It's your man, Jeff Thornton, and I'm ready to take you on a journey through my life!
I was born on Holloman Air Force Base, NM, and raised in the beautiful city of Alamogordo, NM.
Growing up as the youngest of six kids, you'd think I'd have it easy, right?
WRONG.
My siblings were always keeping me on my toes, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Family has always been my number one priority, and I owe that to my parents, Captain Robert and Dina Thornton, for instilling those values in me from a young age.
Now, let's talk about my love for sports.
From football to hockey, I've always been a natural athlete.
I was even the “Team Captain” for my high school football team, which I'm still proud of to this day.
But let's be real, sports are great and all, but nothing compares to the rush of being transported to a whole new world through video games.
When I was three years old, my sisters and I decided to be helpful and clean our brothers' Nintendo console.
Sounds like a good idea, right
Well, we used WATER.
Needless to say, we destroyed the whole thing.
But that moment taught me something invaluable - gaming is more than just playing a game, it's about bonding with your loved ones over a shared experience.
Video games have been a constant throughout my life, bringing my family together and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
And that's why I'm still a gamer to this day.
It's not just about playing a character in a digital world, it's about the relationships and the community that gaming creates.
So, to all the gamers out there, let's embrace our inner nerd and never let go of that youthful spirit that makes us who we are.

As a Welsh supporter, Zammit is amazing. I'm absolutely devastated he's going. He has amazing acceleration, top speed, change of direction, kicking out of hand, and general space awareness. As a negative - he's very 'raw' and his guidance from our current Welsh coach (Warren Gatland) has done him the world of good, in my opinion.

I don't know about NFL, but as a Welsh rugby fan, I am gutted to see him leave the sport and to leave the Welsh Rugby team he was a great young player. but at the end of the day Louis has got to think of his future and if this what he wants I respect him for it and the very best of luck to him and I wish him well . As Welsh rugby goes it's not the best paying sport compered to other sports like football. Wales's loss but America's gain, may be one day he will come home in the not to distant future and put on that red top with the three feathers. 100% boss I absolutely agree and understand where you're coming from. I'm sure it's tough to see a player of his caliber leave the Welsh club especially this early into his career I'm hope he has an incredible NFL career so he can represent and elevate Wales and Welsh rugby to the American market. Rugby has seismic, fundamental problems. Since it went fully pro it has become increasingly defence orientated. With 30 big, fit, career athletes on the field there’s zero space for creative runners and mounting (serious) injury problems. Last year’s World Cup was a big wake-up call for the administrators: fabulous exciting runners (eg Henry Arendell) not even getting picked for the subs benches & ‘bomb’ kicking being the only option to make yards. It was ‘team sumo-wrestling’ with kick chases, period. The passing/running teams being comprehensively nullified and beaten. LRZ - a gifted young player with the world at his feet, and globally a ‘box-office’ ticket seller - has made a huge statement to the whole of world rugby: “I’m a creative runner with the ball in hand: I’m going elsewhere to find a game that can appreciate and prioritise my exciting, crowd-pleasing talents.” I’m a born and bred Welsh rugby fan, but LRZ gets my vote of approval. He’s communicating brilliantly with his exit. Rugby needs a root-n-branch rethink to bring back what makes the sport a wonderful spectacle… (PS: LRZ would look great in a Seahawks shirt! 🦅)

To be selected for the British and Orish lions. You know you’ve got one of the best athletes in Britain. His speed is deadly. His feet are great. Change of speed is nuts. If he gets bigger in muscle mass. He would be unstoppable. Bigger and faster than Metcalf. Imagine. But honestly I’m gutted to see him go but very interested to see how far he can get.

Yeah the NFL will definitely benefit by having him in the League. The international publicity would be insane! I think it would benefit all parties involved NFL, Rugby, UK, and US. This is such a unique opportunity to see a player of his caliber make it in a new sport I hope he has a lot of success!

Jarryd Hayne played rugby league and transitioned at the age of 29. LRZ plays rugby and is 22. He also runs a 10.4 100m at like 6'3 weighs 216lbs

hahaha that supposed 10.4 is total and utter BULLSHIT pal.... It was a fucking commercial set up to make him look good while advertising their product. If Zammit wanted to know how fast he runs 100 metres why hasn't he just entered any one of dozens of Open meetings held up and down the country every summer, where he could get a FAT time and put all the doubters (like me) in their place. Simple answer - the myth would get blown out the water when he runs a 10.9 or 11 flat.... And by the way - Jarryd Hayne was so far superior a rugby player than Rees-Zammit it's not even funny - and he was far more physical. His chances of playing a single play in the NFL are virtually nil...

This was a great video to watch, as a massive Welsh rugby fan I speak for most of us when in say that whenever Zammit got his hands on the ball as long as it was in an inch of space he was gone and no one was catching him. His fastest recorded speed in a match was 24.2mph. (2.3mph faster then Tyreek Hiil). Whatever team secures Zammit they will be lucky to have him. We're gutted to lose him as a national team.

Jordan Mailata was a rugby league player in Australia before transitioning to the NFL. He's one of the better Left Tackles out there, but it's not a position that touches the ball and he put on a ton of weight to be able to do it.

In rugby every player is a ball carrier though, so that shouldn't be a problem. The average rugby player is probably going to have better pure ball skills than the average NFL player just because they all train in ball carrying, passing, catching etc. whereas in the NFL, as you say, some positions almost never even touch the ball. There isn't a single position in Rugby where they aren't expected to touch the ball every game.

@@jamieellis4048catching a ball in rugby and catching the ball as a WR in American football are not comparable. Especially at the NFL level. WR (outside of QB) in my estimation is the most difficult position to transition to for a rugby player. LRZ definitely has the ability to transition successfully. I think the biggest challenge will be his competitive stamina. It’s a different ball game when the pads come on for a WR and is LRZ willing to endure the learning curve and physicality when he can easily go back to rugby and be a star.

It's great to see an NFL fan's take on this. They are such different sports that his difficulty will be in how specialised he will have to become. He can pass, catch, kick, tackle, jackal and has a great turn of pace. But he won't need to do the half of that in the NFL. Because of the nature of the sports, the strongest and fastest players in the NFL will be stronger or faster than their rugby counterparts. But rugby players will be better rounded athletes with better conditioning and broader skill sets. It's like having a 100m race and putting a sprinter up against a decathlete (not a perfect analogy, but you get the idea). So there will be a transitioning period where he focuses on maxing out his specialities, which could be up to a couple of years tbh. That being said, he's only 22 so has time on his side. All the best to him. I hope he does well. In terms of what team it would it be cool for him to play for. A quick Google search shows that Jackson county, Ohio is known as 'Little Wales'. A further search shows that this is Bengals country!

You're 100% spot on with your analysis! I agree 100% with you. It will be very interesting to see how he does and how he evolves as an athlete. Definitely with youth on his side and his incredible athleticism I'm hoping he has a very successful career. It'll be great for the NFL, Rugby, and Britain for him to succeed. I'm excited for him. I love the fun fact about Jackson county, OH! hahaha he would look awesome as a Bengal!

This is the best description of the difference between nfl and rugby players I’ve heard. NFL positions are so specialised that I think it’ll make it very difficult for him to cross over. Although to be fair I think it would be harder for an NFL athlete to transition the other way so good luck to him.

You make some good points, I would only say that Rees Zammit is not slower than McCaffrey, and not less strong. RZ has a lot of work to do to transition, but he has all the qualities to succeed if an NFL team will back him

Good stuff, QSN. I'm a lifelong Gloucester supporter and wish LRZ all the best in his new venture. Gloucester is a rugby city, the club is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Unfortunately, we are not having a great season (in fact, we have had a few lean seasons through the professional era, but we continue to hope for better). We do have a great history though! We are just one of a small number of teams who have always remained in the English top flight since rugby turned professional. We have a great support base and a very loyal (sensible) owner. A number of our competitors have owners who are prepared to bankroll their clubs (debt does not appear to be a problem for them), creating a league of haves and have nots. Keep an eye on Gloucester (Glawster)! You may decide to make this your rugby team!

Check out Nate Ebner. Started playing football in college at Ohio State, won multiple super bowls with the Patriots and made the USA rugby 7s team and competed in the Olympics. Truly unprecedented and much much more difficult to make top tier rugby 7s than tradition 15 side rugby. Nate Ebner is under appreciated for his accomplishments.

Not from rugby but Australian Rules Football, Michael Dickson of the Seattle Seahawks is one of the top punters in NFL history. Admittedly, he was scouted as a teenager and went to college in the States.

Christian Wade also a recent rugby player to attempt switching to the NFL. Though he tried a little too late in his career, I think. Had a few appearances but is back to rugby now. LRZ certainly has the athleticism, and with NFL-tier trainers/physios behind him, I'm sure he can get even faster and stronger. But his ability to understand the game, running routes, picking up the right blocks, managing space in coverage - it seems like it will be too much when his competition is just as athletic and has been playing the game since they were children. Would love to see him succeed. Hoping he can get in as a WR3 or PR/KR. That alone would be a huge accomplishment. Great vid! You sould cover more rugby!

He would probably make a very good kick/punt returner, and maybe a slot receiver whose versatility you can use in trick plays, getting pitches on the Jet Sweep or End Around, motioning into the backfield, or as a check down back you can get some screen passes to and similar so that he can run without the upright style being a weakness for him. Rugby Union has a lot of different positions that specialise in their roles but it's nothing like to the same extent as you'd see in American Football, because of the fact the game keeps running meaning you have to fill in another role at any given time - but that means he could be a very useful all-purpose kind of player that may not be a starter in any given position but can enter the game in all situations. He could even be a two-way player as he has good size and height to play corner as well in certain situations, since a winger in rugby has to field kicks and compete for catches in cross-field kick situations. He could definitely be a special teams menace in the coverage team as well as as a returner. Arguably compared to any of the other prior attempts to convert, like Christian Wade or Jarryd Hayne, who attempted the transition at age 27, he has a better chance because he's young enough to convert and have time to learn while still in his physical prime. The issue for him will be figuring out what his best role is and specialising in it enough to become good enough to make a team as against people who may not have better physical tools than Rees-Zammit, but offer more immediate results now because they're already familiar with the sport and have been playing it for years in known teams and with known coaches so they're way ahead in terms of how they think the sport.

I love your breakdown and analysis 🙌🏽 It would definitely be a fairly seamless transition for him starting out play kick/punt returner, while he's learning a skills position like WR or even RB. I believe WR will be a more natural fit for him, because being out on the edge is similar to being a wing in Rugby. He'll know how to look down the line and make adjustment pre and post snap. Like you mentioned so well, with youth and talent on his side he has the time to pick these skill up fairly quickly. Being in the IPP he'll be working with the smartest minds in football that will shorten the learning curve as well. As I currently do not know much about IPP I'm sure the deep intensive work they put them through will be similar to a hell week like military operators go through. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch him progress here in the next few months leading up to the NFL combine. @@QSNgg American football is very much a peripheral sport in Europe and while it has a decent audience, it is very limited as a participation sport. Teams often hold their own effectively recruitment days where players without previous experience will do drills based on various positions to see which they adapt to because it isn't always what people would expect. The IPP won't need to be quite as all-encompassing as that because they'll be dealing with people who are already elite physically and the coaches and minds will be more equipped to identify what a prospect's skillset is likely to be, and then hone in on what they need to learn for it. For example, while a rugby player - especially one who plays a wing or fullback position - will be used to catching the ball under pressure, this will usually be from high kicks and where if you catch the ball in the air you're ineligible to be hit until you land, so catching bullet passes, catches in traffic, route running even when away from the ball which will be against a rugby player's instinct, holding on after contact etc. will be things that need to be worked on for him to be an effective wide receiver. At first a lot of the time I anticipate he will work best in underneath routes, dump-off passes, slants or swing passes in man coverage for short gains where he can then use his open field ability, but with time and experience the height and speed could make him very useful as a deep threat.

Based on measurables alone, its worth seeing what he can do on Punt Returns. If he can track the ball, then put him in the slot and see if he can work.

As you've said, he's an obvious receiver with his height, speed and his conditioning towards crossing a line. But unlike many of the US's born receivers, this guy is used to the rough game as he's playing as much defense against other fast wingers as he has playing offense. I really wouldn't rule him out as being a very capable safety hunting down those deep receivers and having the vision to make interceptions and deep returns. imagine being a player like Tyreek Hill who's so used to outruunning d-men on the field and Rees Zammit is suddenly wrapped around his chest out of nowhere. I really hope he does well - get him in the Ravens!

You're 100% right Ktiger. He has all the tool and skillset to make a successful transition into the NFL. He'll definitely be more well suited for offense at the wide receiver position Playing defense would be to difficult of move because you have to play on your heels the entire time reading the offense while going backwards so to speak. LRZ is an absolute talent! It's going to be fun to see him make the NFL roster. Raven would be an incredible team to see him on! I hope he does well

I read that Zammit was earning £200k per year at Gloucester. He would've received additional payment for playing for the Welsh national team. He is unusual as a rugby player to make a fair amount through sponsorship as well

@QSNgg £200k is not a huge amount, but he was young, and that was his first contract, I imagine he would've more than doubled that with his next contract. But, rugby players don't make anywhere near what football, or american football players make

His total annual income from Rugby ( club salary of £220k + international appearance fees and other endorsements ) is in the region of £450k, which is at the upper end for players in the UK.

Nice analysis QSN - just so you know - Welsh Rugby has a Pathway system imported from New Zealand where all school kids are taught the same Skills at different ages and will progress from say Touch Rugby to 7's to Full Match. And then every village has its own Club and every Town and City will have many Clubs. Again they will all develop the same Skill Sets with Trained Coaches at certain ages (the Parents will only pay for like $4 Pitch Hire and some Biz Dad will sponsor the shirts - the Club makes money at Clubhouse Bar yay!). So yeah... he should be able to adapt to NFL Gameplay with his Speed Strength Moves.

Im a Gloucester Rugby fan. I'm gutted to see him leave and I think it'll be very difficult for him to make it in the NFL. Rugby players in the UK get a low wage in comparison to football or NFL players. LRZ is on about £250k a year I believe at Gloucester. Compared to Erling Haaland who earns twice that in a week! I really hope it works out for him. As a fan of Rugby and American Football it'd be cool to see a Gloucester player tearing up the NFL!!

I know this is a big loss for Gloucester. Especially when a young and very talented player leaves out of nowhere. I definitely hope LRZ makes it into NFL. He deserves to make a boat load of money especially since he's so young and with sports timeline is always unknown. So it's best to capitalize while you're healthy His success will definitely put Gloucester, Wales, and rugby on the map in the American market! I'm pulling for him to create massive success 🙌🏽

Rees Zammit would be lucky if he was earning a total of $400,000 PA. Putting that in perspective, a soccer player at a premier league club can earn that in a week. But they aren't risking catastrophic injury every time they set foot on the field. I wish Rees Zammit all the best and hope it works out, even though Im Welsh and he's one of our best players. And his nickname is 'Rees Lightening' . So lots of fun for you guys with that one.

It will be interesting to see what position they try him at....6ft3 and 215lbs is prime WR stats his speed may make him more of an outside guy than a slot guy, I am sure he has great hands with a rugby ball, but they are a tad bigger than NFL balls and catching them is a lot easier but with the gloves from the NFL that may make up for the difference. If he was a little taller or heavier I would love to see him as a receiving TE or even a HBack(if the any team still uses them lol) purely as the Rugby instincts to "push" from mauls etc could be used there. I mean it works (mostly) for the Eagles and the tush push.

You're spot on with everything you said. I agree he would make a great outside WR. Even putting him at punt/kick returner would be a great natural fit as well. He has all the intangible to make a solid run at the NFL. Some tweaks and adjustment to get used to the game and I think he'll be fine. I hope he does incredibly well 🙌🏽

Great to hear your comments. As a Wales supporter it is a pity but I understand why he wants to give NFL a go. He runs 100m in 10.4 secs, has a great sidestep and has good ball-handling skills. I initially thought running back but, as you point out, he would have to lower his body position which, as a tall man, might affect his speed. Instead, he seems to be aimed at receiver, where his height and speed will be to his advantage. He now has to become highly proficient at running a route and taking the ball coming from behind, all while wearing a helmet. Even if things don't work out, he is still very young and will have benefitted from the training, so a return to professional rugby will not be a problem. Pay for professional rugby players is much lower than both NFL and soccer. Top players might have a salary of $1m+, but many are much lower. LRZ is possibly about $250k.

@QSNgg Even the top clubs in Britain only have an attendance of about 20,000 per match so they are dependent on wealthy owners. There is a salary cap with only one "star" player being excluded from the cap. Obviously the top players pick up further income from international matches but the best probably make more from product endorsements or other businesses, such as property and restaurants. Pay in France is much higher so many British players, having established themselves in Britain, head to French clubs in their later years.

Thanks for the video, really interesting to hear the comments about the different running styles. No doubt he is a superstar in rugby, when he started playing for Wales it was like aliens had dropped him down fully formed and ready to roll 😅 I think it's very tough for him to make an NFL roster, though, it's a different beast. I just hope he doesn't waste 2-3 years trying, but fair play to him for being ballsy enough to give it a go.

decent evaluation, old bean. both physical, but very different, nfl you are running at each other with weapons on, then get breaks, rugby more like warfare, no pads and requires stamina, both excellent games, we can learn from each other. I think his chances are slim. would be the same the other way around, a lot to learn all round.

I think your point on collisions is spot on. In rugby the collisions are more predictable. You can’t tackle high, you have no protection when you tackle so you’re more reliant on technique.

I think LRZ at present if he starts will be a Return specialist. We didnt see it in the videos but wingers regularly support Full backs under high balls so that skillset is already ingrained. Few years training and development and id be interested to see if he makes it as a wide receiver or Running back

He's not retiring from Rugby Union, he's switching to NFL. Zammo has not reached his peak in rugby union as yet. His current athletic profile is perfect for NFL at this specific moment in time, and this is why he's taking this opportunity with NFL. He's one of the fastest-running humans to ever play rugby union.

Late in, but in terms of money for rugby players its a lot less. Its very country dependent as well. A few (30-40 world wide) are making north of 500k USD. Usually key positions, highly experienced and later in career. Players go to france or japan to get paid. Most countries require you to play in country In order to be eligible for the national team. Wales in particular is financially struggling and recently cut salaries. Their current contract system is based upon # of international appearances. LRZ is likely making less than 200k USD. Risk for him leaving is low. A French/Japanese club will scoop him up mid season for big $ if it doesn’t work out.

The biggest struggle he will have is he's competing against players that have grown up playing the game and the skills are instinctive. The same thing would happen if an NFL receiver played on the wing for a pro rugby team, speed and size are all good but a split second decision making time at that level nullifies it. Good luck to him tho, hope he ends up in a decent team..... not the Chargers lol

You're 100% right! There are definitely advantages other player have because they've played the game longer so a lot of their skill is instinctive. Like you said it goes both ways for sure! NFL players would have similar struggles learning the game of Rugby. I respect you insight. I feel DB would be too difficult to learn. Offensive side of the ball will be a smoother transition. Especially if he's not a great tackler, with the ability to shed blocks it'll be hard for him to play defense at that level

@@QSNgg Défense in any sport is easier to master than offense in skill positions, LRZ is by far a better tackler(not hitter)in the open field than most CB I have watched in the NFL example Riq Woolen best man CB in the league but can't tackle for toffee which has negated his shutdown pass coverage not being able to bring a man down.

@@QSNgg I am American but the last couple years I have fallen in love with Australian footy. During the season I regularly stay up for matches on Friday and Saturday night that start live at 130am or 430am lol. I think that sport has more skills that would translate in to American football than a lot of rugby. We have this somewhat stuck up mentality in the states and we say why wouldn’t these guys in the AFL want to give it a shot or why doesn’t the absolute specimens on the Fijian rugby sevens team give it a shot but then I had to realize these guys are all superstars in their own communities and countries in the sport that is popular there. Why risk getting hurt or failing trying to learn something new in your 20s that everyone else has done since they were 5. I’m all for supporting anyone who does try to make the switch but I understand the apprehension as well.

Rugby in the uk is going through a bad time at the moment due to poorly run and lack of funds, it’s a short life span to earn any money, this guy ricks a lot of boxes, big fast movement, give him the ball and a yard of grass entertaining to watch, he’s also very marketable in us and UK, I think we will see a lot of players defecting over to your side of the pond in the next 3 years for this reason.

Yeah I've heard there are a lot of issues going on in rugby at the moment. That unfortunate because it deserves a bigger platform and the athletes deserve to get paid better. Hopefully this move along with the other IPP rugby player moving to the NFL it'll open up conversations to get more money and attention on Rugby

I played to a decent level in my youth and we were coached to get upright when out in space, with the ball in front as it opens up options for passing. He'll know full well though that when around the pack to keep your head low and drop your shoulder. You won't get the sense of it from a highlights reel. As a Wales supporter, I'm disappointed for the team, but excited to see him go also. Rugby has big problems on many levels as others have said. When you watch the old games from the amateur days, they were so much more exciting open games. Having said that, the quarter finals weekend of World Cup was incredible. Definitely a comment video in that somewhere

A friend of mine who knows some of the WRU boys said Louis is big into NFL and has already done some training etc ofc its not going to compare to growing up in America and playing college football but afaik hes not coming in blind! He’s extremely fast but he can get faster because he won’t need the endurance of rugby. He can train for short bursts of speed rather than constant movement.

He definitely won't be a defensive player that much is for sure. His takling was the one aspect of his game which would cost him his place in the Welsh team. Other than that his all around skill levels are impressive. His ability to change direction at top speed will lend itself well to running routes, I just hope he gets to show what he's capable of. Dan Carter got offered a kicker contract in the NFL and turned it down. Less money in rugby but if you are good then you can get endorsements.

He could be a running back in the style of the great Eric Dickerson. They are similar(ish) in size and Dickerson also had a very upright running style. Watching Dickerson got me into the NFL 40 years ago as a viewer in UK.

Jarryd Hayne make a 53 man roster without play a snap of Gridiron in 2015. He had, lets say some off field issues. Jordan Mailata is now one of the best Left tackles in the NFL, he was a South Sydney Rabbitohs junior. Jotham Russell is in the current crop of NFL international pathways guys. He is a Brisbane Broncos junior pathways guy. All these guys are from rugby league/NRL. Yes "Rugby" guys can make the NFL. More likely Rugby League guys at this point. Matt Burton has a career waiting for him as a punter if he wants it in a few years.

Making the NFL as a WR is much more difficult for a rugby player than playing offensive tackle or punter. No comparison really

@@JayTeejee547Making the NRL from any NFL position is much more difficult than the other way around. It is no comparison really. They are not setup to do it. They would last 5 minutes tops. Hill would make a few great runs but let in about 5 tries at the same time and be gassed by the 10th minute.

I only know amything about nfl from yt shorts and madden mobile, but i feel like he'd be a good kick returner since he's used to that in rugby as he occasionally plays fullback (very different in rugby to an nfl flullback)

Very different sports, different laws, different equipment, split second decisions are made through years of experience through childhood to adulthood, it will be as difficult for LRZ to convert successfully as it would be for a top NFL to convert to rugby union. I wish him the best however and hope he thrives in the USA. Neither sport is harder or tougher, faster or more skilful than the other, they are just different. Any one claiming one over the other is just biased. Gutted to see him go, really hope he succeeds. Regards, A Welsh man.

Glos-ter 👍 the IPP has produced a fair few decent players. My guy Efe Odaba a DE for my Washington Commanders came from the IPP. Jordan mialata is one of the best LT in the NFL for the Eagles he came from Rugby League in Australia through the IPP - great review I’m hoping LRZ does the business and gets on a Practice Squad

The sad part to me is that if LRZ is successful it could mean a lot of future British and European rugby stars make the jump. The rugby union can't keep up with NFL pay. LRZ is thought to only be on around £250k/year and he's one of the biggest names in rugby at the moment.

Ive played rugby my whole life and never played AF. I now do watch the dolphins as I'm a tua fan. NFL athletes are top notch and are some of the most gifted athletes in the world. American football is similar but a different sport at the same time. Both have their good and bad. If I really had an attachment to a team I'd watch NFL often but for now I'm only interested in the dolphins

Like you said both sports are amazing with good and bad in each. The Dolphins would be an awesome team for LRZ to play for. Him plus Hill and Waddle they would be even more insane! As others have said, he's got all the athletic ability he needs. What he's lacking is the ingrained knowledge and instincts you build from playing a sport since you were a kid. As you say with the upright running, that will be instinctual because you want to be able to kick or pass at any time in Rugby while that isn't a thing in NFL.

WR is definitely more complex than it appears he would have to learn these 9 skillsets just from my experience 1. Release Quickness 2. Great Route Running and Ability to Set Up Defenders 3. Separation Quickness 4. Field Awareness and Ability to Read Coverages 5. Athleticism and Body Control 6. Hands, Ball Skills, Large Catch Radius and Ability to Catch in a Crowd 7. Run After Catch (RAC) Skills and Instincts with the Ball After the Catch 8. Speed (to a Certain Extent) 9. Ability to Block on the Perimeter He already has the speed and athleticism, but has to shape it into the context of football

Same here. Quite often right after the World Cup and at other times as well, national teams allow the players to venture out and play club ball out of country. There’s a guy from New Zealand that went to France, I think at least one maybe more headed to Japan. It allows them to earn more. Christian Wade went through the same process and was drafted by the Bills. That really tall offensive tackle for the Eagles did as well. He’s actually a rather talented singer too. There’s been a few kicker/punters that came from Aussie football (AFL) and some from rugby. I saw a guy kick a drop goal from 100 meters out in a No game situation ( that’s 109. Idk yards. That’s mind boggling.

From the way you talk, I reckon ‘American’ football must be coached well nationwide. You seem to have so many concepts ingrained in you. Although we have specialist positions in Rugby, each player needs to be well rounded. Positions in the NFL seem super specialised and specific to me, so he will have to find his niche.

Yeah I think the big difference is that American football we're only able to play one position and two at the most if you're really talented. American football you're taught to specialize on one position and you stay there pretty much you're entire career. Like you mentioned Rugby athletes are more well rounded. It'll be cool to see how LRZ does in the NFL and what position he'll play

@@QSNgg We have very specialised positions in rugby too, the front row especially, it would be very difficult for a player to move from elsewhere to prop or hooker, it does happen once in a blue moon, but not usually after the player matures. Those positions are so specialist that there has to be a complete front row on the bench, in case of injury or substitutions, and once they are used up, the scrum goes to uncontested if there are no props or hookers available to cover an injury, and no pushing is allowed, they do this for safety because the front row of the scrum is such a dangerous position.

Not far away in the NFL world is the evolution of the ‘Dual Threat Punter ‘ a geezer who has the cannon leg strength of the NRL’s Matt Burton and the wheels of a Cheslin Kolbe or a Ricko Ioane Look at all of those Aussie Punters in college nearly every big school has one , now most of those guys have the leg strength from all that Aussie Rules footie but they are not runners imagine if they started importing from the Rugby codes Now I don’t think I’ve seen LRZ kick from the hand much at least not ones he’s not chasing but if he could kick he might be the first through the door The ‘Dual Threat ‘ Punter you heard it here first 😃

Man even if he’s not exceptional at Football, surely a team like the Jaguars would see the marketing opportunity in taking him on. Like how lucrative would it be for the someone like the Jaguars to have one of Britains biggest rugby stars coming out and playing, maybe even scoring a touchdown when they come play in the NFL London games! You’d have so much extra hype in the build up to the games, Sky Sports would be pushing it like crazy. LRZ coming back to Britain showing off in the helmet and cleats. Headline news, probably make a big deal in the states too just because of the situation. But in terms of the NFLs ambition to keep pushing into the European market and growing the popularity over here. Having a player like LRZ successfully make the transition would be huge. Would certainly gain a lot of interest. If he’s even half decent I can’t see why a franchise wouldn’t take the punt on him just for a season at the least. Even if he doesn’t play a whole lot.

I had a quick look online, top rugby union players seem to get around what rugby league players get in Australia. I think it depends largely on how important your position is & the country you are playing for. I think the top players are getting between $1-2 m Australian dollar. I'm assuming there may be more money in the NFL 🤷♀️ I did watch an interview with a player from rugby league in Australia that was recruited by NFL & made it - but he was not playing top level, only in reserves. I can't remember his name, but he was apparently defensive.

To answer the question about pay: rugby players that play for teams in France tend to be the highest earners. But it's definitely not as much money as soccer. Maybe about $600,000 per year for a very good player.

Players like LRZ often earn $300-500k per year for their club, the best paid worldwide earn $1-2m. International players get additional pay per game, which varies depending on how wealthy their nation’s union is. LRZ is very marketable so his brand deals will be another significant part of his income. Overall Rugby players are not paid that well, considering the damage done to their body during a relatively short career. In the NFL he would play fewer games and get much better pay if he makes it.

@@QSNgg Rugby union is still quite young as a professional sport as for over a century it doggedly held on to its amateur status and only went fully professional in the mid 1990s. This means that although quite a big sport globally it is still building itself at the pro level and that hurts players earning potential compared to other sports
