Reactions to the video footage of bringing my blasian fiancée to meet my Korean parents at their house unannounced. They did not welcome us into the house because my fiancee was black. I tried to negotiate another scheduled visit to introduce my fiancee, but it ended without a concrete plan.

The mom is just being a drama queen… they'll be fine later, especially when they'll have their first child. Sometimes it's more about communautarism, not really racism… many parents would like to see their kids with someone who has the "same background at all levels" to make sure they'll get along and to have children who look like "the group". Why? Because they Don't want their children and grandchildren to suffer from discrimination and live eventually a miserable life.
@Ssookawai

@@sntanaa I said "sometimes", I Always try to see the best in people… if she's really racist, I hope she'll change her mind because it involves her own son and in the near future, her grand children. I've heard many stories like this before and it usually ends well, most of them try to have a normal relatioship later for the sake of the grand kids. In other cases, many people let down their own happiness because of their ego, they want to be "right" and "strong willed" at all costs

Unfortunately I can never visit them because they told me point blank that their parents are not friendly to Blacks. It's very sad but true. Personally I find it very funny because if you're racist then it's better you stay in your home country. You don't come into a multicultural society and expect your kids to move with only people from their home country. I feel very bad for this lady because she's so beautiful and genuinely sweet. I just want to say that this happened to my family. We are white hispanic. My uncle was deeply inlove with a black woman. My grandmother treated my uncle the same. He didnt allow her in the house. Cussed at her racist things. Treated her so poorly. Hated her and convinced him to leave her or else she would never talk to him again. He did what she said. For 20 years he didnt date anyone. In one year he married and had a child with a woman. A hispanic woman that my grandmother chose for him. It was so odd cus we didnt see it coming. He didnt post pictures or invited anyone. We just got a knock at the door and he was with a baby and a wife acting like nothing ever happened. He did it to make her happy. (His mom) I went to go visit them and i stayed over a few nights. It was such a weird vibe. She was a sweet woman. But the vibe between them was like strangers. They didnt talk or gossip as a couple would. They never hugged kissed. They sat in different sides of the couch all the time. It was an unknown feeling because from what i was used to i saw my uncles and aunts cuddle or hug or talk to eachother all the time as friends. But they seemed like strangers and when i thought back i remembered that he wasnt like this with his black girlfriend he had years ago. I just want to say that when you try to make others happy it usually doesnt make you happy. In the end, realistically, when your parents leave, the one person that will stay by your side will be your wife and no one els. Till this day my uncle admits to letting go of something he really loved. Stay strong. For your own good.

Sometimes parents think they know what's best for us, they want the best for us..... But they have to be open to meeting the person that makes you happy and a better person. My heart just broke at the mom's reaction, you could tell dad was very calm and trying to keep the peace in this whole situation. I agree with your dad though, sometimes the more you push... the more resistance you're faced with. Just give it time guys, always do your best, live the best life you can, at the end of the day you know you guys have tried. Wish you nothing but the best, much love, happiness and good health!! Thanks for posting.

Majority of Asian people are very family oriented, that is part of our Culture. of course we can disregard our family if we want to but it is so hard it required alot of Sacrifices and acceptance that you might not be able to see or talk to your family again, the reason why it is hard is because Eversince we we're young we already built a very Strong Affection,connection ans trust towards our family. This is how we grew up.

Mom said she was sick and couldn't talk but she had a whole lot to say. Sometimes you have to continue your life journey without your parents.... this situation is so toxic. If your mother is like this she shouldn't have moved to multi-cultural country. I can't even imagine how your mother would react if your fiance was a dark skinned African woman.... my goodness.

She was sad but it also deesculates the situation. It's commonly seen in Asian culture and takes a bit of understanding. If you travel there and pay attention, it's interpreted in many ways, sometimes as a sign of RESPECT. When learning another language, alot can be lost in translation even if you're nearly proficient if you're not keen on body language and social cues. This is one of those instances. Please don't jump to conclusions and travel a bit out of your cultural comfort zone..... Even if it's by reading a book or two. 🤗

Yup!It'sCoop don't assume i don't know what it means. I said what i said. Respect goes both ways. Or maybe you think it should just be. Like i said don't ever hold your head down. Mom thinks if she tries to poor on the guilt she can have her way... my mom is the same and she is not korean... Some ppl just want to have their way.. no matter who happiness they have to trample to get it.... Sometimes you just have to come to grips that some people are not going to change... And that is when you have to change how you deal with them.. She wants her son to buckle under as if he was a child... and that is not reality...That is selfish... she want him to trade his happiness for her.. But I would not allow her anywhere near my child with that toxic negative behavior.... Because if she spoke like that around someones child..... most mothers, would not allow it....... And she would be picking her teeth up off the ground...

Actually, the issue is far more specific to anti-black. Asian culture values whiteness. Light skin = higher class wealthy, dark skin = working class. So when people evolved under those pretenses... and then see pale nordic people.. They're basically gods, better/wealthier than should be humanly possible and when they see actual black people.. they're basically worse that should be humanly possible.

His father needs to have a stern talk with his mother.. and tell her this is my son... This is the woman he loves and is going to marry.. Either be respectful of his wishes... or you can leave while I have them over to visit... And when my grandchild comes... if you cant be loving towards my sons family..... You can leave and stay gone while they visit with me... Because I am going to be a happy positive part of my sons life... She can get in line... or be gone for the happy moments..
