I worked with a fellow almost 50 years ago who was from eastern North Carolina. He said as a kid one of his chores was to feed the hogs. Well one evening he was going down to the hog pin with buckets of slop for the hogs and there standin in the path was a man with no head. He said that he droped the slop buckets and ran as hard as he could back to the house. When he told his Daddy his Daddy gave him the whoping of his life for lying. But when he told me this story he swore that it was true and said he never went to the hog pen again. But you can make of it what you will.

I have never heard that story but being right here in the middle of the smoky mountains I have heard a plenty of them about things just like this

I remember watching bill Landry tell that story on the heartland series. I loved that series.

My PawPaw and Granny first got married, they had an old shack out in the boonies of Gwinnett County back then, maybe around 1946 after Pawpaw come home from the war. They were sitting on the front porch of the house and it was raining that night. Well, they saw this figure coming across the yard, and it spooked them so they got up and went inside the house. As Pawpaw was shutting the door, he looked back and it was an older woman. After shutting the door, they waited for the knock on the door, but it never came. Pawpaw looked back outside but the woman was gone. There was another time that he was leaving and going to work on a foggy foggy morning. Barely enough to keep the windshield clean without leaving the wipers on steady. He was coming down old norcross road that morning and saw this woman walking on the side on the road wearing all white. The closer he got, he could tell it was a wedding dress. So he slowed down to see if he could help her or give her a ride. When he got right up on her, she stopped walking as he pulled up alongside of her . She slowly turned towards him but before he could see her face, she just disappeared.
