Here's what you should be investigating -- how many of those banned shops have funds stuck "temporarily" on hold. Two days ago my funds showed they were being deposited, now two days later they are back to being on hold. At what point is Etsy committing fraud by not releasing funds? I am beyond the 30 days for returns, I do not owe Etsy any fees, they have no reason to withhold my funds. And Etsy will not respond to help requests, they just close them out with no response. How much do all those funds of suspended shops add up to?

It's not ideal, but it's also not uncommon. Amazon, for example, pays out every two weeks.

So what if someone opens a shop, pays $15 then gets suspended? Thousands of people could pay $15 then Etsy suspends them all and makes a small fortune with no refunds? Ridiculous I wouldn't trust Etsy as far as I could throw them and I sell on Etsy. Any suspended shop should be given a good reason why or refunded $15 if they're suspended, that would be the right thing to do but it ain't never gonna happen! 😡

I think we can all agree that would be CRAZY. That being said, it seems that point of this is to avoid the random shut downs on the backend, so hopefully that's not something that becomes even close to common.

Agree. If Etsy wants to behave legitimately, if they suspend shops and deactivate listings THEY SHOULD REFUND PEOPLE. The fact that they are NOT, that shows Etsy's real priorities. Any chance they can to take your money and delete you so you can't do anything about it, they will Etsy is NOT trustworthy.

I have been a seller on Etsy for almost 10 years. Woke up a week ago to my shop being " currently supended". No e-mail to explain why...just a banner saying I'm suspended and for me to appeal. Have you tried to write an appeal letter and contact them via their live chat? They reinstated one of my client accounts yesterday and at the end they said it is just a system glitch even though it takes us a lot of time to retrieve the account back

I was one of the lucky ones who has been suspended. I submitted an appeal. Within 30 seconds, I had a reply that they would not reactivate my account. I thoroughly went through my account looking for any policy that i may have broken and found nothing wrong, so idk why i was suspended 🤬

the problem with the set up fee is that they shut you down and dont tell you why and keep the $15. If they would just refund it if they shut it down, it wouldn't feel like they just took it from you.

If they are really sincere they would do this for all shops, including those already in place. I would consider selling on ETSY if they would be more transparent about why they banded a shop and the amounts and time frames for withheld funds. The other thing is for them to get rid of the stores selling unlicensed copyright items and mass produced cheap imports.

I think the 15 is ok...if they fix the customer service issues. They shouldn't be able to blanket ban without client contact if we are paying to set up. You would think the 15.00 would be enough to add some live service agents.

The number of sales as a "its for real" marker is NOT good! My own shops took YEARS to make 100 sales in each one. If I hadn't been paid within a week at least, I would have been bankrupt PDQ. Not everyone sells 100's or 1000's of t-shirts or fishing garb...stuff a day (& some don't want to, either). Keep Etsy as a side hustle possibility, please.

I think the answer to this really lies somewhere in the middle. Traditionally, Etsy has paid out WAY faster than any other platform. What we were talking about in the video is the idea that you (after a certain period) would have the ability to unlock faster and faster payments beyond whatever their new default is.

I agree that it would be a problem to making the threshold for getting paid a number of sales. I now have two shops that I work on whenever I can grab a minute here or there. A certain amount of time such as 30 days after the first sale would make more sense. The article doesn't seem to actually specify the plan.

I was wondering as a person interested in doing POD in the near future, about the payments being delayed will it affect POD because I want to get into it and now with this payment delay, will I need to have extra money on hand to have to pay on behalf of the customer for there item to be made or when the payment is made it will only hold on to my share but still pay the POD provider.

People have a problem with the set up fee because they’re taking the set up fee THEN banning you and it’s non refundable so Etsy themselves are scamming people. If the banned you before taking the fee, no problem but they don’t. For anyone who is allowed to sell on the platform then I don’t think a small set up fee is too much to ask, I’m fine with it.

The verification stuff and the $15 registration fee doesn't bother me; I just hope we get better communication on their sell expectations as well as some kind of actual support when they do run into violations (that is, they give the seller a chance to correct these issues before banning people).

I opened about a month ago. I did the photo id. I did not have to pay the 15$ fee. I did see something about my shop may have my funds put in reserve or w/e it is, but I've gotten no confirmation on if that's the case. I will say I have no issues with the new process, however they should also on the fake stores that are still active, and these stores are beyond a doubt scammer accounts.

I disagree with you. There is no need for Etsy to demand a biometric photo, it can simply authenticate the boarding without this. As for the 15 dollars fees, some people are striving from paycheck to paycheck and the fact you don’t have a problem with it only shows you are disconnected from reality just because you make lots of money from KZfaq and your Etsy store as well as your Amazon store. Others don’t have your means of finances to allocate 15 dollars here and there. The thing is the biometric measures are being planned even for Twitter as part of demands made by the WEF. They will tie this to freedom of speech and if you don’t agree with them, you can and will be deplatformed and end up without a source of income and if you try to find a job, good luck

@@nuca777 what do you mean worse than that? You will have to pay a lot more before you see a return/profit. Going into a business without realizing that can put people in a lot of debt. No one is going to just invest 15 dollars and then instantly start to make a profit. You will need several hundreds to thousands of dollars as a buffer. So if 15 are too much than starting is not an option.

Although a new Etsy seller, I see the logic in these changes from a business POV. As one of THE most popular online marketplaces, Etsy has been a unique wild west of online selling platforms. While I get the distrust many/some have towards Etsy's motives, I see these changes all part of a larger roll-out of changes in response to the online shopping landscape. So with all changes of this kind, I imagine many of them are not etched in stone... but the overarching goal is the same... make Etsy a safer shopping/selling experience. It benefits no one if everyone sees their brand as a great place to get ripped off.

For someone that wants to start a POD shop this will be detrimental and let me explain why: 1) it will take some time for a shoo to make their first sale.. And let’s not be naïve here, if you’re going to hold payment to the shop how the shop is going to pay either Printify whoever they use to fulfill their order if Etsy is holding their funds. Not everyone has a credit card that’s the point of starting a POD shop. So you are going to hold back a lot of people who really need to open their shop because they’re either out of a job or something happened that I need a side Job to pay their bills. Not everyone has a credit card. I’m And not everyone is willing to give a debit card number because they are afraid that their funds can be frozen somehow. So if you don’t get your first sale in the first 30 days, how are you gonna prove Etsy that your account is real?

The question here would be how long and how will they hold the payment. From the way it reads, they just won't let you get paid as quickly (e.g. daily) until you reach a certain point. This isn't all that uncommon and Etsy is really the only platform that pays as quickly as they do.

This is the part that has put me off starting....we have to pay the POD for the goods when they have been purchased and if we don't get our payment from Etsy for who knows how long...we would be going into debt for an indefinite amount of time...this is unreasonable and not sustainable. Now, if Etsy had said they would withhold payment for 1 week, then we would know how long we would hold the debt before receiving payment...and during this time would have to hope the product/s are slow at selling!!...but not too slow obviously, cause we don't want to get banned either

I remember last year there was a big scandal with the payment reserve system, it seems etsy must have went into full scale panic mode and was using AI to decide which shops were to be put onto reserve payment. My wife has a shop that has been opened for years and suddenly they decided to put her on reserve after she got a large order. It was horrific because we really struggled to fulfill that order without the funds from the actual sale. I hope that this new system is more well thought out. And yes, new shops without exception should be put on the payment reserve until they have proven to have a good record of fulfilling orders and are proven to not be selling etsy illegal items.

Listing fees cost money even if you have no sales. Maybe make the $15 payment into a credit towards listing fees or ads.

I get the security, I really do. We all want to be safe online. Here's what would make it right....Wouldn't be nice if everyone that got booted by the recent "Ban Binge" for no reason, got an email asking them to re-apply to the new system once in place. I don’t have a problem with a fee, that’s not my issue with Etsy. However, if Etsy continues to demand fees, then bans the new shop from selling, sellers may take their business to another platform that is transparent regarding their rules, etc. Etsy receives hundreds, if not more, fees up front, then bans the account and does not either open the shop OR refund the $15 fee that’s definitely bad business. It’s not as if people are not hearing this news? This is making opening a Shopify account look pretty good right now. People could choose to skip the hassle and open a business on other platforms.

#3 is the dumbest thing ever. We already provided a background check and paid $15. Having that stigma for me to pay for a print on demand order and wait 30 days to get paid is just plain stupid. What if they ban me for no reason? I'm taking my business elsewhere besides Etsy. You can make all the excuses you want, but #3 will drive many legitimate businesses away from Etsy.

To be clear we used 30 days as an example. Etsy for quite a while has been the only platform like this which allows daily or weekly payments, especially for new sellers. The most common pay. Is somewhere between two weeks and a month when you look at other platforms

Oh how naive... If doing all the three things above would stop Etsy banning the account., and improve access to support. Then maybe, maybe. But I opened an account March 15. 1st time ever in this space. But guilty thing, while learning I tinter with things got more spams then ever notice only received them on data when I was in sales manager. On days I wasn't doing stuff. Never made a sale. Then March 28 for an suspended notice appeal, then within the 10 mins got the sorry not sorry email. It's cheaper to get a £5 Shopify starter account to learn on. Still don't know what I did. As I have read all the guidelines and watch KZfaq for lessons. So as a new seller I would avoid

Etsy doesn't say how they do or don't determine it, only that it applies to "some" new shops. To me it would be a bit silly to not just apply it to all new shops, with the possible exception of for people who already haven a proven track record.

Please help! My situation is a bit unique. I sell big ticket items in fashion or at least I consider it big enough, where a dress is about $1k to $3. Etsy has closed down my accounts and has started refunding clients who don't want to work anymore with me to complete their orders. So now I'm in debt to Etsy of over $3k and honestly have no way to pay them back this money as they just took my only source of income from me. I still have multiple orders I am trying to complete. What do I do if I can't pay them back this money. I think more clients might request a refund going forward which will put me more in debt. How does this get resolved? Any suggestions?

The $15 fee to sell on Etsy is insane! They already get plenty of fees! You already have to attach a bank account to start selling on Etsy. There’s no good reason to charge sellers. This just inspires people to move more towards places like TikTok shop.

If you think that there is any platform that lets you run a business for free than you are very naive. There is no free lunch. The easier the barrier to entry the more competition and the more scammers. Etsy has the lowest fees of all platforms. If you were a professional seller you would know that.

I currently have a shop on 3 platforms as a matter of fact. You’re obviously just here to be hateful, so have a great day better yet, have the day you deserve.

I needed a domain, a website, a business account, why would my store set up on ETSY be free. It's a good move, and cheap compared to everything else required.

$15, it actually costs money to verify somebody's identity the platform that is doing that has a charge that they have to pay also I imagine there's admin fees. $15 for one shop no refunds is a very reasonable amount to charge. If you get suspended due to your identity check then there may be something wrong with your identity as represented. I'm sure you could dispute it if you are legit but if you're not legit you just paid $15 to prove it. I don't think they should offer credits of any kind, to kind of like hold somebody's hand while they're opening a shop that could earn them thousands of dollars. It's ridiculous, people need to grow up.

Set up fee should be at least $150 not $15. After-all you’re starting a business which usually involve start up cost of hundreds or even thousands of dollars especially if you have to stock inventory

It's a matter of principle. They should have incontrovertible evidence before suspending someone's account. They should, also, refund the account holders affected, if they have no solid evidence against them. Let's say they suspended 100,000 accounts without any evidence against them. That is $1.5 million that they are keeping, illegally.

Warning to anyone opening a new shop, I paid the asking fee, the next day they suspended my shop, extremely poor customer service, no help at all and they refused to refund me!

@@folahtom4827 yes I appealed but still suspended, they refuse to tell me why and refuse to refund me I paid £11 to join plus listing fees
