Getting up early in the morning and practising surya namaskar is one of the best ways to start your day fresh. Surya Namaskar provides all of the key health benefits in a very succinct package. The obvious advantage of Surya Namaskar is the workout it provides for the muscles, but it also benefits joints, ligaments and the skeletal system by improving posture, flexibility and balance. In this episode of 'Yoga and You' Yoga expert Keerthana from Rutland gate studio shows us how to do the advanced Surya Namaskar.

Ms Keerthana, I am also a regular practitioner of traditional Suryanamaskars, and I do 54 rounds in matter of 30 minutes. But your flexibility is superb, and the way you perform it is quite inspiring. I have never saw anyone else, including Baba Ramdev, doing Suryanamaskars so excellently. After watching your video I realise how much more I have to improve. Thank you, and pl keep it up.

Thanks Keerthana Ji for an excellent demonitisation of modified version of Suryanamaskar. Although I was interested to follow but it needs too much flexible body that you possess. I couldn't do much. I respect your way of teaching. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

In many Videos , Teachers Suggest tht it is necessory to keep ur knees n ankles in 90 Degrees and ur knees shd not go beyond ur toes, while doing the 4th step in surya namaskar...in here u took it well beyond the line of toes...just wanted to know tht such posture wont hv effect on my knees..

Pls don't buy any version of Suryanamaskar. Suryanamaskar was given by pantanjali rishi. Suryanamaskar has a pattern for reason. One is that it activates the chakras. That's y guruparampara is needed.

New-age Yog-gurus have an inkling that the ancient sages were a primitive tribe who had no sense of complicated (interesting) stretching. They have a confidence that they know better and hence they come up with new, interesting (?) versions with a view to supplant the original ones' pride of place. Once that's done, the westerners can further chip in with new editions by messing with the Original ones and thus can subsequently push claim of authority on Suryanamaskaras as well as other asanas by patenting them. Thus, they succeed in robbing off the heritage of India and deny Original masters their due credit.

Yoga is never done for flexibility.it is always about correct posture. Flexibility is just an consicuense of it. It is wrong form of suryanamaskar.

one question. 3rd pose I.e. after forward fold. i think left knee is not suppose to cross the toes. it will have strain on knee.

Hi Nishi it will look hard when you start but it will become easy when you keep practicing it. Start with 1 rep do it really slow follow the steps breath right. you can do it!

Honey, your knee is way too far forward in Ashwa Sanchalanasana (the fourth pose). It is usually advised to stack your knee over your ankle.

careful this is very deep backbending not necessary for Surya Namaskara, most people could not do this safely, neither should even try it. Hari OM
