My husband and I flew from Seattle to Narita Oct. 28 on ANA Dreamliner. Our experience mirrored yours. When we arrived, we looked at each other and said, "This felt like a 3 hour flight!" Our friends arrived minutes later on United and Delta and all went straight to bed when we got to our hotel in Tokyo. My husband and I walked around near our hotel, looked into a few little shops and found FRISK mints (can't find them in the U.S.), and had dinner at an Indian restaurant! All of our friends (7 of them) suffered more jet-lag than we did! We are sold on the 787 after watching your video and listening to your experience! Thanks for posting.

Great video! Your commentary is well done too! I've flown ANA and they were FANTASTIC! I bought a business class (SFO-NRT-SFO)seat with United miles and the experience was unbelievable. I had the best bowl of noodles for snack time!!! Perhaps with the fall of DOMA, you and your partner can live back here in the Bay Area. All the best to you!

The 787's really showed the new era of aviation history, along with more aerodynamic airframe and quiet and fuel-efficient engines, along with a comfortable cabin with extra space for you and your bags, as well as hi-tech window shades, entertainment system, and even the restrooms. Sometime, I'll fly these aircraft one day.

I've seen a several of your videos, and I think this one is probably my favorite (although I also really liked the one about Taiwan's high-speed rail). In my opinion, you have a really nice narrative style and come across as impartial, which I appreciate. Your choice of background music was really nice as well. Really well done. I notice that you haven't posted lately as much as you used to. Speaking as someone who has lived abroad, I would love to see more stuff like this (your observations on long-distance travel, foreign food, learning to cope with linguistic and culture immersion, and the logistics of life as an expat).

Glad you enjoyed it. Am trying to create trip reports that are more polished than most of the ones on the internet. So many have inconsistent audio, shaky video, and no narrative perspective. Trying to push the bar to higher quality.

Good thing ANA provided a visual illustration of the meals on both the screen and menu cards. The 787 is a great aircraft to fly in, and I hope to see it in person at the upcoming Singapore Airshow, which is happening on Feb 15 and 16. It happens once every 2 years, unlike the annual Paris Airshow. I also love the idea of dimmable windows, but to me the fixed back shell seating is quite uncomfortable although its beneficial to the ppl seating behind me. I hope you will fly Singapore Airlines soon! A flight on my hometown airline will leave you wanting to fly with them even more thanks to the legendary Singapore Girl's awesome and impeccable service, as well as the hard work and efficiency by both the inflight and ground crew.

Nice report! I traveled on ANA NH011/NH012 (ORD/NRT) 777-300, and have to say the service you have described is consistent with my trip. Best flight I have had.

Nice video. I flew the same flight in the summer of 2014 (SJC-NRT), except I didn't use the ANA lounge upstairs. It was my first time with ANA. My trip began with an inconvenience however. A problem was found with an airplane part which had to be ordered and as a result our flight was delayed about 7 or 8 hours. I think we were wheels-up around 7:30pm. I knew I was going to miss my connection to Hong Kong but when we reached NRT, to my pleasant surprise I found that ANA had not only rebooked me on an HKG flight for the following morning (with apologies) but also arranged for a comfortable stay at a nearby 5 star hotel (Tokyu). Since I was on vacation and in no great hurry to get anywhere, all in all it was a pleasant experience. Along with Singapore Airlines, ANA is now one of my preferred airlines for traveling to Asia.

Great job, this is a realy good documentation of your first flight with 787 Dreamliner - I like it. I used the 787 from Düsseldorf to Tokyo and back and did mostly only window view videos. For the future I will use your video as a good example to do it different.

Awesome review...great video. I'll be flying on ANA's 787 from Seattle to Narita in a few weeks from now...looking forward to it. Even though I have flown on the 787 many many many times as a flight test engineer, this upcoming flight will be my first on a 787 as a 'regular' passenger.
