Glad you have Brian to help. Back injuries happen, you're young and strong and you muscle that thing into place, you feel that pain, but you ignore it, because you're young and strong. Of course, the pain increases and you can't sleep at night. A warning to all you big strong guys reading this. Get to know your limits, and find help. There are people here on you tube who share your goals. Look up timber framing, that's how I found this channel. This sermon is over. Two peaveys are stronger than one.

Blame KZfaq/Google. If for some crazy reason one video is demonetized, then the whole work is for nothing. This turns into the well known parable of "putting all your eggs into one basket." If that is what Cody is thinking; I don't blame him.

I really like the saw mill videos. Takes me back to the day when I was working in a saw mill. I also envy you working in out-doors like you do. The clean air, the nice "cool" temps, the low humidity. I was raised in climate like that in Northern California, and now I really miss it living here on the Gulf Coast with all the moisture, hot temps ant all. Enjoy it while you can. I even miss the snow believe it or not!

Jonathan Allen Hi Jon. Several suggestions- I built one last year. 1) if using wood from N. America slice the quarter round off with a table or circular saw - planing takes forever 2) Bore out the mortises and then clean up with a chisel- chopping a mortise through 4" of wood is brutal 3) invest in an electric plane to true up the table top gluing faces 4) make sure you lower the "H" support top rail if you intend on installing an end vise. Good luck! I love my PMWB!

In No. Cal. my mom had a black oak drop that was 56" diameter at the trunk. In the end, after sitting for years waiting for it to be cut into lumber, a local firewood cutter came to whittle it up for firewood. I bought it back for the cost of approximate firewood volume. That was the biggest tree I was involved with cutting with a lucas mill. The mill even survived hitting a railroad spike embedded in the trunk. It turned out a lot of 4/4 and even some 4X4 stock.

I loved the last live chat, the wranglerstar community is awesome, it would be great to see Mrs W interact with everybody, i think just to chat with everybody about whats going on in your life would be a great enough subject. If you aim at leveling and centering to the heart (so it comes out in one board only), you will waste only the one board. This is instead of leveling to the tapered edge and the centre of the log. Sometimes I need to cut the horizontal second and I use wedges. The middle stay does not need to be used often (mainly slabbing). It can be tricky to remember to lower each time.
