My favorite band from 78-84....hit their demographic just right 12-18 years of age....whenever I hear these songs ....peels 40 years off of me ...saw them in 84 94 and 2004

I saw them with Sammy Hagar leading and liked that version more. No, I wouldn't say their demographic was 12-18, definitely not with Sammy Hagar, anyway.

Just occurred to me that Van Halen took their background harmonies from 60's girl groups, just like the Beatles before them did. Novel idea for a fairly macho rock band.

@@heyskipj Michael was astounding. Eddie doesn't get mentioned that much as a background harmony singer but he was very good at it. Those harmonies were awesome. You probably know this but Eddie was actually the lead singer in Mammoth before Roth joined. Roth said in his book that Eddie was "holding down the fort fairly well" as a frontman/guitarist/singer in a three piece when he (DLR) used to watch them play. Eddie could really sing.

They were as great as dysfunctional can be. The brothers could read each other's minds. Marc Anthony held the Line like a pro. DLR was/is a madman. Talented beyond belief but too much to handle. His poor, dear Mum. Saw them live several times, which is to say saw several different shows.....

Sammy Hagar was a much better singer for Van Halen and he he could play guitar well too but DLR was a great showman. Personally, I think the band made better music with Sammy Hagar.

@@davestang5454 really? You are funny. Sammy's agent, brother, publicist? Living on the resids? Saying Sammy is better than Diamond Dave is like saying Glenn Fran fire is better than Joe Walsh. Look I know you think that is an analogy, but it is a similar. How old are you?
