Thank you for all you do for everyone Dr. Snipes. I'm so glad I've found your channel. I'm curious if it's normal that chronically sick (gut issues) worsen when leaving a household which is triggering CPTSD, and go to a safe space. Is it the body's release of previous stored trauma manifesting as physical symptoms? It happens every time I leave my parents home after long stay (months) and go to my apartment. After a week or so I always get worse health. As soon as I go back my body calms. It's been close to 30 years of emotional abuse and rage outbursts etc. It's so scary to be alone due to really severe symptoms closely related to MCAS due to histamine issues and mega dysbiosis in gut.

Funny thing is, it is this kind of sweetness that there is no substitute for me to help get my sense of self back. I got trauma from extreme criticism, rejection, and other non-nutritive treatments by my parents and teachers.

@@CynthiaSchoenbauer one of my biggest healing epiphanies was, that I took on, did to myself, the very thing others had done to me. It was so integrated in...that it took a lot of awareness, self witnessing, to see. I invalidated, dismissed, abandoned, betrayed, didn't trust, criticized myself...and didn't even see it. I took some awareness of my self defeating internal dialogue and subsequent behaviors/choices, to see "wow", I continued the abuse to myself. Not willingly...but as a learned pattern. As I've been learning to show up for myself, be my own "friend", stop abandoning (by having boundaries, stating needs, knowing it's ok Fox be to take up "space" in this world), has been life changing. I hope that you too turn towards yourself kindly, sweetly, and refuse to criticize/reject/ or any other harmful things, to yourself. May you have your own back and be bathed in love💛💫

Oh, I see how trauma gets brought up over and over again when you said we could pick our trauma, and mine was rough treatment and abuse by my father. If it was not resolved, then I would be afraid around all men... WHICH I AM! I don't feel safe around people in general, and it is both for being with them and without them! It's a kind of "can't live with them, can't live without them" kind of memory that I am trying NOT to be constantly "oriented" to. Sometimes when I take a sleeping pill I get better sleep that takes me back to when I was very young and had not a care in the world. This must mean that I have been leading a life of trauma coping. Thank you sooo much. Your very clear step-by-step explanations of concrete things help people almost self-diagnose something they have not understood but have been seeking every minute to understand (me).

Makes lots of sense how phobias are formed and how our body learns to navigate the world. Also how trauma can be ramped up or toned down depending on our relationships in the environment. If we can practice going into scary places with support or feel more abandoned if we display vulnerability to close relationships that are not supportive. So grateful for the work and relieved we can train our nerves out of some responses.

I like the way you like babies. I feel, in my traumatic state, that you would not yell or be rejecting of people who are not perfect, just like children who try hard but just can't seem to be. This points directly to my trauma with both parents who were demanding and punishing narcissists. My mother would criticize how I did her work (housecleaning) when I was a child. I became people-pleasing to contain my stress at the thought of being degraded on the job. I did better-than a good job and really knocked myself out and I got angry at "stupid" people who were STILL not happy and would find small things to criticize! I needed to confront them but did not have the strength of character because I was thinking NOTHING I did was any good. I am also reviewing ALL of your videos that have to do with parentification and also ones that have references to unconditional love. Thanks for being you as the kind of person traumatic people can relate to as they begin to expand back out into a social world. Learning by Catholic nuns (instead of real women) also caused an extreme trauma for learning and frightful public speaking response. And this was a sensitive little girl who none-the-less HAD loved to dance ballet in front of a large, appreciative audience! 🩰 I somewhere had lost the safety and permission to be a child and to be her own beautiful self.

@Doc Snipes Oh my, first of all the validation! And the knowledge that it's not something I'm just making up or doing WRONG. I was listening to this video before sleeping & did the muscle tension exercise before I went to sleep. I often do the box breathing anyway so that was a reminder but mostly this video was so much validation & information that I wasn't aware of. It really helps my self esteem because I tend to believe that I'm at fault for all of my issues due to my childhood issues. Knowing these things makes it easier for me to help myself heal. ❤️ And yes I will follow up with other materials!!

@@DocSnipes you're welcome. Thank you for providing all of this. Tremendous amount of understanding about the nervous system.. I'm not a counselor but just seeking understanding for myself, having autism and perhaps some CPTSD. I like technical things and this fits with how I think. I've heard about the vagus nerve from other video sources, also dysregulation. But like what you talked about in this video I think, about how different things in the environment can trigger someone who has been traumatized.

VIDEO REQUEST: Hey Doc, thanks for this video. Can you do a video on how to get your HPA and vagal tone back into working order? You talk about heightened / "on all the time" axis, but I have the opposite problem. I grew up with a very angry dad who kept telling at me to get things done. He was like a pitbull: consistently aggressive and always yelling. Always. To the point my response to things I SHOULD respond to is nothing. I feel nothing. My nerves are shot. Whenever I have a deadline I don't feel healthy adrenaline or wtvr to get it done. I literally feel nothing. And now that I need to find a job, I feel like my dad's yelling is in my ear and it's like a little electric prod on my nervous system and I get anxious and I just want to curl up into a fetal position. Anyway, how do I slowly get myself back up to normal responses? Thank you.

This is good information. but the corporate analogy definitely increases my emotional trauma because conservative-capitalism is destroying our country with massive wealth disparity, has already caused a mass extinction event, and is largely responsible for the man-made climate change that may very well cause our own extinction. I'll come back another time. I'm sure increasing trauma wasn't the intention here, but that's what it did for me. I'm trying to heal from this exact trauma. I'm mostly worked up though, because I have had an issue with the vagus nerve since I was a teenager. Ah well.
