Are Video Games Really Addicting?

Are video games really addicting? And if so, how addicting are they? Rather than go down the entirely academic route of video game studies, I tried to take a look at what aspects of video games actually make them addicting and try to draw a line between actual addiction and a fun, sometimes social, hobby.

I owe a lot to Video Games. They helped me grow as a person, thought me more about English then my school ever did and they serve as inspiration for D&D story writing. Hell, I even use sounds and clips from video games I record myself, that I use to edit videos. Videogames are truly the best thing to happen to society since Fire was discovered. You can live out your wildest dreams and imaginations without hurting anyone.

Great video! Love the irony of this coming out literally in the middle of me stopping studying for my final and getting on valorant, a game i hate and haven't played in nearly a year lmao

Thank you! Lmao good luck on your exams man, hope you do well! :)) - I intentionally haven’t gotten into valorant for this reason, I’ve already given Riot 8.5 years of my life on league, I can’t afford to do that again on Val too 😅

idk if its addiction but i had a period in my life where i just wanted to escape bc i have so many problems. so i played stardew for 200h in 2 weeks. I think thats the case for many people, the real problem is not videogames, it's something else in their life. So blaming videogames for that is just not right. Different story for predatory games like many gacha/mobile games though.

I feel you there, often life can be extremely hard for some people and escaping into these magical worlds like Stardew are just to escape from that - I used to use a game called VA11 Hall-A for a similar situation a couple of years ago! But yeah mobile games are just another world of evil when it comes to this stuff sadly - P.S. Hope you’re doing better now! :)
