What’s the difference between doing the actual bootcamp and app academy open in terms of curriculum ?

I am soooo glad that you did this one. I was referred to them. I just happen to be on KZfaq and saw a video about the drama. It will help me put things in perspective. I was considering them but wanted to wait until everything calmed down. I will look for other options

What perfect timing, I’m attending App Academy’s inperson full time bootcamp in NYC starting August 21st. Seems like their interview process is still quite competitive compared to other bootcamps. I’m also glad to hear that their instructors and career coaches are quite knowledgeable. I’d love to come on this podcast after I’m done to share my experience. Thanks Don!

@@kyleparkin2428 How difficult was it, and did you have any prior experience beforehand? I'm thinking about signing up for the 12 month program as I really doubt I could do the 6 month program and feel like I don't learn at a quick enough pace.

Im glad I came across your video upon doing further research on app academy. Before your video I came across another KZfaqr basically just trashing app academy because of the lay offs. Saying not to give them a try. But layoffs happen and they’ve been happening more with a lot of companies like you all stated. I’m glad these guys agreed they would still do without the cowherds because that other video made me kind of second guess if I want to give this coding thing a try. Overall it seems like this should still be one of the top coding bootcamp options in my opinion. This will be my first time diving into any major coding. Probably gonna start practicing and learning with some free courses or videos I can find tomorrow to see if this is what I want to do for sure. Thanks again for the video brother this was really helpful hearing from these guys and also your great questions!

I think that theyre not worried about the people who paid up front for the job search is they already been paid. The others who signed the agreement need to pay still so app academy is probably pushing them harder so they can start getting that money.

This is useful info thank you. I would filter through online reviews on social media discussions and parse such minimal info on whether or not a bootcamp was good. Going to binge the playlist and see if it matches my findings. I found a really tough camp that has a high job find rate high knowledge gain but its at a speed that filters low level programmers.

I was a student, then an instructor for App Academy. I love hearing this kind of feedback on the program from the student perspective. Seeing all of the decisions behind the scenes and watching how it impacts different aspects of the students journey was extremely eye opening.

Should also mention that A/A has over 1,000+ grads currently trying to find that first position somewhere. And every month that goes by that is another 100+ more A/A grads added to the job search that you are now competing with. Not to mention all of the other bootcamps that are pumping out students. Instructors were amazing at A/A but where the program falls short is more into the curriculum.

I'm scheduled to speak with one of their Admission Representatives tomorrow and this really concerned me because the labor market had cooled down since last year and the labor shortage in the tech industry is just a myth. Many of these companies are now looking for senior software Developers.

@@ishma2100 I would proceed with caution. Just in the past month they have fired/laid off a ton of their TAs. And these people are the backbone of the program. Without them a/a is nothing in my opinion. I actually attended a/a with both of these guys in the yt vid and can tell you first hand they held back a ton. Since they are still considered in the hiring phase in a/a they were treading lightly just to make sure no repercussions came there way. So now they got rid of their Cohort leads and slowly firing the TAs to the mod leads. If you are really intersted in getting into this field I would either go the college route or look at cheaper alternatives. A/A no longer has the edge on the other bootcamps.

There banking on students taking the TA hit on the chin. Students should definitely not have to pay full price.

Tests and examns? My full time job is stressful enough. And in a real world setting you are evaluated with projects not exams. Thanks for this information and interview.

To clarify a point from an hour into the video: if you sign up with the income-sharing agreement, you're required to apply to a certain number of jobs per week, attend pairboarding every week, do other job-search tasks as assigned by the coach, etc. after you graduate. I'm pretty sure this is part of the contract for people who don't pay upfront. I paid upfront, so I'm not 100% sure what the penalty is, but I think if you violated this enough, you could be required to pay the $30k or whatever (even if you don't have a job yet).

it's on their ISA Details page - "If you search ... in accordance with the ... Job Search Agreement ... for three years and do not find a job, you are not charged tuition." So it is to your benefit anyway to complete it. Not having read the finer details of the ISA, it infers you're always on the hook to pay them their due; their model likely assumes you'll land a $50K job at some point (note: also not sure if it's job in general or specifically triggered only by a coding job, as some ISA's trigger based only on income regardless of job type). The other interesting detail of the ISA and bad for them is if you only land a $50K job - they could loose out on money if you don't get promoted in the 3 yrs... look at the chart or just do the math and for them to make back their $31K you need to be making around $80K - so it's really important for them to get you into a job and a higher paying one at that.

If any of the guys are here in the comments. About how many hours a day did you spend on attending class and working on stuff outside of class?
@hack9
@hack9 11 ай бұрын
Hey, Max here. Class for me was 9 - 6 with a couple breaks and lunch in between. As for working on stuff outside of class, earlier in the bootcamp I'd say a couple hours outside of class. But as you get further in, you kind of need to make trade-offs between expending energy on a frankly cryptic textbook, or being able to capitalize on the lecture. I personally clocked out at 9 every night.

For the online 6-months, I worked 8am-6 or 7pm ish most days. Gave up a few Sunday afternoons to study as well but you can definitely have a life on the weekends most of the time

Disagree with his comments about the test. You get a practice test 3-5 days before that's basically identical to the real test, they always threw 1-2 curve balls but most people were able to get 100s on all tests
