Benji Marshall is the Allen Iverson of Rugby League. Came in the the sauciest moves. Side-step, flick pass, no-look pass. All never seen at the top level and changed the game. We all wanted to be him growing up trying to flick pass, side step etc..... The Galop move is called a 'goosie.' He brought that specific style of goosie into the NRL too.

Cannot underestimate the legendary nature of Benji Marshall. He made it cool for Kiwi kids to come to Australia and dominate the Australian league. He did it like he was a kid at school with his mates, playing around etc. Even as an Aussie, I respect the hell out of him; and he's one of those players and gentlemen of the game that nobody has anything bad to say about. A universally loved player, and a pioneer for sure. I remember the game he made himself known; it was against (my team) the Brisbane Broncos, and it was his first game (?) and he stepped around all these legends like it was nothing. Then all the kids at school were in the playground copying him.

Shaun Johnson’s nickname was “Princess”. Make of that what you will. Benji came back from 4 shoulder reconstructions. Retired last season. He changed his game from a young flash 5/8 to an outstanding organiser. Total opposite roles. Would not disagree if he was named as one of the Immortals. He’s going back to his beloved Tigers as an assistant coach next year to be mentored toward being their head coach in 2025. Outstanding guy off the field too!!

You probably know this by now but 6 (five eight) and 7 (halfback) are playmakers. But the game has evolved to the point where the 9 (dummy half/hooker), 1 (fullback), and even 13 (lock forward) can play-make as well. Structured or adlib eyes up football.

Loved Benji Marshall..... His 'bunny hop' was legendary lol....and he was a magician with his ball passes. The kindest and most gentle soul you'd ever meet too. He was shattered when his beloved 'Tigers' let him go...So he rang South Sydney Rabbitohs coach and asked if there was a chance he could come and help with the training team.... He was told 'No way, we want you as a player'.... He was an inspiration to our boys...they were all doing the 'bunny hop' lol and loving his tricks and were inspired by him. a true G.O.A.T. Another good review. I'll try and give you a quick description of the positions, they correlate to the numbers on the jerseys. No. 1 -7 are the backs, they are the points scoring, fast running, passing, kicking players. No. 8 - 13 are the forwards, they are the BIG MEN and will run hard and straight all day, not much passing, they are the engine room and determine game domination/momentum. 1. Fullback - last line of defense, kick returns, extra man in attacking line, runs the most meters in a game. 2. Winger - fast guy who sticks to the sideline and scores a lot of tries as he gets the last pass. 3. Centre - plays and defends one in from winger, fast guy with good footwork and passing skills. 4. Centre - as above, opposite side of the field 5. Winger - as above, opposite side of the field 6. Five eighth - generally organizes the backline movements (all the guys above) and is one of the in-play kickers (chips, bombs etc) to create opportunities. Fast runner, great passing skills 7. Half back - the loudest voice on the field, the general team organizer. Organizes the forwards (big guys below) for field position and is a go to kicker. Darting runner, excellent passing and kicking skills. 8. Prop/Front row - largest guy on the field, runs the ball hard and straight, tackles all day. 9. Hooker (middle of scrum front row) - plays dummy half which is the guy who passes the ball after each tackle (play the ball), quick darting runner, scheming player, works with half back, occasional kicker, makes 40-50 tackles a game. hardest working position on field. 10. Prop/Front row - as above 11. Second row/back rower - defends next to backs (small fast guys 1-7) runs hard and straight but is used out wider in attack, more mobile than front row. 12. Second row/back rower - as above opposite side of field. 13. Lock - a very mobile ball playing forward who will often be first receiver, run and pass to 6 or 7. Cover defense and a lot of tackles in a game, very hard working position.

Exactly his position is called "Half back/#7" This is the equivalent of the QB position in rugby league. Main play makers usually being the Half back,Five eight/#8(Five eight meaning the position in between the 5 foward positions and the 8 backs.)and in more recent time's the Full back/#1

Good analogy to say the number 6 and 7s, which are the "five eighth" and the "half back" and the point guards of the team. They are the playmakers. After each play the ball, the "dummy half" which is usually the number 9 on a team, will pass to either the 6 or 7 to initiate the play. In a nut shell: 1 is the fullback. They play a pivotal all round role, organising the defence and striking hard when they see an opportunity in attack. 2 and 5 are the wings, they play on each edge of the field. They are great finishers and score most of the teams tries. 3 and 4 are the centres. Don't let the name confuse you though as they are next in from the wings. They usually receive the ball and try to draw the opposite wing in to create an overlap for their wing to score. Also usually great defenders. 8 through to 14 are the "forwards". They do the bulk of the general hit ups and play in the middle of the field. They are also the primary line of defence. They are the battering rams of the team 9 is the dummy half. Usually does the most tackles on defence, and follows each tackle on offense to pick up the ball when it's played by the tackled player. They are instinctive players with high IQ, quick hands and feet. 6 and 7 float around and usually each will sit either side of where the tackled player is to give the dummy half an option on both sides to create plays.
