Dear Fr Mawdsley's account of prison reminded me of the first memoir of concentration camp life, "Christus in Dachau," by Fr John Lenz. The first persons put in concentration camps were Catholic priests, in 1931. He writes of the horrors, but how the priests transformed the camp into a holy Mt Athos. Must read.

Dachau was first Nazi concentration camp in Germany and was opened in 1933 shortly after Hitler was appointed Chancellor . The initial purpose of the camp was for the mass imprisonment of Nazi political opponents. Within only a couple of years the camp also detained those that were seen as enemies of the Reich such as homosexuals, criminals, any clergy that spoke out against the Nazi regime and of course Jewish people. The camp consisted of 32 barracks and this included one for clergy. The camp held approximately 2500 priests and roughly only a third survived. There were many other priests, nuns and clergy from across Europe that were in other Nazi camps. The person that wrote “bull”. Can you please explain? Also to the person that is suggesting denial. Can you please explain? Thank you.

Father-while not in prison, my life was one of constant abuse. I found God as a child-huge Catholic family-most present in my life when I was riding my horse and disappearing into the hills and valleys and have my horse swim through the stream. Every time that horse carried me, and of course, the faster the better, I learned of God’s presence in my life by being able to appreciate the beauty that I was surrounded by and everything was beautiful and it was also physically real. It always made me so thankful for being one of God’s creatures. And for some reason, it allowed me, or He allowed me, to realize he would have died on Calvary if I was the only person that existed. Even though there are many scars from those years, I forgave immediately. I don’t know, maybe it is just easier to forgive as a child. I was also blessed to actually not remember years of my life, but I know enough good and bad. Thank you for your openness about your time in prison. I think many can relate to a degree.

Well, this is certainly a "mind-full" conversation, literally. Following an ongoing interior one I am having right now, concerning the value of offering up one's sufferings -- also with the gifts. As a convert from the Protestant side of the aisle, I still have to wrap my mind , at times, around this. Thank you Father for placing some light on the Path!

Have you come across 'the spiritual way' by any chance. It describes three steps towards greater union with God, the purgative, the illuminative and the unitive way. Dr Ralph Martin has written an excellent book on it called 'The Fulfillment of all Desire' which is an amazing resource to guide you towards the spiritual resources. Plus theres some notable resources on YT if you use the terms I provided in your searching.

I always felt something dark in LC. Like many I was pulled in by the music but something in me kept back from him while others immersed themselves in his 'voice'. The weird use of the Alleluia always bothered me. He should have converted if he was so 'spiritual' and interested in the truth.

Fr. Mawdsley, Great video as always. I was wondering if you know of anyone or maybe you yourself can give insight/information regarding the Neocatechumenal Way. I'm a traditional Roman Catholic who lives in New Jersey. I go to the TLM here. However, there is a woman who I have been speaking with for a few months now that lives in the Dominican Republic and she has been attending the Neocatechumenal Way for years with her family. I have done some research on the Neocatechumenal Way, but I feel like I do not have a good grasp on why she should stop attending that and start going to the Traditional Latin Mass. Do you know if anyone has done a KZfaq video on this from the Trad stand point as to why this is not a good thing to get involved with? Thanks! Dave

God bless you Father. Is there a connection to Leonard Cohen's emblem and Spock's 🖖 hand gesture on Star Trek? Is that Hollywood taking something with a dark meaning and making it mainstream?
@drstewart
@drstewart 6 ай бұрын
Leonard Nimoy explained in his autobiography that the gesture was something he saw as a boy in temple. It is a gesture of blessing employed by the Kohanim (priests) in Judaism. As Cohen was from this lineage, its presence in his emblem is like an element in a family crest. Very appropriate, hardly a "dark meaning." No need for conjecture when the simple truth is out there.

@ScriptureandTraditionFrJM Hi Fr Mawdsley, I know this may not be the appropriate place for this comment, however I couldn't find a way to contact you other than YT comments on this channel. I have learned a lot from you over the past months since I saw your interview with Kennedy Hall. Most recently I watched your discussion with the Avoiding Babylon channel and I wish to bring up something that I believe you are mistaken about with the hopes that you'll look into it a bit more. I believe your views on the Divine Will information from Jesus, as written down by the servant of God, Luisa Picaretta are misguided, potentially by a secondary source that has either miscommunicated or twisted the actual teachings. As someone who is also familiar with Kabbalah and other esoteric religions/philosophies, as well as the Divine Will writings, I must say they couldn't be further apart from one another. The writings on the Divine Will are fully in line with Scripture and Tradition, fully approved by the Church and recommended by many great saints including St Annibale, St Pio and St Pope Pius X (Pope Pius actually exclaimed that Luisas writings, specifically the Hours of the Passion, were Jesus speaking and should be read on one's knees. I actually just watched a short presentation on the Divine Will specifically for Priests and Bishops and will link it in a follow up comment. I pray you give it a listen and if you are interested in a more full treatise on the matter, I would recommend the book Thy will be done be professor Daniel O'Connor, or the Pontifically approved doctoral dissertation by Fr Iannuzi. I know you have a mind and thirst for truth, and wish to share that truth with other for the glory of God and salvation of souls. You will find no greater outlet for those qualities than from diving more deeply into the verifiable and true life and writings of Luisa on God's Will.

Leonard Cohen is referencing a form of Lurianic Judaism here. This is a more mystical view of theology in the religion, and it holds a certain joy and beauty. Were it not for the salvific truth of Jesus Christ, it would be a fascinating place to encounter God. Cohen often explored the conjunction of the sacred and the profane, the secular and the transcendent, man's passions and his imperfection or corruption in them. Jesus, in completing the Old Law/Covenant in His perfection, recontextualizes this mystical relation to God and indeed bridges it by His sacrifice as true God and true Man. While God is certainly no less mystical, because of Jesus this is now a mysticism we can encounter, touch, and take into ourselves via the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Viva Cristo Rey, now and forever.

Father Mawdsley, I have only recently discovered your channel and though I am not of the Catholic faith have found your talks both interesting and informative.However, I can not help but be disturbed and upset by the panting of the tethered lamb which is displayed behind you...may I ask why you choose this image ? I have ever had a great love of all our animal friends and being vegan since birth find mans inhumanity not only to other men but all Gods creatures deeply affectng and incomprehensible. The sacrifice of the innocents must surely be abhorrent whether the innocent in question is human or animal , I refuse to believe that a benevolent God requires suffering and death as a form of worship , its practice is an example of the evil that bloodthirsty and cruel men do in the guise of piety.
@ScriptureandTraditionFrJM

Nothing to be disturbed about. The painting is of the Lamb of God (by Zurubban, who died 1664). Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God. He went to His death meekly, like a lamb to the slaughter, He did not open His mouth (did not bleat, complain, accuse etc). So the lamb in the painting is a symbol, reminding us of Jesus' perfect love and fortitude. By His supreme sacrifice on Calvary, He put an end to all animal sacrifice (where human sacrifice was always forbidden by God). He calls us to imitate His sacrifice by dying in little ways each day (i.e. learning to be patient, not to be materialistic, to give alms to the needy, to fast etc). On rare occasions, having perfected a heart in love, God is pleased to accept someone's offering of themself in martyrdom. But no one can just choose this for themself. It has to be in co-operation with God -- it can only operate by two-way love. The world does not understand that. But Jesus is the teacher. If you wish to understand more about the lamb, you could look up Acts 8:32, and Isaiah 53:7. Anyway, God bless.
