Thanks to subscriber Janice Upton for this great video idea! Today, I talk about some of my oldest houseplants. I know that buying houseplants has become en vogue in the last few years, but for those of us who have loved houseplants for decades, this one is for you :). How old is your oldest houseplant?? Or, for those of you who have inherited old houseplants, what's the longest you've owned your plant?

Everyone seems to be giving away their schefflera plants. I get tons of messages saying, "my so-and-so just gifted me this plant... it's 30 years old and I don't know what to do" yada yada... well here's a video on how to take care of it!

Guys, if you have no clue what's wrong with your plant, consider watching this video. If these are things that do not occur to you, then throw the whole plant away, because you are not a good plant parent (jk ...sort of)

Thank you so much! I find it absolutely fascinating that you have plants so old that are still flourishing. My mother always loved houseplants so I grew up with them but never got into growing houseplants until the pandemic. Your channel is my favorite. This past year has been more tolerable being housebound because of my plants and learning more of how to be successful in taking care of them. As always, I enjoyed your video. Thanks again!

Thank you so much Janice!!! I totally understand, plants definitely have that affect on me too. Even before the panderosa, I loved being home with my plants and watching every single change/growth they made. Thanks again for the great video idea :)!!

ZZ plants are one of the best and a must-have for any plant parent. They have the two most important things I want in a plant (low maintenance and aesthetic look). It's amazing how yours is still thriving after so many years! 😁💚🌱

I have a tree philodendron that I bought in 1990. It was on the clearance rack, what I call the they tried to kill it rack. Was in a 6 inch pot. Now it has been divided twice into two 14 inch and one 10 inch pots. Just realized I have had this plant half of my life.

Philodendrons are so resilient! I forgot about a dead looking one I had in a window and months later it had grown so many variegated leaves 🥰🥰🥰

Hi Ruth!! Thanks so much! I would loe to show the outside, but unfortunately it would show my address and people are crazy out there LOL. I have been binge listening to the crime junkie podcast and it has made me even more of a shut in ...yikes!!

That's crazy that a scheflerra can get that big. However you spell it. Lol!

I never thought it would get that big! I wish I braided it when it was smaller and more pliable. I tried to do it with some of the cuttings, but it didn't quite work out :(

I take a wipe every now and then to wipe them. I don’t do it often enough though lol

I HATE Scheflerra and Dracena. I have both. They are huge. Take up a crap load of room and are ugly. They are my husbands he got in 2008. We have a small house and I can’t have any beautiful big plants (Monstera or Bird of Paradise) because of these horrible, ugly, huge plants. Hate them. I would throw them in the dump if I could. Edit: I do like snake plants . I know they recently relabeled those as dracena
