i feel like a lot of people forget how manipulative and gross abby was towards maddie as well. all the pressure she put on her?? she was eight years old and had panic attacks because she did one wrong step in her routine, and all she could think about was how angry abby would be at her. seriously, she was eight and had everyone using HER as a means to yell at her friends, because she was on the top of the pyramid all the time, and a lot of the fights was around maddie getting solos instead of the others. like i cant imagine that did not leave a big mark on her. abby was not the same kind of bully to maddie as she was to the others, but the way she singled out maddie all the time certainly did something to damage her mentally, and it damaged her relationships with the other girls.

Totally agree. The way Maddie was treated was completely different from Nia and Pagie which she did get the other girls. How do you put so much pressure on a nine-year-old girl? Maddie couldn’t handle all that she just craked that emotional breakdown you saw I believe that was from everything Abby said to her. I believe when Maddie forgot her solo because she was thinking of what Abby said to her. About what she thought Chloe said. I think she said some other stuff that just wasn’t showing on camera.Abby needs to realize these girls can crack under pressure but she wants them to be this amazing grown-up dancers keyword grown-up when they are 8 some of my believe were 6

Abby also constantly took away her opportunities when Maddie was just trying to either be a good friend or not be arrogant. When Maddie refused to do a solo against that boy from Candy Apples, Abby took away her solos for a while - Maddie was just trying to give Chloe a chance. When Maddie sat in the parking lot with everyone else because Brooke and Paige weren't allowed in the studio, Abby made it seem like it was Maddie's fault for not coming inside, when she was just doing what her mom told her and sticking up for her friends. Abby makes her CRY and APOLOGIZE for these things. She was NINE YEARS OLD and emotionally manipulated. All of these girls had it horrible but people make it seem like Maddie had this great experience when in reality it caused her so many problems.

Some things: -Anyone wanna mention how some of the ALDC production people have been arrested for possession of pedophilic content on their computers? -Why is it not a requirement in reality tv with children to have child therapists? -Producers were constantly telling everyone what to do and say, especially in the way later seasons (to my understanding). -The moms had to stay at the dance studio because of child labor laws. -Dance moms was originally supposed to be a two or three episode documentary. It really should have stayed that way. -Also, because of this show, quite a few of the girls now have stalkers. Like actual, scary, stalkers. All because of this show.

They actually had a child therapist on the spinoff show, Abby Lees Ultimate Dance Competition (which is where they found Kalani and Jojo). All the kids that were under ten had to undergo a psych evaluation to see if they could handle the stress of it. However, anyone above ten didn't have to and none of the girls on Dance Moms ever went through that. I think a lot of the neglect towards the girls happened because when Season 1 came out, reality TV wasn't included in child labor laws.

She wouldn't let Chloe be in Mackenzie's "Girl Party" music video either. Riley The Poo & Me Too! racist is definitely the word . saying she can’t have braids ? saying she didn’t want a little tootsie on stage ? and the whole point like they said are those are the only solos nia got were because of her color and they needed someone black. maddie doing one berlin solo out of the hundreds she had wasn’t racist bc that wasn’t the only solos she was getting.

Something I noticed is that there were countless times that Abby called some of the girls gorgeous and beautiful. Paige, Kendall, Maddie, Kalani, Brynn, Kenzie, Chloe, and Brooke received compliments about their looks countless times from Abby (usually before she would put them down for lack of dance skills) but she never complimented Nia’s looks. There were times when she would talk about Nia’s hair and body shape negatively. She never once said stuff like that to the other girls. The other girls were always told how pretty they were and that’s why they had potential to dance but Abby never spoke about Nia’s looks that way. Nia is obviously a gorgeous young girl but I think it’s clear that Abby had a specific image of what beautiful was (ahem racism). Nia craved Abby’s attention and validation because she was the only girl she never or almost ever validated in any way. Nia saw the other girls getting different types of strange complements (still doesn’t make what Abby did to the other girls okay) and knew that she never got those compliments and we could see how badly she wanted them. Abby was emotionally abusive and manipulative towards all of the girls but probably more severely towards Nia and it’s so obvious why.

Chloe and Maddie are two perfect examples of what happens when you nurture a child’s talent and instill confidence in them, vs when you don’t. Chloe was just as talented as Maddie. The only difference was that Maddie was constantly praised and, as a result, lived up to her full potential. Chloe, on the other hand, was constantly picked apart and torn down so she always fell short of being great. The tongue has the power of life and death. Someone cannot flourish if you don’t speak LIFE over them.

maddie gave me brooke vibes in season 5 and 6, she was tired of competing and tired of the show yet she kept winning. the irony of that is brooke used to be the favorite before maddie, so my suspicion is that abby 100% burnt those girls out. she overworked her favorite dancers and killed their passion. she hurt all their passions, but maddie & brooke were different if that makes sense.

She even said that Abby could pick any of your kids and have said that you’re the next Maddie but she picked Brynn. But Jill said bad things about Brynn while Brynn was there. I feel like if in the beginning Ashlee wasn’t like that it would’ve all been fine.

Paige got absolutely destroyed for no good reason, she was always on the bottom but never given any opportunities to prove herself although she always did well when she got a trio or a duo. You could literally see her go from a giggly and happy young girl into an anxiety ridden preteen who just wanted her teachers approval. Paige Hyland deserved better. (All the girls did but I feel like y’all sleep on paige’s trauma the most) Also for anyone coming for her technique or ability. It was an AFTER SCHOOL HOBBY for her + most of the other girls. When Melissa couldn’t go to competitions, oh it’s fine have fun. Holly can’t come because she has work (which pays for abby’s studio) she’s a horrible mother

Abby literally said “I think it makes the kid feel bad” referring to the fact that Holly wasn’t there. It’s like no Abby, you berating that child in front of everyone because her mom had to work makes her feel bad -__-

Yeah its was horrid the way she treated holly. Like she had work to do in the early seasons to obtain a doctorate at university and she was berated by abby for working hard to achieve something that she needed to put in may hours of work a day to do. But when melissa wanted to go out with her boyfriend, it was A OK.

Let’s be real, Maddie was Abby’s favorite, got so much more attention, and got more practice than the other girls did. If I was the mothers, I’d be mad too that my child wasn’t being treated equally. I don’t feel like the mothers were ever jealous of Maddie.

Yeah but its not an excuse to go after maddie. They never even clapped for a child, thats just sad. Christi banned chloe from seeing maddie because of that secret duet but maddie was just doing what abby wanted. They were best friends but the moms ruined that by making maddie seem like a terrible person to chloe. Christi was really hateful towards the girls sometimes,(yelling at paige that one time). That's the only reason I like Melissa, Holly, and others who more then Christi or jill. They don't get the girls involved or say things to their face. They're also happy for the girls and they're accomplishments,( when Jill was calling Holly selfish for talking about nias songs and stuff.)

Jealousy isn’t the correct word. They weren’t jealous of Maddie, they were upset because of the blatant favoritism. But these grown women were completely in the wrong to take it out on her. She is a child who wanted nothing more than to dance with her friends. Abby did a damn good job pinning the girls against Maddie and when the girls didn’t bite, the moms did. I had an experience similar to Maddie’s when I played soccer and it was awful trying to play on a team knowing all these girls who were supposed to be my friends had parents who hated me. They hated me because of someone else’s high opinion of me. There is nothing you can do as a child in that situation and I know if left scars on Maddie.

46:50 Doctor Holly was the best mom on the show, every single time that Holly was arguing with Abby, Holly was ALWAYS right it was crazy. Abby just didn’t want to see Nia dance so every chance she got, she would take the dance away from poor Nia. Holly was the most mature person on that show, every time she would say something to somebody, she makes them look like an IDIOT. Abby knew Holly was smarter than her and was just jealous

The thing that angered me the most as a child while watching this show was how the mom’s handled their children’s “tantrums.” While having a severe anxiety attack or meltdown caused by extreme stress, the moms lashed out and were harsh, or they retaliated on Abby which only negatively impacted their own kid.
