As the living embodiment of coolness itself, Brownells Gun Techs Keith and Caleb are the right guys to be at Rock Island Auction Company to show us a gun with a high Coolness Factor: the Egyptian Hakim service rifle. The semi-auto Hakim started life in Sweden as the AG-42 rifle (the Automatgevär m/42) designed for the Swedish army and manufactured 1942-45, before the tooling was sold to Egypt in the 1950s. Chambered in 8mm Mauser (aka 7.92x57mm Mauser), the Hakim served as Egypt's main battle rifle until it was supplanted by the Soviet / Russian AK-47. (The Hakim even had a "little brother" - a scaled down carbine version chambered in 7.62x39mm and called the Rashid.) Like the AG-42, the Hakim has a direct-impingement gas system, but the Egyptians added a gas flow adjuster because Egypt got its ammunition from many different sources and needed a rifle that would work with the "ammo du jour." A big part of the Hakim's high Coolness Factor is its unique, robustly engineered operating system. Keith does a little field strip to demonstrate it for us - and he explains how the Hakim can give you an ouchy far worse than Garand Thumb! The massive steel receiver should ensure excellent accuracy, but due to stock bedding problems, the Hakim's accuracy can be variable. The muzzle device does a good job of taming recoil but is painfully LOUD. Even so, the Hakim is a solid, well-built, reliable rifle.

I know this is a bit older post but I have had my Hakim for about ten years now and every time I take it out I am surprised by its accuracy, positive ejection (as in no one should be to the right of these things for 10 yds or so!), and the little feeling of the concussion you feel from the brake on the way home. It is unique to this gun. BUT it is reliable, accurate and hits HARD! Love my Hakim!! (No Hakim thumb-yet!)

I just brought mine into work today. It has one of the most viotlent ejection cycles ive ever seen on any shoulder fired gun. Love it, semi auto 8mm.

Interesting. I assumed my Ljungman was over gassed since it was sending brass into the next county. Maybe that's normal for these rifles?
@theshootingbench9116
@theshootingbench9116 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobshaw07 yes on full gas setting these types of guns send the brass forward about 12 to 15 yards from the shooter at the 1 to 230 position. The deflection bar creases my 8mm brass pretty good. Have to fire form them in my Mausers to "fix them".

you can adjust the gas system with a special key (found one for my hakim on Ebay) this will lessen the recoil a small amount it is actually ment for adjusting the weapon for diffrences in amunition loads

@@anthonyhelton3326 I have said key, an original and a repo. Even adjusted its not a pleasant action especially to the brass casings.

I bought one back in the 80's. The thing that I remember about shooting it was that you could feel the concussion move through you like a wave and it kicked the brass forward of the gun. I remember shooting at a telephone pole (I was young and irresponsible) wondering why I wasn't hitting it because I could see dirt kicking up on the other side. Then I was introduced to the ballistics of the rifle bullet. It was shooting straight through it. I wonder if that pole has fallen over yet?

Used to be some really good hot loads for from Egypt that supposed to be for the MG42. My Hakim was shining with them. Say goodbye to the steel and ceramic plates when the hot MG load with 198gr. FMJ steel core knocking . Just bought the same round in California yesterday, made in Ethiopia in 1947. I'm sure the "EQUITY" is just oozing out of it. 😉

Every time I hear the name Hakim, I immediately think of Prince Akeem from the movie 'Coming to America (1988)' starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. Stay classy my friends. EDITED for grammatical correction.

Great rifle. Anyone looking over your shoulder and catching the shock wave will only do it once. Wanted the Rashid until I found it lacked the muzzle features of the Hakim. Would have been like shooting a 22.

I bought one in the early 90's for like $190. Went out and shot it a couple times. Louder than hell, and was scared to get my fingers near the open bolt. Traded it off quick, for something else. Never thought I'd see one at a gun auction. Wished I kept it.

Love mine ,Took me a long time to find one Got luckey at my local gunshop one day the gunsmith had baught it at a gun show shot it and decided he did not like it it came with the origunal barrel (not mounted) and a fresh barrel from a armourers refurbish kit installed has respectable accuracy at 500 meters shooting from a rest.

I have the Ljungman AG/42 and I made up a gas plug that I can somewhat adjust. That stopped it sending 6.5 into the next zip code. Pity nobody made one, but I suppose they are rare - I didn't know the Hakim had one from day 1.

Miles on TFBTV did some videos on the Hakim and Rashid rifles that are more comprehensive than this. Also PPT did one as well. As far I gathered they were pieces of shit that had issues trying to load stripper clips into the box mag (only got one).

From what I've heard, this rifle is usually in great condition on the outside...but a complete mess on the inside because of the corrosive ammo they shot through them.
