Nice video. I have owned my 2004 545i since 2006 and 100K miles, done mostly all my own oil changes after warranty expired. Make sure you do NOT over torque the fill plug! I did because a mechanic must have over tightened and thus would leak if you torque at spec 25 nm. I ended up cracking the oil pan and had to replace cost about $400 to repaid at Indy shop. Nice suggestion to fill the filter with some oil before installing. Also change the oil around every 7K miles to protect the valve cover gaskets and other delicate German rubber including the Valve Stem Seals. about every N62 will need new valve stem seals around 100K miles - very expensive if done correctly. My Indy removed the heads to have the secondary exhaust ported at a machine shop, the really only right way to do it. Forget the short-cut method from the guy in San Diego. That is a hit and miss. If your secondary is clogged your car will not pass smog. The cost for this was about $6,000 fortunately my cats were not destroyed by the smoke from the bad valve stems because I took the car in right away. Replacing the cats with OEM would cost about $4,000 making the total around $10,000. Welcome to the world of the N62 engine. Quite possibly the worst engine BMW has ever made.

Ya it's not an engine for limp wrists, light wallets, or snow flakes that's for sure. But if you're somewhat handy, have a little money and some patience, it's very rewarding engine to learn.

Just a hint for an oil choice. These gasoline engines need and benefit from ACEA A3 specification oil, meaning full-saps engine oil. The one you put in yours is Dexos2 aproved, or low-saps oil. These are the oils based on ACEA C3 specification, made primarily for modern diesels with particulate filters. It is kind of compromise in term of engine protection. Maybe helps someone Cheers!

Thanks so much for this video. All the videos I found had the oil filter under the hood. My 2007 550i was like yours. Thanks again!

Nice job! Here's the torque conversion to US ft lbs 25 nm = 18.4 ft lbs. | 10 nm = 7.4 ft lbs.

Hello How does your engine run on 0W30 oil? Why are you using 0W? What are the reasons you are not using the 5W40? It is about the recommendations of the manufacturer BMW? Are there any other reasons?

The dip stick you pulled out to check the oil are you sure that was for the oil or the tranny fluid?

How would you get the drain bolt off if someone stripped it? When I went to change my oil today, it appears that whoever did the oil change last stripped that thing completely round, and I can't figure out the best way to get it off
