i love the sound he got out of the last position i know a world class sound engineer who uses that same position in the studio

im a player and a technician as well and micing the hi-hat from the side actually works better for me and the people i've worked with..they say it sounds better like more real feel..the thing about it is that if the hi-hats are not leveled equally it won't soud as great as it should...

@temskee The 10 dB pad can be used at your discretion. It’s only necessary to engage the pad if the mics are very very close to the cymbals, or the stage volume is extremely loud.

@JazzNaySean any mixer that has 1/4 or XLR inputs..depends on the cables you use for the mics...i totally prefer the peaveys..they're not expensive and they do the job well done..,.for my drums i use a PV14

you point your mic directly to the hi hat ? I though I Had to keep a certain angle to protect the microphone cuz when you point it directly to a loud sound you can broke the condenser mic ?!

Would a SM57 work for hi hats?

do you recommend audix f9 for hi hat as well? I have both f9 and adx51, i used a pair of adx51 for overheads, and a pair of f9 for hi hat and ride. i found a very silght difference in sound. adx51 is less muddy for the hi hat. but f9 can achieve it when i cut down the mids.. is it still advisable to replace my f9 to adx51? are f9's like adx51 without the -150 cut and -10db pad?

That radio guy messed up. This isn't a hyper cardioid mic. It's a condensor mic meaning it's an omni right? Or did I mess something up. I'm new to this stuff but I was trying to focus. Or is this just a cardioid?
