is surprisingly high as well as my KD ! Spit brings too much fuel and doesnt use enough of 1st stage burner which gaves you more than enough for fights in any RB games in WT.. F.3 really starts to be nimble below the 10min fuel mark F.3 also get very surprising when you massively drop your airspeed with reverse and airbrakes ! (for shakenbake shenanigans) Full flaps control is also MANDATORY to fully extract all the potential of the F.3 at extreme slow speeds And yes, i beat some F-4, 23 and even some J-7D and E in this !
