I saw that those bullets were in stock at an online store and thought about trying them out. But, time is tight right now and the factory fmj rounds are reasonable accurate for shooting paper. 7.62x39 is such a mild load to shoot. I had forgotten how much fun they could be.

I need to get my targets and check for actual numbers. My experience is similar. I have shot multiple 3 shot groups with the same load. 5-10 groups. I used a 3-18 scope at 100 yards and could see where each shot hit. First shots were great group wise, on the order of an inch. 2nd and 3rd shots high right. Big problem for 50 gr ammo. Less so for 55 gr ammo. Groups in the 3-4 inch range. No 1911 buffer any more. I did get a set of gas bushings and have been playing with those. It helps reduce groups but I still have work to do there as the rifle will only cycle in warm weather. So, I need to try a larger bushing. The scatter in the group (low left first shot) seemed to go away some with 60 or 62 gr ammo. My next attempt will be larger bushing and 60 and 62 gr loads. I have little kids and only get to shoot the rifle once a year or so right now, so this is a 5 year project and counting. Great gun but overall disappointing unless I can get group size down. 2-3” at 100 yards would be a win. I want to be able to shoot at coyote size target at 200’yards and with 50 gr ammo first shot would go low and 2nd would go high. So, maybe heavier bullet will work out.

@@bgallaher77 Our goals are similar. I have a lot of coyotes around here and that's the main thing i want to do with mine. Weird thing to me is i have a mini 30 and i can get a 1.5'' group all day long with Winchester power points. That one stays in the safe until deer season though, the other gun i want to be able to grab in a hurry. The 7.62 is a tactical model with two inches shorter barrel and a somewhat heavy flash hider that i put on it. I'm in contact with a gunsmith who builds guns for accuracy. I'll let you know if i have any major improvements. I'm determined to conquer this thing. Thanks for your response and happy shooting!

You make a fair point, is an accuracy test that is rushed a worth while test? Furthermore, is accuracy testing valid with a 3-9x40 power scope? Adjusting the trigger pull, using a scope w ~20x magnification, and more shooting is what is really needed. You can take it further to include wind flags, calm weather, well rested, lack of caffeination, etc take it to the nth degree. What information does 2x 5-shot groups give you? I wanted to know if the ammo was “acceptable” to guide future ammo purchases. Both met my definition of acceptable, and the test was concluded. If you wanted to know which one was better or what the True potential of each load was, then this did not answer those questions. As far as hand loading. The only reason to buy factory ammo for use in a bolt gun is cost, either monetary or time. Handloads are en entirely different game. The only reason to buy brass cased ammo at that point is to have fire formed brass once it has been unloaded. At that point you can probably buy Lapua brass cheaper and never have to wonder if he brass was the limiting factor in accuracy potential.
