Another idea for the leftover spices. You can make your own "candle". Very simple. Get a glass jar. Put course salt about two inches or one and a half centimeter. (it depends on the size of you glass) Next add water and put the spices in the water. Leave about three inches on top. Add oil. Cooking oil, olive oil whatever oil you have. Create a round plastic disk with a hole in the middle. Cut the lid of a water bottle or whatever plastic you are throwing away. Thread string through the particular disk. Fold it in half and the wick will be the middle part. Pull it through your hole and spread the string tails to either side to give balance. Float your disk on top of the oil. Since oil and water don't mix you will only burn the oil but whatever you put in the water for fragrance will warm up and fill your room.

Stuart your piano playing was just lovely!! The first time I ever had mulled wine, was when I first came to Tasmania in 1990 for two years to work. It seemed appropriate for such a cold state. As we purchased it, I have no idea of its contents but it was delicious. I was inspired to purchase a pottery jug and little mugs for "mulled" wine for home. I've only used it a couple of times since. I might have to try your recipe.

Well, I passed my 1st term of Power Engineering. I had to drop math because I was failing, but I passed physics with a 70%. One term left, than I am writing my 4a &4b to get my 4th class engineering ticket. When I am done the exams I will only need 3/12 months of steam time to be certified. This was lovely! Very much the way we make Glögg in Sweden. But if you want to be old school (Victorian) you get a hold of a sugar top, ie cones of sugar the way they were sold back then (we get them in some markets or specialty shops) then douse the whole sugar cone in a neutral schnapps, put it on a sieve or a couple of skewers across the pan, tun the light diwn low and light the sugar! The alcohol makes it burn like a bluish torch and melts the sugar down into the pot and adds a little burnt caramellized flavor. Very good! I would add a little brandy too. We use Pomerans, ie dried skin of bitter Seville Orange. And put raisins and skinned almonds in and spoon some in the bottom of each serving. Ours is quite alcoholic so served in tiny espresso sized cups or glasses and a spoon for the almonds and warm raisins. Of course I only ever made it with the sugar top when making for a number of guests, I too don't want it toi sweet, and it does have a kick to it lol! It's very festive too! A favorite bite with that sounds odd but is very good. Mix some good salty roquefort with some crème fraîche to a dip with some crumble. Put some on spicy crisp gingerbread. (the Swedish kind is dark and spicy and very thin) the combo is just bonkers with glüwein/glögg! 😋 Gotta try it, you won't regret it. Makes for a nice contrast to all the sweet spice and fruit. I'm devastated this holiday. Down with covid. After all that diciplin and luck all this time, the irony is complete. And the holidays for the dogs, figuratively speaking. No visits no festive meals, no schmoozing and I hadn't even done my goody-shopping for the coming Christmas weekend. It totally sucks. Locked in *after* lock down?? What's more I'm not even feeling that bad so I'm really restless and bored. I'll be celebrating in my black merino baselayer top to bottom w socks, over mulled wine, paracetamol and hot bouillon and that's that. I'll be listening to Winterreise and Bah Humbug. 🧐🥴 So it's SO lovely to see the cosy christmas creativity you guys share with us! I can smell the coffee and spices just watching here in bed! 🥰😍 Happy Holiday/Chag Sameach ✨⛄ 🐾
