Being Greek I was raised with the Mediterranean diet and never had problems with my weight. Although we rarely consumed fast food and red meat the amount of dairy and oil used in every meal was detrimental for my health. Since going WFPB 6 years ago I only lost 5 pounds but all my health markers are now on point. That is why everybody should try eating this way, even if weight is not an issue for them. Thank you so much for pointing out the importance of not consuming too much fat.

Wow! I have never heard anyone explain this so well. I have lived this myself. I went WFPB and lost 25 pounds of the stubborn weight that never seemed to come off no matter what I did. I even had the plateau in the middle of it. Once I took out more of the seeds and nuts, my weight just went down. I couldn’t even stop it! I became a super healthy weight that I have been able to maintain now for years. I even was able to add back in some of the healthy fats and don’t have to think much about what I eat. Everything is delicious! Everything you are saying is absolutely 100%

So true! Many people are so set on a “diet” consisting of rules and restrictions. It makes them want to make eating a WFPB diet way more complicated than it ever has to be. The concept of eating as much tasty, nutrient dense, calorie light foods as you want until you are full just doesn’t compute for them, sadly.

I love your message of keeping it simple. I very much resonate with this and it’s how I have continued eating this way for the past fourteen years. It is THE reason I can keep my family of four fed with healthy, whole plant foods. I just started making some videos of how I make super simple starch staples for our family, how to use the instapot etc. It can be so simple once your tastebuds adjust.

I’ve been Vegan for about 12 years. I’m Vegan for the animals. I was very overweight due to eating about twice the calories I should have. I simply got an app, calorie counted and walk 3 miles a day. Lost 50lbs and kept it off for years. When I gain a bit of weight, I just focus on my calorie goal again and weight comes down. My daily goal is 1200 calories. Your goal may be different. I’ve got control. It’s easy once you get on a routine. I still eat my veggies, my Vegan meats and some snacks. I just don’t overeat.

@@WellYourWorld Thanks!! Here it is as an example (from yesterday): Breakfast: 1 cup of oatmeal/shredded wheat mix with 2 tablspoons of goji berries and 4 walnuts and an apple. Lunch: huge salad (costco mixed spring greens and power greens) with 3-4 teaspoons of balsamic, half a baked sweet potato and another apple. Dinner: Two servings of soba noodles with no SOS added, only some sesame seeds sprinkled in with a teaspoon of miso paste mixed in (Dr Greger approved) and a bowl of strawberries. Usually I have no snacks and drink only water. Everything is SOS free except the miso which has salt. The background is that I lost 70 pounds from 300 lbs to 230lbs by fasting and eating SOS free, but I'm still teetering on obese and have been for at least two months with no more weight loss. I'm thinking about doing two salads per day instead of just one. Based on my height I need to get from my current weight (230) to between 170-200 to be considered healthy.
@poppyr4639
@poppyr4639 Жыл бұрын
@@user-kr4jl6en7r Goji berries (dried fruit) are very calorie dense, swap those out for fresh or frozen berries. And shredded wheat is a fairly processed/high calorie density food, try using all oats instead of the mix. And dinner - Dr. Greger has said when trying to lose weight to cut out all flour. Soba noodles are made from flour, so more calorie dense. Try using a base of brown rice or quinoa or potatoes, which have a very high satiety factor and low calorie density. And of course add veggies with the grains, and ideally some beans or lentils. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure I agree with the "salt makes food taste better" phrasing. Salt makes you have a stronger urge to eat it and to eat more of it but I'd like to think "tastes better" is a more sophisticated concept than just "makes us want to eat more".

@WellYourWorld

I don’t see a problem. We “deprive” ourselves all day long of hyper-rich food that most everyone would call delicious. The best thing we can do for our bodies is allow whole food to gradually taste better over time by removing the food everyone thinks tastes good. I’ll post a video about taste bud adaptation in the coming weeks.
@user-lr8id6tz8f
@user-lr8id6tz8f Жыл бұрын
That stood out to me as well. I've had people say things to me like "I'd rather be overweight than suffer with bland food" Of course we all know that there are tons of seasonings to help transition off of salt - many WYW faves - and over time you learn to like the taste of the whole foods versus to things you add to it. My husband is really stuck on the salt and I know having it around makes it a challenge to stop using it completely. I agree 100% that if the same bowl of food has salt on it, I tend to overeat it!
