I recently got my first pair of Fatsharks, a used pair of dominator v3's and got the akk as my first receiver. while i have nothing to campare them to, they work just fine for me for my proximity flights up and down my city block in Brooklyn, NY as well as the park. I immedialey knew that it was the receiver on the right as i am familiar with its dvr breakup but the FPV quality is really good to me. I also did the 3d print with the holes in it and it works as well

I guessed right :) When trying to judge VRX quality by looking at goggle DVR footage, remember that the goggle shows full framerate (59.94fps NTSC, 50fps PAL) and the DVR records half the framerate (29.97fps NTSC, 25fps PAL) so static glitches will be on the DVR playback for twice as long as what you see in the goggles.

Great, point I had not thought about that. Maybe as micros become more popular the dvr manufacturers will create a better dvr.

@Nick Burns Sadly the quality of our DVR recordings may not get much better, check out AndyRC's recent video "AOMWAY Commander V1S", and read my comment that starts "Great review. On the 720x480 DVR recording, " along with his reply. Something else to bear in mind when watching goggle footage back (even if you manage to capture full resolution full framerate) is that it will always look worse than when you were flying, because you're usually so concentrated on the surroundings the camera is looking at that your brain is actively ignoring any static glitching.

licensetodrive - You are very correct and it probably won’t get better, not at least not until Analog is laid to rest and Digital is like 1000 times faster. Part of the problem (simplified) is the way current DVRs work with encoding the information with key frames and storing the different parts of the image from that key frame reference. Fast changing video means the need for more key frames, and a loss of key frame means the loss of the frames following that. Now add in the loss of sync from a glitch and you have got yourself a very noticeable video dropout. I’ll take 10 year old ADVR to any modern day DVR simply because they maintain sync and are much less “lossy” in their recording, so noise in the video didn’t knock them down like it does today, but all that power came at the expense of size and cost. Everyone want’s them small and cheap so what we have is the current crop of DVRs. But you never know what’s around the next corner in this hobby...lol

I have an old pair of v1 dominators I put the akk in and it works great for whoops running a ax2 diversity antenna set. This modules can be tough to say one is the best. Different areas seem to give different results. The akk is great if your gonna fly in a small area

I could tell before the static even started. Rapid fire add's a bit of a bloom effect to the image making the colors look a bit more vibrant.

Licensetodrive made a great point his comment and another reason why DVR's show more break up is that they are recording a digital sample signal which has a threshold level for the signal to be digitized. At lower levels, the sync is lost and the recording stutters until the sync is regained. The signal the goggles are showing you is a continuous analog signal which doesn't suffer from these problems but is nowhere near the quality of digital. For those of you old enough to remember the days of Analog Broadcast Television a distant TV station might still be visible but have a "snowy" image, but now with Digital Broadcasting, it's either there or mostly nothing but a blue or black screen. However, there are some cases where you will see a station with "tiling" or "blocking" during bad weather or due to some signal obstruction and/or antenna signal path disruption, caused by trees or tall buildings.

@@frankbarajas I have it on two quads right now, and only about 7 flights on one of them. So far it sticking well. It does feel like the tape I was comparing it to, time will tell how sticky it is. I always appreciate what you and others bring to the channel, in knowledge and items just like this tape. I generally have what I need/want but sometimes things escape me.

@@NickBurnsFPV No plans at this time. I do dabble and experiment but I need more items before I can have any fun. I was able to pick up a bunch of items really cheap from a semi-local market that sells amazon returns and it seems the small electronics like this get overlooked. Today was their restocking day so I hope to see what they have tomorrow. On Fridays everything is $10 and it works its way down to $1 on Wednesdays every week.

I suspect the DVR is worse because it flips to static off and on when it thinks there is no signal.

It dose look similar with true-d and it may came with the same possible short electrical issue that early V3 batches had in the past. They came out later with a plastic spacer between the boards to solve this possible issue and I don't see that spacer on this module. There is a 3D print spacer on thingiverse for true-d but I don't know if it will work with this module.

@@RayDockrey I was just saing that there is a risk for the button soldering pins to tuoch the bottom board and burn your LDO in your goggles. This can happen if you press to hard on the buttons. Only a few cases were reported on the true-d V3 and they have fix it. Just ordered one of these to use with my DJI v2 goggles. Any quad I own larger then 40g has DJI HD so this will only be for my Moblite6/7. Would love to get some HDZero and Walksnail goggles down the road but for now I'm limiting spending to let wallet cool off after this last months spree.

@@NickBurnsFPVLost a quad equipped with DJI HD on second flight with my best pack. Got lucky and found a replacement used for $180 with air unit and 2 packs so that took some sting out. Think the next wave will be more chargers and batteries until you post something else I "need", love the videos though.

No it won't matter, it detects the strongest signal and switches to that signal.

I always place the module on the roof top of my car, sometimes subjecting the module to maybe 200 degree heat. And after a hot summer trip, my RJX (likely use the same RF as AKK) started to give me prolonged blackouts. It doesn't give me the snowy screen any more. It is either clear and nice or blackout, nothing in between. I always pilot from inside my car so that no one knows who is piloting that helicopter. I need a military grade module. I don't care if it weighs 5 ponds including the coolant plumbing. But the market doesn't have it.

In layman's terms - you're recording half the frame rate via the DVR than what you see in the goggles. Depending on the module, dvr...etc...it could also be affected by codec, but the largest effect comes from interpolation and interlaced frames.

when oh when will we get a good true dvr. My crystal ball thinks the next version of fatshark goggles. The ball might to overly optimistic.

@@NickBurnsFPV I could see it, but I don't necessarily see them putting a lot of funding into it - I don't see the ROI. Now, that being said, I see independent tinkerers figuring out how to maintain the quality by interlacing the two video feeds before a larger company, but I've been wrong before.

The rapid fire had some hiccups???? The rapid fire is 5 times more and has some really big drop outs..... the AKK is totally worth it..... probably as good as my furious fpv.....

Horrible documentation but I've seen that on expensive receiver modules as well, sigh... Anyone know how I can control which of the saved channels it defaults to on power up? Thx. Otherwise it works fine, my LF receiver I normally use can hold an image for 28 feet farther than this unit.

I would try the goggles before investing more in external modules. I find the O30 internal module very good.

I wonder how this module's reception compares to the stock receivers in the Aomway Commanders V1's or the new Skyzones? If AKK can design and manufacture a module that can be sold for $29.99, just think how much Rapidfire is making on theirs at 5 TIMES THE PRICE! 🤔😳

the interface on the module is from one of the earlier True-D firmwares o_O either AKK is doin straight up theft here or furious is making some change off old stock or licensing

it is "old stock" (still made by AKK btw) with the usb removed. but you can solder the usb back though. if you can update to true-d firmware via the usb? i don't know, i haven't tried (yet)

there is no microphone on the module, but if the vtx has audio yes it should record that as well.

I have been running the AKK receiver for a few months, It performs pretty good but be warned, The screen is very fragile. I broke mine putting a cover on it. I am on a budget and got the Eachine Pro58 and it has better reception and seems more durable.

whoa, eagle eyes, when editing I had to make sure the file names referenced the receiver, otherwise I would have to watch longer to figure it out.

@@NickBurnsFPV I've been looking at composite signal standards a lot lately. Restoring what value represents "white" is one of those interpretive activities that a display/dvr has to do. Best guess was the more expensive RX that paid attention to stuff like levels, gain, and fixing up bias/coupling or even color burst would come closest to getting "white" to actually be... white. Analog composite has pretty much gone away, and with it a lot of the arcane knowledge. We're one of the few groups that still uses this stuff... If you want to have some real fun, throw both video outputs on an oscilloscope. $66 shipped Prime.

I don't recall as this was a long time ago. Generally we calibrate without antenna on the rx and have a powered on quad or vtx near by.

you can flash achilles on the akk. how to flash should be on the achilles wesite. (basically you'll need a st-link (usb device) to hook up to +5V and gnd and to two pins on the module to flash.. or you can solder a micro usb socket on the designated place on the print and plug it into your computer..

@@NickBurnsFPV no but it has a different shape goggle. The dominators are more flat. Unlike the attitudes are more curved in shape

@@Swooth If going from a box goggle to a slim goggle I would look at getting an after market skyzone o3x. With the 04x out the 03x will be far less expensive. Of course beware of scams.

@@Swooth Oh I see. If the akk is better it won't be by a wide margin. To get the most out of the akk we need to flash achiles firmware.

I don't see single one reason why sohuld i get rapidfire instead of this one. everything looks exacly same. eve nbreakups %90 same. can you please explain why i should spent 5-6 more for rapidfire if you dont mind 😁 thank you

@@alperenozgur I haven't compared 1 to 1 with the rapidfire and akk. In my gut I think the rapidfire is better but I can't say rapidfire is better $ for $.

@@alperenozgur The neighbors involvement is generally when its nice and warm out...so its been a while. Its also pretty organic, I don't call them up to come watch or anything.

Bro always use with Antenna. It can damage the device when nothing is connected!!!

This is true when the device sends information/data. This is a receiver of data and won't be damaged without the receiver.

Unfortunately that isn't likely something I can work out. And if I did try, it would make reviews 5 flight reviews with less quality and experience with each product.

My mate has this module.... Let me tell you it actually works better than my True-D. I am not a happy camper!

Nick Burns yep. It's running the latest firmware. I'm fairly sure this is the same unit tho, just missing the micro USB port. My mate was going to see if he could update the AKK with an adapter and flash to the furious software. However after seeing it perform there is no point. May as well leave it stock.

don't mess with success! I still run betaflight 3.5.7 for the same reason. :)
