Hi, welcome to my channel! My name is Vasil, and I am restoring my 1974 Columbia 45 sailboat. In this episode I will be attaching the Johnson 25 horsepower two stroke motor to my sailboat while it's moored in the bay. This motor will end up being my primary motor for about a year.

I think that's the sketchiest thing I have every seen! Great entertainment! 😂 A sailboat has many winches that you can use. I would hook a halyard to the motor and winch the motor up.

I agree with you. That was a sketchy as sketchy gets, walking down sketch street haha! I don't want to do that again, no thank you very much. Winching it up was my original idea, however the waves out in the bay compound EVERYTHING when I'm working on the outside of that boat. I was really worried about the stability of my dinghy, it's not very stable at all. Any wrong movement would spell disaster. My brother assured me that everything would be fine with this method... haha! I really need to save up some money for a RHIB. Thank you for the comment, much appreciated.

@@ambiguousglobetrotter Your dinghy is fine. Those RHIBs are super expensive unless you get a really small one. When you get all your work done on the boat, the dinghy will only serve to get you to shore for a nice dinner! In fact, you may find that a smaller dinghy RHIB will be all you need. I know some folks only use a stand-up board.

@@PatrickHoodDaniel Very true, I couldn't believe how expensive the RHIBs are! You are right, there is a woman on one of the moorings that uses a standup paddle board to get to and from her boat. This whole thing is a massive learning curve for a beginner lol.

@@ambiguousglobetrotter Yeah, for me too. I am in the same position you are. I was commenting with another profile "SV IntheAna Jones". That's my sailboat channel. This is my main channel. Keep up the wonderful work and have fun.

I hit 3:34 and thought WTH 😅 are they doing? Absolutely must winch it down off the stern……next time. You have to promise 😎. Cheers and happy holidays, your channel is excellent!

Haha! Carl, I would have loved to lower from the stern! I'm in a position of the chicken before the egg, or the egg before the chicken. If the boat was at a dock, then it would have been easy to get the motor on deck and then lower it... but I can't get to the dock without an engine... For now, it seems like I'm constantly between a rock and a hard place with this boat. However, this engine should make my life significantly easier. So next time, for sure, I will lower the motor from the deck. I promise lol. Thank you for the kind words, I'm working hard to keep you guys entertained!

I’m only 4 minutes in and that motor is screwed.

Craig, I did not anticipate the motor being so far in the water. Completely in the water... 😔. I'm hoping that wasn't a grave mistake. Let's see if I can get it running!

@@ambiguousglobetrotter fair play to you bro, get stuck on. I recently went of the idea of getting a sailboat due to the fact of how much hard work it is, finding somewhere to Moore up/ anchor, everything always breaking etc. decided the new plan is look into travelling around with a caravan, they are normally always build to living standards, less rocky, they have beds, showers central heating etc, and you can find plenty of free places to park up! Just need a good battery bank to keep everything ticking over like with a yacht :) good luck on your travels mate

@@joshmiddleton7541 caravans are a great idea for all the reasons you mentioned. I travelled across the US for about 4 months in an SUV, that was quite an adventure. All the problems with boats like anchoring, finding places, fixing things (DAILY), and costs are all things I’m dealing with currently. But I tell you what, it’s one heck of a ride! Haha!

@@ambiguousglobetrotter ah I bet it was amazing over the USA! I’m from UK so not much to do, you can drive from 1 end of my country to the other end in around 6/7h so not much to see 😂 my plan eventually will be to take the caravan over the Europe and explore places like Spain 🤩 maybe I will see you on your yacht one day haha
