For someone to create a character, and for it to evolve so much over so many decades now, I can’t think of another character that’s managed to span the length of time from On The Hour right through to the incredible autobiographies and audiobooks, and here we are in 2021 and still it all fits together. Genius writing, refreshed by the Gibbons Brothers so perfectly. Even The Trip ties in with the stage of where his character is. Living legend

I say it nearly every time I see an Alan video on KZfaq: he is the embodiment of a perfect comedic creation. Recently I read a description of him as a caricature. I can think of no other comedic creation as layered, deep, pathetic, bathetic...he's perfect.

That goes all the way back to the original radio 4 series. It's crazy how many great comedy shows originally started on Radio 4, e.g. Partridge, Mighty Boosh, Little Britain, and I think The Day Today, Jam and The League of Gentlemen, etc.
