I'm glad that Rachel had a sister who loved her and kept diligent in finding out about her sister's disappearance. I always suspected that Rachel's estranged husband had murdered her because he didn't want to pay child support for his son. I wonder, too! It’s unusual, I believe, for Brief Case to omit those final details. Perhaps the surviving family wanted his name & personal life kept out of public record. Let’s say a prayer for them all in the hope that their lives went on well, somehow, in spite of the tragedies. 🌷🌸🕯 It was beautifully told-especially, the way Rachel’s disappearance was recounted by Dr. Simpson, after the recovery.

Thank you, Brief 💼 Case for bringing this story to our attention. Such a disgusting man, what he did to his ex-wife. And his son. It takes a special kind of sickness to hack up people you know so intimately, and I hope there is a special place in hell for these kind of people. She didn't deserve that. It reminds me of what happened to my nephew...his so called GF and 2 male friends...around 5 years ago...he was having a medical emergency and instead of taking him to the hospital or calling 911, they put him in their car and drove off with him in the front seat with sunglasses and a baseball cap on his head. They drove past 2 hospitals, and stopped at a gas station for gas after they strangled him to death from behind with car jumper wires. They then drove him some distance away into another county and dumped his body by railroad tracks where he was found 4 days later by a railroad worker. His face was ripped off and his head was nearly decapitated. They were only able to identify him by his tattoos. His son was a toddler and won't remember his father, will only ever see pictures of him. He was a beautiful person who didn't deserve to be betrayed like that and left like that. Nobody deserves that. I can sympathize with those who are murdered and mutilated. It is disgusting. If you have any decency in you, any humanity, you cannot do such a thing to someone whom you've known and loved. These people are monsters.

Back then it was enforced though. Nowadays (at least where I grew up) it isn't. My great grandad was dumped in a Nebraska orphanage at age 4. His sibling was 16 months old. Thier mom had died of TB while working as a nurse. I found out from newspaper clippings that the kids had originally gone into foster care because thier dad (more clippings) was abusive and beat his wife. In the last clipping I have, he had been arrested for failing to pay maintenance to the foster family but refused. He was also well known to law enforcement since he was a teen. The article indicated that he had told the judge that the reason he didn't pay was because he didn't feel that the house of (mentioned the name of the foster family) ABC, was not the right place tor his kids. If parents didn't pay child support, thier kids ended up in orphanages instead. Less than a year after the last arrest for refusing to pay, he had married again, and had 3 other kids after that. He basically dumped my great grandad and his younger sibling in the orphanage. Now dads can abandon thier kids and never see a penny of child support.

I remember hearing about the night St. Paul's nearly burned: a great documentary about it ("The Blitz: London's Longest Night") aired on PBS almost a generation ago. This tale of cold-blooded murder, however, adds a further, horrifying new wrinkle to the events of that time.

I have to take a moment to express my astonishment and admiration for everyone who worked on this case, during a war, no less. The victim could easily have been counted among the multitudes among the war dead, but observations made diligently by the examiner made the difference, and allowed the family some justice and a little peace during this turbulent time. I applaud them all. Thank you for your thorough reporting and illustrations. It always draws the listener in and gives us appreciation and emotion for the people involved.
