toastwoozi also when Simon was pretending to be his mum and at the end will goes “well that was fucking dreadful”. They find the ridiculous impression of his mum funny, but that just sets up wills quirky line which I think is meant to be the main bit.

@@lacari0805 Did the same in mine lol. Instant detention for saying it. One new teacher didn't get the memo and said "I will not be having this childish banter in my class." Needless to say, the class lost it, overthrew the lesson and she was fired the next for not being able to control us

In fairness, it's missing the context of the running gag about Neil's dad being gay and also that they're drinking in that episode. Plus, Will is hammered and he generally doesn't act like that at all so the comedy of the outburst is lost if you don't really know the character.

Yeah, the American version is a cringefest. I watched an episode of it - they actually try too hard to copy all the scenes word-for-word. I imagine a lot of it is lost in translation. It just wasn't believable. It could maybe have worked if it took a completely different direction, like The Office did. Same name, two very different series.

'Ladhood' is a mini series that also encapsulates what it's like to be a teen in Britain. But starting from the ealry naughties. Recommended it if you like this.

@THE TWO FINGERED BRUTE: Yes but its made for the things we find funny, not what Americans find funny. Some American jokes in an american sitcom i wouldn't find funny whereas a yank would, they wouldn't have the same nostalgia, which the sweeteners is heavily based upon.

Fun fact. Mr Gilbert (Greg Davies) was an actual teacher for 13 years, teaching English and Drama. He said in an interview that he loved playing as Mr Gilbert, as he could say the things he really want to say to students as a teacher but couldn't.

The inbetweeners is a legend of a show, it just perfectly represents the utter stupidity of most brits school years/ teens. We all relate [well I’m sure most of us do.]. There was a US remake, but I don’t think it really worked. [maybe you would feel differently]

This show is so on point. When I was in school my group of friends were just like this and to this day were all good mates 30 years on and when we are together now it's exactly like then still ripping the shit out off each other

The part about snitching (grassing) where the teacher makes him say, "I tripped" is realistic. I went to school in England for 3 years and they take snitching super seriously. If you get a reputation as a snitch, you might as well switch schools, because you won't have any friends. And like in the clip, even the teachers don't respect a snitch. I really liked that about England, and couldn't believe how readily many Americans are to snitch, when I came back.

Ye grassing in a UK school is pretty much social suicide and I feel sorry for anyone being bullied because telling someone can often make it worse. Reminding the teacher about a homework they forgot about is a ticket to being unpopular for at least a day or two and like you say the teachers don’t appreciate it that much.

Honestly at a point I can’t even watch inbetweeners anymore cause I’ve seen it that many times. Yet still everytime I watch it I find a new bit funnier then the last time. That “just a friend from trials at West Ham that never happened” just reminded me of how many people in uk lie about trials at a club 😂 including myself.

The teacher is called Greg Davies, I highly recommend his show Man Down, especially the clip where he listens to his father's romantic story. Or the story he tells Ryan Gosling on the Graham Norton show.
