This is a fantastic version of this great song, and Willie`s voice just fits it to a tee. A great song made better? by Willie`s almost soulful voice. A true joining that does justice to the new and old versions. One of the best lyrical stories that they ever told.

Amazing how the Beach Boys have been able to reconstitute themselves. Carl and Dennis were not easy to replace, and you can talk about nepotism all you want, but Al Jardine's son Matt is phenomenal.

What an incredible gift this is! Two legends - Brian Wilson and Willie Nelson together appreciating each other's incredible magic. Doesn't surprise me that Mike Love thought he could "instruct" Willie on how to sing the inflections. Just demonstrates how narcissistic he is.

Adding the Willy Nelson touch (harmonica, very light instrumental BG) is a joyous combination and affirmation of American musical genius. I wish the BB’s were paired with Ray Charles.

Far and away my favorite cut on the Stars 'n Stripes album. Willie is just perfect for the song. And contrary to some of the criticisms here, both Mike and Brian obviously thought he hit it out of the park. And, my gosh, those lush background vocals! (And to think Brian was just 21 when he wrote this music!)

This was EXCELLENT as a song and also as a short video the Beach Boys sounded like they were in their 20s again . it’s a bit of a shame they didn’t record a whole album of collaborations . However The Beach Boys did pop up with the group Chicago on wishing you were here .which was also Brilliant as a song 👍🏻🇬🇧

I've long recognized Mike Love as a complete horse's ass. But for that yutz to try to tell Willie about phrasing is incalculable idiocy and chutzpah (not a good combo). Phrasing is probably Willie's greatest strength as a singer. He's a master.

Willie's treatment of this Beach Boys gem is lovely. I was stunned to learn from Brian's liner notes (in his 2002 collection of his Beach Boys favorites)that this gorgeous song was written the night OF (not before) President John F. Kennedy's assassination. How terribly poignant. "It won't ever die" (unlike our beloved president slain by a murderous conspiracy).

No Mike was not being an ass to Willie. He was protecting the song as a father would his child. But, when he saw his child was in caring hands he just let it happen. The result. A BEAUTIFUL rendition of the song. Willie will not kill a song.

Mike sued Brian for writers credit on most of the BB hits. Taking advantage of Brian...today there are 2 groups touring as the Beach Boys or the Beach Boys & friends or Brian and friends. Doing Beach boy songs..I'd pick the one without Mike love. He thinks HE IS the BB....

Been a Beach Boys fan from way back. But there was always something about Mike Love that didn't sit well with me. Now I understand. Only a control freak would try to tell Willie Nelson how to perform. And it explains the run-ins with Brian Wilson.
