In this Episode:
This is our first EVER “off the grid” boondocking, dispersed camping adventure!!!
Friends, it’s November, yet the temperature feels like Summer! Sunny and 70 degrees! We travel to the Tuscarora State Forest, near Mount Union Pennsylvania. Our goal for this trip is a nice quiet weekend, and to hike the 1000 steps portion of the Standing Stone Trail.
We spent the evening by a nice campfire, and made chicken noodle soup for our dinner. The kids and dogs enjoy the creek and surrounding woods. An old CCC era fountain is a nearby site to explore.
I also talk a bit more about our two 100 amp hour lead acid batteries. We will discuss this more in our upcoming boon docking episodes.
Friends, welcome to our RV Camping channel. Ryan and Rachel here, we are weekend warriors with a mission to highlight RVing in the eastern United States. We are joined by our daughter Sarah, son William, and our two dogs (Trigger and Lilly). Home is in Pennsylvania, and while PA is our favorite State to explore, we’ve found there’s much more to explore! Our 2019 Wildwood X-Lite is towed behind our 2021 RAM 2500 BigHorn. We hope you will subscribe, join us on some of our adventures and be inspired to go on your own adventures.

Thanks for the mention. I love this site. And enjoy the channel. The first time we were there I did turn our RAM and Camper around that tree...it was...FUN. We were headed out the same way we came in...I thought it would be EASIER. The 2nd time we were headed to site 9 for 7 days after spending 7 days at 20. I just backed out of the site and headed east. So glad you guys made it and had a great time. I figured once your daughter saw that she had a humongous playground of nature...she would have a blast.

We were going out the same way we can in, so I thought going around the tree made sense. You’ll see a time lapse of that debacle in 2 weeks. Sarah did end up having a great time on this trip, as did we all! I plan to do some more state forest camping this spring for sure!

Tuscarora is on my list of spots to visit in the near future. I've been slowly getting my bus to the point where we can camp off grid for a week or longer.

That spot would be a great place to spend a week. The most we can stay anywhere is like 3 nights; unless we have a place to dump grey water, or deal with no showers.

Looks like an awesome place to camp to me, maybe even too quiet if you're not used to it?! How was the evening, and looking forward to 1000 steps.

I really enjoyed the quiet evening. It was also incredibly dark, no light pollution. It was cloudy though, so no stars. A little eerie at first, but I quickly got over it, and having the 2 dogs helps. 1K steps a good video, its about done.

Fantastic that you were able to take advantage of that nice weather in November. Just curious, but how does the price you pay compare with staying at a regular site in a state park in Pennsylvania? I'm guessing this is way cheaper. Looked nice how you had the whole camping area to yourselves!

PA state parks are like 32$ a night or so for an electric site in pet areas. They’re very strict when it comes to pets. I definitely like being out in the woods by ourselves, it’s a nice place to relax. Can’t beat 70 degree weather, it should be 70 all year long!

DCNR still lists dispersed camping as free. i'm not sure what you classify as boondocking, but if you are within walking distance of your car that is NOT dispersed camping and you'll need a permit. one night real dispersed camping is free in all state parks except excluded areas, such as natural preserves and distance from x restrictions. so basically if you are literally hiking, and want to primitive camp over 25ft from a trail in any state park it's free. again tho you cannot be near your car in any way or they consider that motorized roadside camping or something like that i forget exactly. it would seem to me that you are classifying actual designated camping sites without amenities as boondocking. again, idk that term per se, but dispersed camping is not at a designated site, even one without amenities. dispersed camping is wild camping and is still free

@@reginadrayton8374 the title of the video references dispersed camping locations. boondocking is not dispersed camping, and I never said it was. I said I'm not sure what he calls boondocking because I thought maybe he thought boondocking and dispersed camping were the same. If you're saying he is literally boondocking and thinks PA has screwed him via dispersed camping regulations then I totally disagree. The video's title makes it sound like dispersed camping either now is to be paid for or that somehow boondockers should be allowed to call what they do boondocking and therefor fall under the dispersed camping rule set. Imo boondockers should never be allowed to call what they are doing dispersed camping or claim they are dispersed camping as to fall under dispersed camping rules and regulations. Dispersed camping rules and regulations are for dispersed campers not ppl in damn cars. Anyways, good day. I hope my point is clear. If not the tl;dr is Pennsylvania has done nothing wrong and the fact that boondocking fell under dispersed camping should never have been the case

@@reginadrayton8374 it's 2024, if I wanted to know the term I'd have looked it up. Me knowing the term was irrelevant. What was relevant was what the creator of the video meant by it, which I addressed that vagueness in my original comment. So what you are seeing as a generous, selfless deed done by yourself; i see, in hindsight, as an unsolicited offering without context or purpose. Anyways, idk why my comment triggered you in the first place given all I did was clarify my point because I assumed you were making a point of your own . I didn't realize however your comment literally had no point so my bad for assuming. Also, idk why you felt compelled to offer me your mountain girl resume. Are you looking for Appalachian Hill People cred? If so it be more useful to know the number of cousins of which you have carnal knowledge. I'm pretty sure that's the metric they officially use down there in 'Deliverence' West Virginia. Also I wouldn't go around telling people where you are from since you live in a scuffed Virginia, not even the real Virginia; and yes, I'm super f'n intelligent 🤯🧠. FYI, you can edit your replies, there was no need to reply 2 times with different comments in under 24 hours. You could have just amended the first one I had not yet replied to instead of spamming a second. Just thought I'd help, since the interwebs are probably new tech where you live. Godspeed, Peggy Sue

Looking into doing the same type of thing with my Tacoma and rooftop tent. Do you have any information that you can tell a newbie that’s looking to go to the spot u went

My best advice is to get yourself a Purple Lizard map. 🦎 🗺️ With a Tacoma and RTT you have all of PA DCNR motorized sites at your disposal. This site is in Tuscarora State Forest, really easy to find, and access. Probably less easy to book though, especially for a weekend.

Whats a purple lizard map?
@mountainsintomemories
@mountainsintomemories 4 ай бұрын
@@LostBoysRecovery you’ll find them on purple lizard dot com | They’re a bit pricey, but extremely accurate, and will show you all of the interesting things to see in an area. I bought a few of the multi-packs to save a few bucks. For this area you’ll want Tuscarora, which I think you can bundle with rothrock and bald eagle. If you’re into overlanding, these are an incredible resource. We’re NOT affiliated with them in any way, just reporting on things we use that make our adventures more rewarding.

@@mountainsintomemories again, you are not fully correct. if you mean national forests that rule was done away with after a federal ruling. prior to the ruling the permit was only needed for vlogging on social media platforms it was never a permit for filming for personal use. if any state park has a similar rule i promise it pertains to vlogging, not filming. there is a distinction to be made
