Hey I don't know if we have any kind of audience overlap but as someone who became familiar with you through the hbomb controversy (an unfortunately negative intro) I think you've done a great job addressing this situation and I'm so sorry for the clear emotional toll it has taken on you. as someone who has dealt with plagiarism on my own channel recently it seems very transparent that this situation was handled in bad faith to capitalize on people who've already had the well poisoned against you from prior drama, and immediately demanding your patreon donations/contacting sponsors is extremely poor behaviour. wishing you the best through this!

I think my favorite thing EoT said was your two week old video has been causing her mental and physical stress for a month and a half. Very normal and rational behavior from someone who definitely isn’t a bad faith actor/cry bully.

I'm gonna be blunt and I hope this puts things in a helpful perspective. Someone else's trauma is NOT the fault of anyone else but the PERSON WHO COMMITTED THE TRAUMA. Period. End of story. I am a survivor of DV and abuse from my childhood. I would never blame someone for something THEY HAD NO FRIGGIN PART OF. The fact that someone would relate their abuse in the past to someone years down the line is disgusting and mentally deranged.

The craziest part is that she [EoT] deleted any and all comments questioning her claims. Every single comment on the video is supportive of her POV and sees you as the villain.... but it's giving me the impression that she's deleting anything that contradicts her narrative because the majority of comments on other videos are siding with you. She says in the video that she will remove harmful comments, but its clear she's going beyond that.

You wanna know why she brings up the childhood SA, the injury, your comment section? It's so the video can start with a big content warning including all of those things to make everything seem worse.

Talking about your reputation burning on the fires of your history and having food taken from their starving mouth are both examples of the type of over-dramatized things someone with Main Character Syndrome would say.

It sounds like she gave you less than 48hrs to fork over money to stop her from putting you on blast without even directly showing what they accused you of. That’s insane and you’re handling it better than I would.

Honestly Vangelina, I think you’re focusing on the wrong thing here. Ethel has no ground for a case of plagiarism against you, but it’s not because you didn’t properly credit her, it’s because there’s nothing of her’s to credit anyways. Screenshots of public tweets and tumblr posts are not something Ethel legally can claim as her content. Just because she took a screenshot of something Lily posted online, doesn’t mean she own Lily’s post now that she has a screenshot and presents it in a video. By that logic, she would also have to go after Definitely Bored Oranges, because he also used Ethel’s screenshots in his video on Lily three months ago. You can’t copyright claim screenshots you took. It would make sense if you copied her word for word from her content, but she doesn’t provide a single instance of you copying her videos script other than you came to the same conclusions about Lily Orchard. Paraphrasing having a similar opinion online is not enough evidence to claim plagiarism. And the fact the first thing she demanded after not providing any evidence of plagiarism directly to you in her email was money shows she’s not coming at this in good faith. It’s one thing if say a band claims music played in a video and claims monetization of the usage of their music, but it’s another to claim active plagiarism and say “compensate me or I’ll burn your reputation to the ground.” I get wanting to be credited for you work if you feel you’re not give proper credence, and I understand wanting your work to be financially viable and recognized, however, you cannot claim screenshots as copywritten work or plagiarized work because anyone can take a screenshot of something that’s public. There’s no artistic expression there to protect.

Alright, I don’t comment twice on videos usually, but this is a very strong one. This has to be one of the best defusings of a situation accompanied with a total table flip that I’ve witnessed on the platform. Most apologies come out with apathy, deflection, or emotional drownings, but this video is a complete reversal of that. You took accountability for mistakes you may have made (honestly they’re typical “mistakes” done during research), explained your side of things in a calm and direct manner, and you didn’t really fire back at the other side, considering what they’ve been doing to you. You’ve earned a new subscriber for sure, and this is a great testament to your strong character.

She got it from Gallade, Courtney, Brittany, Lily herself, etc. Speaking of Courtney, it should also be mentioned that Courtney (Lily’s sister, who arguably has one of the most important testimonies) reached out to Ethel to offer testimony, and Ethel ghosted her. I don’t want to speculate, but it’s looking like Ethel cares more about money than Lily’s actual victims

I couldn’t finish her video. Simply because of the random tangents about her past trauma and injuries. I have trauma. As a survivor of DV, I recognize that I’m responsible for MY own triggers. No one else owes me anything, and I certainly wouldn’t weaponize that against someone who has a different opinion than me or done something that offended me. There’s a place and time for everything. A video with accusations of plagiarism isn’t one of those.

One thing I'll give Ethel is that she seems to have put a lot of work into gathering information and doesn't seem to receive credit for it and that does read as potentially hurtful. But that's it. She has no reason to only single out you if your sources also didn't make it abundantly clear that Ethel was the source. And if she had checked your source list, she apparently would have found the screenshots while browsing the Tumblr blog, so she clearly didn't do any proper research into your video before launching her accusations. Which - as she is going after your livelihood - she absolutely should have gathered all information available to rule out any other possibilities that aren't plagiarism. I hadn't heard of Ethel before and saw a video of hers about the creator you are referencing here. She was going on and on about a tweet in which the creator didn't distance herself from a transphobic friend. Ethel's video was 5 months old, the tweet nearly 5 years. The creator has also apparently since cut ties with the transphobe. I haven't watched any other of Ethel's videos, so I can't really judge her. All I will say is that she seems to believe she is doing the right thing , but she seems to have a lot of anger and not a lot of understanding as to a) who wants to harm her or her community, i.e. who is an actual threat, and b) which battles are worth fighting and in which intensity.
