I totally agree. World Rugby President. I bet you 90% of the Executive Committee will be sent out with a Red Card during the meetings. As another commentator mentioned, if Nigel Owens refereed Football Premiership, they will be playing the most 5 a side football.

The greatest Referee to ever run onto the rugby field. Nigel is good humoured, professional and a positive proponent for free flowing rugby and that's what makes rugby exciting. Pay attention French Refs. This is how it's done!

I too thoroughly enjoy watching Nigel officiate. I spent several years refereeing for the Royal Navy Society and the Dorset & Wiltshire Society and you soon learn that the referee can enhance a game or can totally wreck a game. As shown in this video, organisation and planning are vital for a good outcome - even at club level - and whatever you do - don't get it wrong in an inter-ship match for the Royal Navy as you have to live with those guys for the next 18 month may be. Keep up the good work Nigel, here's to seeing you officiate at the World Cup.

@@rorynickols1268 Barnes is one of the most biased professional referee. He should be dropped from international duty, he may be consistent but he is consistent to one team and not the other. The team he usually biased against in Wales as well, especially Wales V France absolutely shambles of a ref

taffboyslim could happen the way Northern hemisphere sides are playing ATM. Even England with at least 4 first choice players injured seem to be building well. AB's aren't the invincibles they usually are at this stage, and SA, Aussie are pretty predictable.

The one criticism I have of Owens is that he doesn’t play advantages long enough. Unless you make 20m per phase then you’ll hear the whistle blow after only short phase which is frustrating AF

I went to a rugby school in Northampton. If we shouted at the ref...questioned a decision we were sent round the field. And it was a big field! You learned very quickly to respect the referee. Play tough but respect the ref. Nigel reminds me of My games master. Just the same. He is a model in how you referee. I want him to get the final but I also want England and Wales in it! Which would make it impossible. I tell you this though....if it was England Wales and he did ref it....he'd be straight and call it completely fair without a thought of otherwise.

He is a Genius, there must be many included myself who must have turned up even for a stale boring match to watch him. Rugby Referees do a lot of prep work unlike incompetent Football(Soccer) referees.

He is the best rugby referee in the world I agree cause the others are absolutely awful. Doesn't like the Aussies much though gives us a hard time, anyway hes cost some wins but its probably happened to other teams so that's the way it is. Definitely need more consistency from Video refs some of their decisions are outrageous, what do you guys think?

Can someone give me a genuine answer as to why Nigel Owens is regarded as “Rugby’s best referee” Does he have the highest success rates when it comes to decisions? Or is it just because people find him funny? I’m assuming the latter.

I know he waxes lyrical about things, but that's part of being Welsh. I don't think he's arrogant. He talks a lot when he puts the case for rugby, but it's worth putting up with that.
