Boeing's deliveries continue to skip as the airline battles persistent issues and continued investigations from the Federal Aviation Administration. Additionally, Airbus has signed a deal with Air Canada to overhaul the A320 family aircraft with upgraded avionics and systems to better align the aircraft with upcoming next-generation units. Lastly, one of the newer entries into the market, Breeze Airways, has finally announced a month's profit as the company looks to continue advancing.

Air Canada has 27 A320 registered. (didn't check 319). 10 are from its original order delivered 1991-1993, the rest were built between 2002 and 2008 and imported various years. AAt least 1 of the older 320s are ex Canadian Airlines. In 2003-2004, Air Canada went through CCAA (Chapter 11) and except for its DC-9s all of the rest of its fleet was owned by lessors. DC09s and the ex CP 737-200s were disposed of). When Air Canada originally ordered the 737, it was to be 61 units which were to replace the 320s except for a handful for its Rouge flanker brand. After the grounding of the 737 and pandemic, Air Canada reduced the 737 order to only 40 and cut its order for 220s as well, and this may explain why iit still has such a large number of "ceo" A320s in its fleet and still gets lessors to swap the oldest ones with less old ones. (2002 manufacture is still a 22 year old plane). It is still surprising to see Air Canada loosen its "all Boeing" attitude acquired from years of hiring top management from Continental. But it says a lot about 27 a320ceo being retained in fleet instead of getting the 737 Max with more efficient engines. My guess is the extra capacity of 320 has role to play. And I have to wonder who actually made the decisions and paying for the cockpit upgrades , whether it is Air Canada or the lessors who actually own the aircraft. With such old aircraft, one wonders how many more years AC intends to operate them before returning to lessors in exchange for younger ones.

It probably made sense to retrofit them as it it probably cheaper and more practical than replacing all planes (and also could be faster du to the years it take to get new planes delivered) + make sense for pilot and maintenance to have a more unified fleet. Also this probably help pilots in the cockpit to get all the new features.
@cristiandiaz6333
@cristiandiaz6333 25 күн бұрын
If there is still a pilot shortage, both Airbus and Boeing are probably aware of the fact that there are many that will fly their aircrafts anyway. So they are probably using the airplane pilot shortage to catch up in areas they urgently need to such as the supply chains, quality issues (as in the case of boeing), and airlines' financial crises to resolve.
